Travolta Blackmail Trial Turns Into 'A Few Good Men'

The extortion trial surrounding the death of
John Travolta's son turned into a reading of 'A Few Good Men' on Tuesday after the actor's lawyer channeled
Jack Nicholson to bring the court to laughter. The moment occurred when defense attorney Murrio Ducille accused Travolta's attorney Michael McDermott of entrapment.
"I suggest, Mr. McDermott, that you sought to give birth to an extortion plot but it was stillborn," Ducille said at Bahamas Supreme Court.
"And I suggest that you can't handle the truth," McDermott volleyed back.
According to the
New York Daily News, the courtroom "burst out in gasps and laughter as Judge Anita Allen called for order."
Travolta has testified twice in the case against Tarino Lightbourne, a medic who threatened to sell stories to the media suggesting the actor was at fault in the death of his 16-year-old son, Jett. A second defendant, Pleasant Bridgewater, a former Bahamas senator, allegedly negotiated with the actor's lawyers for the medic. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.
The trial began Sept. 21 and is expected to last several weeks.

This is such a travesty. Travolta is the one who wouldn't give his poor child the life saving seizure medications that he so desperately needed. Instead he allowed him to suffer grand mal seizures UNMEDICATED every four days. After Jett died the attorney for the family stated he had GM seizures every four days.
With all of the travoltas weath and fame Jett could have/should have been treated in the finest medical facility. If one med doesn't work, there are many others and combinations to save lives. My dear friend's daughter is well controlled with two meds from grand mal seizures but travoltas would not medicate him and he died because of it.
Now, who should be on trial here?????

My goodness, No one knew you were in the house all that time to see all that was done. Why haven't you given a statement to the police about all you saw and knew?
Unless you have a child that is medically needy be really careful on your judgments. It is easy to sit back and say what you would do. I have a child w/a terminal illness & have to make these decisions constantly. They are heartbreaking. I doubt John did anything to intentionally harm his son.
That stupid religion. Scientology my ass.
Lisa,
You are so wrong in your comments. I lost my daughter due to 30 grand mal seizures- while on 4 combinations of anti-convulsants. She went to the neurologist regularly and her meds were changed frequently, but yet they could not be controlled ultimately. Only speak about the things which you know as the pain of losing a child is the worst imaginable. You have no idea what meds this young man was on no more than I do.
Lisa, I would suggest that John Travolta has been on trial with himself since the day his son passed away. There is most likely not a day that goes by that this man has not chastised himself over and over again for any little thing he could have done differently. I am sure that he has owned more than his part over and over again. As for the people that tried to extort money from him, they absolutely should be on trial. It is against the law and they should be held accountable if, in fact, they are guilty. Even if they are found guilty and are sentenced, the Travolta's still do not win. They will have to deal with this loss for the rest of their days. My heart goes out to them.

I suffer from seizures, they started when I was around 20 . I went six years without meds. When it comes to seizure meds. ,they can be just has bad has the seizure it self, the side effects are terrible and some of them can make your seizures worse, I finally had to go on meds, but I suffer from side effects everyday.
Has a parent I can see why they tried to treat their son without meds, really I can.
Besides all the side effects you have to have blood test every three months to check your liver.
From what I read this poor child died from hitting his head not the seizure. I may be wrong. Even taking seizure meds you can still have seizures.
God bless this family

Added to the knowledge that parents have the right to ultimately decide what they believe is the right medicine for their children, I do agree with your statements. And when it comes down to it, the family will live with the decision for the rest of their lives. As for your condition, I can only imagine how you suffer. And I do feel for you and everyone who suffers from this condition. I'll pray for you really hard and hope for an ease in your pain.
Your words are so true. People do not understand all the side effects of the only medications that can assist in moderating - not curing - seizures. They can be just as dangerous and interfering as a seizure.
well kelly, at least your still here to talk about it bad meds and all

Just like Kelly I to name Kelly also have seizure. Just one day while on the phone it just happened.
I was put on seizure Meds.and blood thinners.
they worked for a minute but tehn teh side effects came like some of my vision would be blocked imagine looking out your eye and only seeing the sides of the view but not the entire picture.
I went off the Meds and went natural meds. not as good but they wrk to help me function with daily life like being able to see. My liver is in great shape. So we dont know the entire story on this boy Medical issues and it is not for us to judge that is for God and God alone to do. What if you lost your child on a judgement call that went bad would you want to world looking at you and say you did this to your child..I know I wouldnt
Rex, your right on the money. nobody wants to take
responsibilities for their actions. kelly and coco
are like everybody else trying to make excuses for the travoltas. they made a decision that probably cost his son his life. if you want to feel bad for someone feel bad for the child that died way to early beacause his parents made a decision
based on their religion

Too true!
And HEY, KELLY! I'm on meds that I will have to be on for the rest of MY life-yes there are side effects, and I'll be willing to bet they're more serious than any you think you have!
AND, I must have blood tests MONTHLY, instead of every 3 months....and it's all worth it!!! If not, I wouldn't be here to listen to twaddle like yours!
You learn to deal with these things, they are all part of life, especially if you're NOT one of the fortunate people who spend the vast majority of their lifes healthy! But I do consider myself fortunate, because there is only one alternative to staying with my meds regimen...I prefer the meds!
to Karen Anne - for being a person who has to take meds every day - you should know that everyone is different when it comes to responding to medication. Just because meds work for you, doesn't mean they work for everyone. You sound rude and condesending, how do you know how sick Kelly is?? is being an a$$ a side effect of YOUR meds???
if your going to make these life and death decisions based on your religious beliefs
you have to be held partially responsible for their death. the travoltas were at least morally responsible for their sons death

If you had the choice between taking seizures medications or dying by convulsions from Grand Mal Seizures alone in a bathtub, which would you chose? It's a no brainer and even tho the meds have side effects, it's a lot better than the misery of that kind of death.
He was having one seizure every four days. Unmedicated. The wrong individuals are on trial. But, money talks and speaks volumes and in this case, a vulnerable boy died a miserable death and no one is held accountable.

While I really enjoy John Travolta as an actor, I'm curious as to the double standards here. Earlier today I read an article about parents who will be going to jail because they attempted to treat their 11 y.o. diabetic daughter with prayer instead of medical treatment. Ultimately, she died and they're paying for it. If the Travolta's are guilty of essentially the same thing, will we ever see them on trial for it?

Zathros you are so right!! Even with all of the Travoltas' money and fame, they are just as guilty of reckless homicide as Dale and Leilani Neumann, but they will never go to trial because people feel like they know them and that they only did what they think was right for their son!!
