Ritchie Still Loves 'Retarded' Madonna

It's fair to say Guy Ritchie is not completely over Madonna. The 'Snatch' director opens up about his ex-wife in the November issue of Esquire magazine, admitting he still loves the mother of his son while also calling her something not-so-nice.

"I still love her," he says in the interview. "But she's retarded, too."

Ritchie voiced his frustration over the demise of their 8-year marriage, which was finalized (with a financial settlement) last December. They have a 9-year-old son, Rocco. He talks about getting bad advice from people following the split.

"You can't tell someone when they're getting divorced that their pain is an illusion," he says. "I'm f---ing telling you, I feel it, I've been through that. You have, too. No one can say you don't feel that."

But the director, whose latest is this year's 'Sherlock Holmes,' had some strongly positive things to say about Madonna and her work ethic.

"She's a manifester, if there ever was one," he says. "First-rate manifester. Madonna makes things happen. Put Madonna up against any twenty-three-year-old, she'll outwork them, out-dance them, outperform them. The woman is broad."

You're confusing people--Guy Ritchie only has one biological child, Rocco, with Madonna, and David, who was adopted (and a stepdaughter, Lourdes, if you want to get technical). The "Nicole" you refer to is the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie. Different people altogether.

And, as someone who has a mentally retarded brother, I don't find it offensive when people use the word "retard" to refer to someone they think does stupid things. Is it right--no, but not everyone is offended by that term. I think it helps when people retain a sense of humor about things, even some of life's hardships. Life is too politically correct at times. We can't take everything so seriously...

As for saying she is retarded... I think he could have used a better suited word... if one is really retarded then how does one become so successful?! I think he is being honest about still loving her, I think he is that kind of guy... has nothing to hide. Wished it had really worked out for them... but eight years is eight years and no matter who you are and no matter who you are married to, with fame or without fame... marriage is hard.

Oh for Pete's sake! He didn't call her a "retard." He said she was "retarded," a word which means "backward in mental or physcial development," according to the Oxford Dictionary. Perhaps Mr. Ritchie has a better grasp of the English language than most of the readers here. If his comment had been "I love her, but she's backward in her mental development" perhaps that would have been alright with you ingnoramuses?
