Polanski Depressed in Jail, Lawyer Says

Two weeks after being arrested in Switzerland to face extradition to the United States, Roman Polanksi is languishing behind bars.

"I found him to be tired and depressed," his lawyer, Herve Temime, told a Sontag newspaper, Reuters reports.

"Roman Polanski, who is 76, seemed very dejected when I visited him," Temime explained to another paper.

"Polanski was in an unsettled state of mind," his lawyer added.

Polanksi had fled America in 1977, after pleading guilty to charges he raped a 13-year-old girl. The Oscar-winning director left the States because he feared a judge would reject a the plea bargain he had made and send him to prison for 50 years.

Officials in Switzerland are holding Polanksi in jail, believing him to be a flight risk. But Temime claimed they should decide "very soon" on whether to grant him bail.

"He would fulfill all the conditions and stay in Switzerland until the extradition proceeding are decided," Temime said.

There is VERY little chance of him actually serving jail time in the United States, so you can stop drooling at the prospect. First of all, the case is over 30 years old and the only witness has repeatedly refused to testify and just wants it dropped. Now factor in the millions of dollars he can afford on lawyers, and you have a case that is going nowhere.

Let's see...rape a child, check. Plead guilty, check. Flee the country, check. Live it up overseas for a couple of decades or so, check. Get caught and await extradition without bail as a possible "flight risk" (you think?), check. Become depressed over possible and well deserved outcome of all of the above,CHECK. Or should we say, check mate. He needs jail.

Unfortunately, there are MANY of these "pretend people" from Hollywood who want to see him released. It's a sign of the times......no self respect for anyone, including themselves. And, Debra Winger..........shocked me with her little rant on the news last week about Polanski. These people all deserve jail time.....think of all the misfits there have been in Hollywood over the last few decades. They really are dilusional when it comes to what is right and wrong......for them!! Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, etc.....all these so called " pop princesses"........think they are above the law, with their driving, after drinking, etc. Too bad Cali doesn't break off during the next quake and just ease out into the Pacific...let them live their lives on an island!!

Unless they give a description of the jail conditions and show you a photo, you can assume that Polanski is in a cell that is better than your living room and kitchen. I'll bet he has catered meals brought to him from the outside. No jail food. And his day is spent pretty much like one of his normal quiet days. He just can't go party at night. Now, what is happening is that when he gets to the US and is sentenced, the sentence will include this time served. And he will be not allowed back in to the US, which is fine with him. So, Polanski will go free after the sentence, return to Europe and continue on as-is. He will not be put in an American jail. Switzerland is the best place for jail time for the privileged.
