Poor Jessica Simpson. Even cartoon characters are criticizing her body.
The singer-actress' weight is the subject of an animated commercial that aired during FOX NFL Sunday on Oct. 11.
Both FOX and sponsor Burger King have released statements apologizing for the harsh ribbing.
A rep for FOX tells Usmagazine.com, "Burger King Corp. did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp. approved it before it aired. Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended."
Burger King adds: "Burger King Corp. has a long-standing relationship with FOX Sports, as well as an extensive media partnership with the network. The specific content for this sketch involving Jessica Simpson was not developed or aired by BKC or any of its agencies."
The "poor attempt at humor" was a cartoon of the Dallas Cowboys that showed some of the players making fun of Simpson's figure.
"Man I still can't believe Tony dated Jessica Simpson, even AFTER she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!" the animated Marion Barber said in the sketch, in reference to his teammate and Jessica's ex Tony Romo. (Adams is an offensive tackle for Dallas.)
"Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!" Jason Whitten's cartoon added.
Then Romo comes in. 'Guys, I'm standing right here."
"Sorry Tony," coach Wade Phillips said. "Say Tony, is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!"
Actress/singer Jessica Simpson attends the 16th Annual QVC Presents FFANY Shoes On Sale event at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center on October 13, 2009 in New York City.
um thats disscusting she is a beitiful person so who cares y do ppl care so much id understand leave her alone jessica ur beitiful and awsome dont listen to them
Avi, I think you're a good person, but I have to say I feel sorry for you ! Please learn to spell before you post a comment, ok ?! P.S. I agree with you about Jessica.
Hey Delilah, did you even consider that English may not be avi's first language? Cut him some slack, biotch. Re: the commercial, I thought the best part was when the Wade Phillips character said "Nah, I won't be here all season anyway!" How true is that?
Boycott Burger King. It's commercials have been offensive for sometime. Remember paris hilton..Burger King can NOT blame anyone except themselves for such tasteless, crass commercials.
You must be quite superficial to swoon over just yet another pretty face with highly questionable talent ... All she has is her looks ... You live by the sword, you die by the sword ...In addition, You have absolutely no idea what she is like as a person anyway ... Blind idolatry ... oh well ...
Tina, if you're going to talk about boycotting someone, make sure you get your story straight. Paris Hilton did not make a commercial for Burger King; it was for Carl's Jr. This is the first BK commercial I've had a problem with. It is boorish and I find it surprising that someone "higher up" was stupid enough to okay it. Carl's Jr. likes to portray its customer base (young males) as empty-headed gluttonous pigs. Why they continue to give them their money is beyond me.
Avi: These people people have Attention Deficit Disorder, and can't stay on the subject of Fox repulsive promo!!
This is typical of the knuckle dragger mentality. I don't recall anyone asking if they thought Jessica Simpson's weight had anything to do with the fact that ROMO IS A CRAPPY QUARTERBACK!!
so because she is not some disgusting toothpick of a person that blows away with the wind, that makes her fat to people? no wonder so many young girls are annorexic, you weigh a normal average weight for your height and Hollywood says your fat. I also believe i read somewhere that Tony was the one encouraging her curves... what a stupid ridiculous commercial... they should be ashamed of themselves.
I agree! What has the world come to? No wonder so many people have eating disorders. All this pressure to be anorexic thin. Even my 9 year old grand daughter and 14 year old grand son are concerned about their weight. They are healthy, they are normal. They have been taught to eat healthy foods. They should not have this type of pressure.
My first thought when I read Avi's post is, English is NOT his first language. If you look at his name, it is RATHER OBVIOUS. Also, although English IS my first language, I speak two others and expect I would make mistakes if I posted in forums that were listed in French or Italian where I hope people would be more forgiving. I would apologize up front for the mistakes, which would be grammatical, but I think this person's language may not even be with out alphabet and he wrote strictly phonetical, i.e. how the words SOUND, vs. how they should be written. This is not uncommon when people are learning to SIMPLY SPEAK a language, rather than read/write. Ignorance is not bliss. Stop and think a little next time.
That said, the commercial is DISGUSTING. They should make it right with Jessica before the lawsuit comes - and it will, if they don't get it right with her. She is beautiful, has a lovely figure and it is hateful that they could categorize her as someone the size of a defensive tackle! She's a normal, healthy, perfect example of what a gorgeous woman should look like. Yesterday there was a disgusting article about the guy who creates CHANEL clothing & how he will only work with Anorexic looking women - not "round" women. Everyone commented on what HE said - he was an ass.
Also, using her past relationship with Romo (AGREE with whomever said he IS NOT A GREAT QB, not in true Dallas tradition) is WAY OUT OF BOUNDS! That was personal between Tony & Jessica! To put that in a commercial - crosses every line of bad taste, personal privacy and boundaries that exist. Romo should be outraged and making apologies NOW as well. It's simply beyond outrageous. And I repeat, whomever is responsible for this DISGRACEFUL DISPLAY better make it right with Jessica Simpson fast because there will be defamation consequences coming towards them, rightfully so, from her lawyers and I hope they rip these people apart. And I WANT TO HEAR FROM ROMO, or else not only will I feel weak about him about as a QB, but as a MAN. It's an outrage.
As for Jessica's talent: I saw her live, and the girl can SING! She's just not recording the right material to showcase her voice. I don't think her "father/manager" is doing a good job in her career and if someone else was managing her, she'd be sounding fabulous. Believe me, she brought down the HOUSE with her vocals when I saw her live - girl has mad skills. She's just either not being produced right, not getting the right music, whatever, I blame it on her father. She did a duet with Marc Anthony that NO ONE heard called "There You Were" I suggest you download it. It's amazing. Also, "Angels" which showcases her amazing voice so well, it'll make you believe she has REAL talent. It's ASHLEE who has no talent. Jessica does. What jinxed her, besides her father? Divorcing Nick Lachey and losing her MTV show. She was on top of the world then. If the marriage was bad, then leave. But the show made them both BIG!
Anyway, Jessica, sorry this happened to you but in the end, you'll get your revenge on this Commercial DISS. They'll come crawling to you, on their dirty little knees! SHAME SHAME SHAME.
I've always believed white women to be under extreme pressure when it comes to being skinny. It's as though white males have this really distorted forms white women are suppose to strive for....big boobs small waist, small hips, big lips etc. Women are meant to be curvy and big boobs isn't natural for stick thin women. This issue is similar if not more intense than Black women's hair. I honestly wonder if white men feel threaten by women that are not stick thin.
Burger King sponsored this spot? This is really offensive to me and I am a man. Some nerve. I am not a JS fan at all but this low swipe at a beautiful woman for no reason at all is really tacky and classless. I really don't understand it are we so stupid that we have to resort to such base humor? This makes the Three Stooges look sophisticated. Someone, somewhere should be fired.
Agreed. This was beyond tasteless. It was cruel. Jessica is a beautiful woman. I could safely bet that the animators who put this together were the high school guys that wore star trek uniforms on the weekend. They have no social skills and feel uncomfortable around women. A gentleman would never take a cheap shot at a lady. The idea that this would be funny, and clever, is comedy that is appealing to 12 year old boys.

I agree fully. This is the same NFL that allows a dog killer to play for them, but ridicules a person who has never harmed anyone.
