Rapper T.I. didn't need to attend the BET Hip-Hop Awards to win two trophies on Saturday. The rapper, who is locked up in an Arkansas penitentiary on a federal weapons conviction, won the best collaboration award with Rhianna for the song 'Live Your Life' and the album of the year award for 'Paper Trail.' His fiancee Tameka "Tiny" Cottle accepted his awards at the ceremony. She read a letter by the rapper, who began serving a yearlong sentence in late May. "My road to redemption is almost over. ... Thanks for the support," Cottle quoted the rapper as writing.
Jay-Z was honored as the 'MVP of the Year,' while Drake took home 'Rookie of the Year,' and Ice Cube received the "I Am Hip-Hop" icon award. Ice Cube said he was humbled by the award, and he believes his career as filmmaker could earn him more honors in the future. He helped launch the gangsta rap genre with the group NWA, and he starred in "Barbershop" and "Friday," which he also co-wrote.
"When you get recognized by your peers for a life of work, you got to be humbled," the rap veteran said. "I'm honored by this. I have 20 more years of work left in me. I hope (BET) is ready to give out two of these awards."
Rapper Busta Rhymes presented the award for "DJ of the Year" to DJ AM, the celebrity spinner who died of an accidental drug overdose in August.
Kanye West, meanwhile, couldn't hijack the stage, because the rapper was a no-show. West had been expected to attend the fourth annual awards show. He fell under scrutiny for interrupting Taylor Swift's award-winning moment at last month's MTV Video Music Awards. Jay-Z took the stage with Young Jeezy to perform "Real as It Gets" and rap group Goodie Mob performed its 1995 song "Cell Therapy." The award show will air on Oct. 27.

Personally i'm gettin pretty sick of these low life idiots winning awards that better people should be winning.... yes, he may have talent but you shouldn't give the world to a criminal. no matter how much talent they possess.
Hollywood is just as bad in their rewarding of the undeserving...
talent is no replacement for common human decency. if these actors, actresses and musicians can't control themselves then they have no place in the public world.
people should boycott their products when they do these stupid things and quit rewarding these thugs.
the world will only get better when people wake up and make it that way.

Way to go BET. Giving awards to felons, great example for children.

OH and let us not forget, BET has allowed another thug to air his reality show.....MICHAEL VICK. Disgusting, vile human being. All people of color should be so proud of BET.
i'd say it's so very typical, but that would be way over-stating the obvious.

You are a pathetic idiot. What have you done to make a million dollars? Your writing shows you have no skills or abilities to spell the words you try and criticize others with. It would seem like you would learn to spell the words correctly so your insults could be taken seriously. You pitiful idiot, BET is owned by white people. Your blame game should be directed at them. What do you want say now, if you can not spell the words at least learn to use the spell check, if you can read well enough.
Congrats to TI! I can't wait until he is free. He is a good guy, and is serving his time for the mistakes he has made. It's very easy to criticize him, but he is not the person the media portrays him to be. He is not even the person he portrays himself to be. Before you speak, walk a mile in the other man's shoes. Maybe then you opinion would be valid.

hey dejeve the only reson that he's in prison is because his friend got murdered by some dumbasses and he was trying to protect himself, now if u watch any of the tv shows about it then u would know about wat really happend.

Yeah, because we all know that television tells the 100% truth on everything, right?
are you for real?!?!? he got busted because he tried to buy SILENCERS....and there's only one reason to buy those.
killing people.
killing people quietly.
any normal person would have gone away for DECADES, not months. the guy paid his way to a lesser sentence and got off easy because he has money and fame.
why give the idiots of the world fame and money? why not at least give it to the good people who aren't going around trying to buy silencers to KILL people?
oh yeah, it's because there are idiots like you willing to defend his lame a.ss and buy his crappy music....
i hope T.I. 'gets butt raped by a large inmate'

C'mon people. Although I don't advocate criminalitiy, I see NO reason why T.I. shouldn't have recieved those awards. He was recognized by those of us who support/like rap (myself included), who enjoy his work. His personal indescretions have nothing to do with why he won, or what he contributes to hip-hop.
He's made some foolish decisions, as we all do at one point or another. That doesn't mean he should be ignored, completely. He raps. Evidently, he raps well! Accrediting that to him does NOT say you agree with what he does otherwise.
Give credit, when credit is due. Period.
Haters....

i ask you then at what point do you stop listening to his music?
would it be alright for him to rape children? would you still buy his music? would you still be judging the man on his music and not his actions?
what crimes are worth boycotting for in your mind?
i would hope people would not want to encourage and promote murderers or wannnabe murderers, but if you don't mind the blood on their hands so be it.

and why can't take it? he's worth it because they are giving it because of his music. Listen to "Dead and gone" if you're so all prejudice. Awards do not go for "being good",for example,Taylor Swift. He's worth it and I am glad that BET don't mind your blah blah.

I'm happy T.I. won the award he's a talented musician who deserves it.

Well, "dejeve". It's quite obvious just how out of touch you are.......through that so-called quote you most likely made up yourself.
The issue isn't based at which we should "stop listening to his music". It's whether or not he deserves those awards for it. Stay focused.
The awards were based on not only his many hit re ords, but an album he recorded, long before his conviction. People like you, act as though he won BECAUSE of his criminalities. When in fact he simply won because he (obviously) makes good music to many (myself included)! B.E.T. is a music entertainment network. Not a rehabilitation network/centre. He won, based on his musical talents. Therefore, everything else IS irrelevant. So, "stick to the script.".
Do you strip the trophy from someone who wins at a pie eating contest, because has a prior felony conviction? I thought not. And if you would, you're an idiotic simpleton.
You're clearly a hater, who hates for reasons misguided.

I don't find it wrong that he received these awards, I mean, he earned them, right?? what I have a problem with is, a lot of the rap community still has ties with drugs and gangs - why is that? Why wouldn't they try to rise above that type of lifestyle and make their lives and their family's lives better?? I know money isn't everything, but it gives you opportunities to better yourself, to educate yourself - why wouldn't T.I. want that?? and it's not just T.I. either (lil wayne and young jeezy come to mind)...do they stay involved with drugs/gangs so that they have something to write about?? and please don't come back and say it's some sort of pride issue...that is complete b.s.
