It's a busy day in Gosselin-ville. Jon Gosselin is trying to slow down -- if not halt altogether -- his divorce from Kate Gosselin, telling In Touch Weekly exclusively: "I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated ... I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon." He's filed paperwork looking to stall the divorce for 90 days "to regain control over the future of our family." In other news, TLC has announced that 'Jon & Kate Plus Eight' will now be titled 'Kate Plus Eight,' and Jon's role will be minimized.
Gosselin's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, tells In Touch that his client "woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and didn't like the reflection." In turn, Gosselin filed paperwork hoping to stall his divorce from Kate for 90 days, telling In Touch it will "enable Kate and me to restore our relationship as cooperative parents and to open up our lines of communication. I hope that she will be as receptive and enthusiastic as I am to do what is best for our family."
"Even though we were heading for a divorce, it appeared that Kate had been suffering from this divorce as much as I had. That's why I asked my attorney to put the brakes on this divorce so I could try to regain control over the future of our family. So Kate and I could join on a cooperative course that would benefit our family -- not destroy it," Jon tells In Touch Weekly.
The news comes as TLC has announced that the reality show that shot them to fame and eventually contributed to their split is being renamed to 'Kate Plus Eight,' dropping the 'Jon &' part. Jon will still be on the show, only with lessening frequency.
The renamed "Kate Plus Eight," which begins Nov. 2, will continue to chronicle the lives of the Gosselin kids (5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins) but will also focus on Kate's role as a single mother.
"It's not a huge shift, but it's reflective of where the show was already going," said Eileen O'Neill, TLC's president and general manager.
"Jon's going to be involved in the show," she said, adding that he will be seen less often than before. TLC retains an exclusive arrangement with him, as well as the rest of the family, O'Neill said.
The couple made their separation official on a "Jon & Kate" episode that aired in June and was seen by 10.6 million viewers.
The rupture came after weeks of tabloid reports of marital strains and infidelities, which both spouses denied. On the show, the parental co-stars barely spoke to each other.
Since then, media coverage of the squabbling exes has continued full-bore, and both Jon and Kate have made separate he-said-she-said talk-show rounds. They are in divorce proceedings.
It's quite a change since the series clicked with viewers two years ago for its heartwarming look at the challenges of raising eight young children.
Going forward, O'Neill said, "We hope for the sake of the family that things are more manageable. I don't think anyone asked for that amount of attention."
She spoke hopefully of a bright future for the series and dismissed a report circulating Tuesday that Kate Gosselin had posted a tweet that this season might be the last: Kate doesn't have a Twitter account, O'Neill said.
Although the audience for recent "Jon & Kate" airings has dropped below two million viewers, the current season has averaged a robust 3.2 million (even omitting its two record-setting "event" episodes), which represents an increase of 300,000 viewers over last season.
Discussions are under way with Kate Gosselin for another series that might debut in 2010, O'Neill said.
"I think there's an opportunity for Kate beyond her role as a supermom to explore her other interests," O'Neill said.
Meanwhile, with reality-based programming that also includes "Little People, Big World," "What Not to Wear" and "LA Ink," the network is boasting a year of consecutive month-to-month audience gains.

I agree, any parent with any respect would count their blessings for the ride and give those children and us a break. Why are we we giving this any place in conversation.
I agree 100%. Why didn't the hype hit Kate when she was accused of having an affair with the bodyguard??? She is staying tio get what she has wanted all along, to get rid of Jon and have the show named after her alone.
O'Neill the TLC Prez and general manager says, "I don't think anyone asked for that amount of attention." Oh, you must be referring to the actual show and numerous interviews given to every freakin' rag and talk show. Is that the 'unexpected' attention you were referring to? Puh-leeze, these people are idiots.
I agree, this reality show has run its course and should be pulled. Kate will just have to find another job and deal just like the other single mothers out there. Re-titling the show with the single mother angle is not giving the real picture of the single mother's struggles. I bet other single mothers would love to live in a large home with swimming pool and have the means to buy anything on the grocery shelf.
Personally, I enjoy the show along with millions of others, and hope it continues. There are many single moms who could benefit from the show. Those little children are darling and I hope Kate will continue to share them with the viewers. How about cancelling football!
I personally love the show. I want to continue to see these children and how they grow up. I have always like how Kate is so organized. With 8 children some just throw anything on the table but she likes to cook organically. Keep up the good work Kate!!! I will say something about Jon, I agree that Kate did treat him like crap but if he did not have the balls to tell her to shut up and not put up with it SHAME ON HIM!!! He is out of control sleeping around and partying. He definitely is not putting his children first.
I can't believe you losers. You actually have an opinion on such garbage. It is obvious that if you are a fan of such a mindless TV program or you believe that these people give a s**t about what you think, well you are a loser.
The loser and idiot is YOU. You criticize and call those who watch a TV program and care as losers? The loser is you........and I wish I knew how to find people like you. Then you will see who the loser actually is.....Moron!
His 15 minutes of fame should be over! I'm sure I'd be considered a witch too - had I given birth to eight childred, cared for them, developed a career, inspired thousands of other women and had to be a mommy to my husband and father of the 8 all because his ego was too fragile to deal with my accomplishments. Jon will probably hook up with Octo-Mom for another 15 minute free ride.
Jon has pretty much been a laughing stock since this divorce started. Jon seems like the kind of guy that you have to spell out everything that needs to be done, and he still drops the ball. He acts inept, Kate steps in and takes over, then he can complain how she's treating him. Passive aggressive.
O'Neill is not stupid, she clearly understands the demographic and playing to women...Give me a break, she has not concern so much as her viewer audience...This is a change to save her and this show...however trivial it is...
You know what? Why does everyone think they know the real truth and goings on of this couple? I say bravo if they really can reconcile for their children and themselves!
I totally agree!!! If they can reconcile and both of them learned a little something about themselves and now appreciate what they had...then I'm ALL FOR IT!!! Those kids need BOTH of their parents TOGETHER as a family. Lessons learned!
It usually takes two to end a marriage. kate seemed abusive and like she thought she was a bove Jon. Jon's solution to that - running to other women wasnt very mature or considersate of his family. I think the best anyone can hope is that this break gives them time to mend their relationship enough to be good parents to their kids. Aside from that - they need to move on loiving their own lives. Kate has always seemed to be the business brain in the marriage - and looks like she still is. Jon is scared he just missed his big chance for continued income. Pretty funny actually.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

I wish they would both just go away. Kate with her martyr syndrome and Jon being a man-whore. i am so tired of them!

Clearly you feel the same way or you wouldn't have taken the time and posted. Loser.
It takes one to know one - clearly your post is a typical case of "the pot calling the kettle black".

Looks like someone is afraid his 15 minutes of fame is running out. What a loser! She is not much better.

Agreed - poor sap
Jon had a good job in the computer business.
I don't know what happened to that, but I am sure Kate had something to do with it.
Jon is not stupid, Kate just made him look that way.
Still waters run deep. Just because he wasn't a big mouth like her, does not mean he is stupid.
He does not need her money. He is college educated and will bounce back.
