NFL Ad Takes Aim at Simpson's Weight

Poor Jessica Simpson. Even cartoon characters are criticizing her body.

The singer-actress' weight is the subject of an animated commercial that aired during FOX NFL Sunday on Oct. 11.

Both FOX and sponsor Burger King have released statements apologizing for the harsh ribbing.

A rep for FOX tells Usmagazine.com, "Burger King Corp. did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp. approved it before it aired. Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended."

Burger King adds: "Burger King Corp. has a long-standing relationship with FOX Sports, as well as an extensive media partnership with the network. The specific content for this sketch involving Jessica Simpson was not developed or aired by BKC or any of its agencies."

The "poor attempt at humor" was a cartoon of the Dallas Cowboys that showed some of the players making fun of Simpson's figure.

"Man I still can't believe Tony dated Jessica Simpson, even AFTER she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!" the animated Marion Barber said in the sketch, in reference to his teammate and Jessica's ex Tony Romo. (Adams is an offensive tackle for Dallas.)

"Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!" Jason Whitten's cartoon added.

Then Romo comes in. 'Guys, I'm standing right here."

"Sorry Tony," coach Wade Phillips said. "Say Tony, is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!"

Jessica Simpson is a very beautiful girl. I can not understand how she could like Romo. In any event, the commercial is tasteless and hurtful. If their goal was to try to make this beautiful young lady feel bad then they may have succeeded. I certainly hope not.

I concur with your comment and would like to include this: No wonder so many women have issues with their self image . Not everyone can be stick figures and beautiful to everyone but something like this hurts so many more than just Jessica. If they can make fun of someone as pretty as she is, what does that do to someone that has issues with their self image?

They should be ashamed of themselves but obviously they are too shallow and cruel to care that what they find to be funny is just hurtful. Shame on them!!!

Disgusting ad! Burger King should be ashamed and those 'athletes' who participated likewise should be disgusted with themselves.
as for Tony Romo - you are the worst of the lot of them for even thinking about doing this trash.
NO! I am no t a J.S. fan by any means - but if after the much publicized romance(s) - Romo - treats his x's like this - ladies beward - the man has no

Tacky, classless, cruel and mean are just a few words that come to mind. Jessica Simpson has never been fat. No wonder so many young girls have body issues. When someone as beautiful as JS is mocked on national TV, as being fat what kind of a message does that send? My next email will be to Fox for allowing that commercial. Shame on them!!!!

I am not a JS fan and, actually, don't care for the woman. However, I think this is pretty tasteless. And what a double standard! I've heard many overweight men criticizing women for their size, looks, and weight. What - a woman's not worthy if she's less than perfect (whatever that means)? Actually, that speaks volumes about the person who is doing the criticizing - they can only feel better about themselves when they are putting others down. So sad.

Well said. They took the commercial down (apparently it infringed 20th Century Fox's copyright!?!?!? Nice face saver. But I thoroughly agree with you.

I have never been a Jessica Simpson fan but NO ONE deserves to be mocked in that way, particularly with the participation of someone who she loved and trusted and who used to act as if he loved her.
Even at her heaviest, Simpson is hardly obese. The same is true of Khloe Kardashian. Anorexia and other eating disorders are real and they're deadly. Do we really want to further emphasize the message that girls and young women get bombarded with that, unless you are built like a swizzle stick, you are fat, ugly, and no cool guy will date you other unless he either lost a bet or wants to make fun of you with his buddies.

What's ironic though is what will happen to many of these players when their appetites are just as big but they don't have traniners, and coaches, and lots of exercise. What goes around comes around, guys.

Ironic that Burger King would make such a disgusting attempt at making fun of "fat" people, when their products are so healthy! I guarantee a regular diet of THEIR products will give you more than the natural curves that Jessica Simpson has. Way to encourage people NOT to eat there! I think Jessica's a great role model for young girls and women to realize that you don't have to be stick-thin to be beautiful. Unbelievable and completely classless.

I think it's "Comedy Gold" especially because i'm an a Redskins Fan and i hate the Cowboys and also because Jessica is a short full figured white woman just like Kelly Clarkson and us black men love that Tony Slowmo (haha i just made a funny) just couldn't handle it all but commentor "Ray" your right on one thing she won't have a hard time getting another man but you didn't add will continue to have a hard time keeping one if she keeps dating only inside her race and doucebags as well.
