Carrie Underwood To Host Holiday Variety Show

Country superstar Carrie Underwood will be returning to Fox this December, but not to the show that made her famous. She will be hosting a holiday variety show tentatively called 'Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special,' Billboard reports.

In a throwback to the 70's, the fourth-season 'American Idol' winner will perform songs and comedy sketches with the help of celebrity guests. So far Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley and David Cook have all been signed to appear on the two-hour special.

A few networks have attempted to revive the variety show format that was so popular a few decades ago. NBC tried with 'Rosie Live' and Fox with 'Osbournes: Reloaded.' Both shows were canceled after the first episode aired. More promising is a new CBS variety show in the works with John Mayer signed on to host.

Carrie Underwood has become the most sucessful 'Idol' star, with four Grammy Awards and sales of more than 10 million records already under her belt. Her holiday special will air December 7 on Fox.
