'Jeopardy!' Contestant Violates Rules, Appears Twice

When contestant
Jeff Kirby appeared on '
Jeopardy!' this week, loyal fans poured out to reveal he was cast twice, violating the rules of the game show. He first appeared on 'Jeopardy!' show in 1999, and under the rules, contestants are not permitted to appear again without an invitation. Yet on Monday, Kirby was back on the air. Although he finished third, the show took back his $1,000 consolation prize.
Oddly enough, last month Kirby gave an interview to the
Santa Maria Times about his experience as a contestant and acted as though it had been a new experience.
"I had the joy of having makeup put on for the first time. I'm red-complected, so I got a lot of makeup to try to tone that down," he told the newspaper.
Watch his most recent appearance on the show:
According to
The NY Post, the show failed to notice that he had competed on air before, but fans spotted the repeat appearance and notified the producers.
"'Jeopardy!' has a system to make sure that people who appear on the show have not previously done so," the producers said in a statement. "It has worked well for 26 seasons; however, clearly, that system failed to detect that Mr. Kirby had appeared on the show in 1999."
The NY Post reached out to Kirby, who declined to comment.

Too bad people couldn't spot serial killers..serial rapist or child molesters but I'll be darn if they don't catch a 2nd appearance on Jeopardy by someone that we really don't give a sh*t about!

Wow....just imagine the person/people who noticed this and freaking out...getting on the phone to the studios...."OH MY GOD....OH MY GOD...!!! HE WAS ON THERE 10 YEARS AGO!!! THAT'S AGAINST JEOPARDY RULES!!!!!"....their faces purple with rage that he was an "uninvited" return player......it's comical how ridiculous people can be.

I wonder if Ken Jennings is going to do the same thing as this guy did.

Many are calling those who watch Jeopardy losers. I'm a big fan of that program, one of the most intelligent games on TV. Congrats to the people who detected the mistake. That's keen observation and intelligent reporting. To the rest who use foul language, incorrect grammar and spelling, and determine everyone else's intelligence with elemental words like moron and idiot, learn something and watch the show.

So you're telling me that my 3rd grade teacher, who was on "Jeopardy" when Art Fleming was hosting cannot compete today? I'm surprised they keep records that long.

they should have let him keep the consolation prize. it was their mistake... shoulda realized... then again.. why reward sneaky behavior, i guess... though how sneaky could it really have been, being he didn't wear a disguise or change his name or any thing.. their mistake, their loss...

OK, I want to know who remembers seeing this guy on Jeopardy 10 years ago?? Apparently there were enough people out there who remembered since they were able to get the attention of the producers...Wish I had a memory like those people. Maybe then I'd be able to be on Jeopardy too!

Wow. What I want to know is how people were able to recognize him from 10 years ago! OMG. With all the new different contestants appearing every day 5 days a week, you think you wouldn't remember who was there last month, let alone 10 years ago! Those are some serious Jeopardy fans lol

WHY DOES IT TAKE "LOYAL FANS" TO RECOGNIZE A PREVIOUS CONTESTANT? ISN'T THAT A PART OF THE H.R.DEPT TO KNOW WHOSE BEEN ON BEFORE? THEY SCREWED UP NOT THIS GUY, FOR GIVING IT ANOTHER TRY.
