NFL Ad Takes Aim at Simpson's Weight

Poor Jessica Simpson. Even cartoon characters are criticizing her body.

The singer-actress' weight is the subject of an animated commercial that aired during FOX NFL Sunday on Oct. 11.

Both FOX and sponsor Burger King have released statements apologizing for the harsh ribbing.

A rep for FOX tells Usmagazine.com, "Burger King Corp. did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp. approved it before it aired. Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended."

Burger King adds: "Burger King Corp. has a long-standing relationship with FOX Sports, as well as an extensive media partnership with the network. The specific content for this sketch involving Jessica Simpson was not developed or aired by BKC or any of its agencies."

The "poor attempt at humor" was a cartoon of the Dallas Cowboys that showed some of the players making fun of Simpson's figure.

"Man I still can't believe Tony dated Jessica Simpson, even AFTER she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!" the animated Marion Barber said in the sketch, in reference to his teammate and Jessica's ex Tony Romo. (Adams is an offensive tackle for Dallas.)

"Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!" Jason Whitten's cartoon added.

Then Romo comes in. 'Guys, I'm standing right here."

"Sorry Tony," coach Wade Phillips said. "Say Tony, is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!"

Even beyond the fact that it's pure middle school to gossip about someone's girlfriend's weight (especially when it's such a complete exaggeration), the whole thing was just not funny at all. It barely was coherent, much less entertaining. I would hate to have my name anywhere near this ad for that reason alone.

Wow! How old are these people? Not just the football players, but all the people involved in writing and OK-ing this crap and putting it on air. Sound like a bunch of jr high a**holes to me. Why would adults create and air this BS?
FOX, THE COWBOYS AND BK can all go to hell as far as I am concerned. They have all hit a new low with this stunt.

This would devastate anyone, even a person who (on the outside) appears to have it "all together". Sometimes the one person who seems to be on top of the world is the one who is hurting the most. I would not call myself a fan of JS, but I do know she must be hurt by crap like this. Anyone would be, no matter what they have going on in their life. This is as pathetic and childish as it gets. Hope she is able to quickly put it out of her mind and realize she is so much better than the idiots that put it on air (FOX, COWBOYS AND BK SHOULD BE ASHAMED). Very unprofessional and immature.

Its Tony's weight that people should be making fun about. . .Yea Jessica's a bit fat for her height, but Tony is a fat pig. . .America seems to have low standards and a distorted image when it comes to weight. When an athlete is fat, its seen as "muscle" or big boned. . .The majority of American baseball players are so gross with female looking thighs and hips, but nobody talks about it...Yet when a singer/actor is a bit fat its such a "big deal". . No wonder Americans are obese, they have it all backwards!

If you think Romo and the Cowboys actually had something to do with this commercial then obviuosly when they passed out brains you people were taking a dump. The truth of the matter is we don't know why Tony & Jessica broke up(who the F cares anyway, lol) but it ain't are business either. One thing i do know is that for a guy that makes multi-millions to stop and help an elderly couple with their broke-down car(i might add late at night after a game in whuch he got injured in)Romo sounds like a decent sort to me. You people never met the guy and most likely if you were on TV for 2 minutes yourselves you'd be the laughing stock of the Country....

I've always believed white women to be under extreme pressure when it comes to being skinny. It's as though white males have this really distorted forms white women are suppose to strive for....big boobs small waist, small hips, big lips etc. Women are meant to be curvy and big boobs isn't natural for stick thin women. This issue is similar if not more intense than Black women's hair. I honestly wonder if white men feel threaten by women that are not stick thin.
