Cops: Woman Scorched Travolta Evidence When Scandal 'Was About to Explode'

A Bahamas police officer testified Thursday that a woman on trial for allegedly trying to blackmail John Travolta acknowledged burning a document at the center of the case. Pleasant Bridgewater, one of two defendants in the alleged plot to demand $25 million from the movie star, told police the day she was arrested that she destroyed the form with Travolta's signature "after she noticed the situation was about to explode," Detective Deborah Thompson said.

The document was related to the treatment of Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, who suffered a seizure at a family vacation home on Grand Bahama island. It would have released the ambulance driver of liability had the youth been flown to the U.S. for treatment, as Travolta initially wanted.

Jett instead was taken to a hospital where he died on Jan. 2.

Travolta has testified that the ambulance driver, Tarino Lightbourne, threatened to sell the media stories suggesting he was at fault in his son's death.

Bridgewater, who is accused of negotiating on Lightbourne's behalf, is a lawyer who resigned from the Bahamas senate following her arrest on Jan. 22. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to extortion.

Thompson testified she was searching Bridgewater's law office when the defendant said she would not find the document. Bridgewater said she had burned it and flushed it down the toilet at her house. Police then went to the house and police took a candle as evidence, Thompson said.

Thompson was among the final prosecution witnesses at the trial that began Sept. 21.

Defense lawyers plan to call four witnesses including a doctor from the resort community who first treated Jett and a paramedic who accompanied Lightbourne to the house.

scientology out the ones who came up with a name for his disase because they dont reconize, most disase i live in clearwater florida or scientology florida. they dont recognize disaese and they took a lady insulin away from her and she had to escape to get insulin and save her own life.nothing but a cult and they killed one lady and got away with it!so how can they call themselves scientology when they dont belive in sceince nope down here we call them satanology because of the cruel and inhuman treatment they put there people through.and after john lost his son he hasnt said much to scientology and i hope he walk away from the crooks because thats all they our.

well sara you have said nothing, so you must like to throw people down when there not looking or at a disadvantage well all i have to say your generation of robots because you dont know how to think for yourself and gives a dam about my spelling and punctuation i not writing a novel or for a english class and i am doing the best i can with the meds i am on. but you dont want to hear that because thats not what your about is it. you and joel would get along just fine as long as you had a webster dictionary between you let me tell you somthing i was always litle for my age and i step in and took the beating meant for someelse because they were smaller than me. i have so many scars on my body that my own brother is embarassed to take me out to eat with the rest of the family. and my soul has even more scars then my body and i am from florida so very rarely do you where long pants its always shorts and i dont care what people say about my scared legs they need to be seen and not hidden for all those that who glorify war and have no scars on there legs or soul. they dont have to fight the demons of war in there sleep when i wake up i find everything on my bed is off the bed except the sheet and somtimes i wake up on the floor no one will sleep with me and i can understand that, i am sorry i am getting real tired i aplogixe for my rant but people dont have any remorse or consideration of people and nothing angers me more then people who dont realize the hurt and anger that there words create, i fight the war everynight i have been sober for a long time anmd it takes an elephant pill to knock me out,my last surgery i was talking to the doctor in the operating room and he said why our you awake they had given me three shots and nobdy is suppose to be awake but i was and then they gave me somthing else i i gave up, so iam sorry and forgive me for my rage i dont like bullies in any shape or form because all they want to do is hurt people goodbye
