Oliver Stone was paid $75K to speak at a conference about the future of the Internet -- the only problem is, he's not a big fan.
While on stage, the famed director bashed the Web repeatedly, Guanabee reports.
"Certainly at the beginning of this thing, the internet was an enemy. It was just a disaster for people like me who are classically trained in film school," Stone said. Watch It Happen
"Now, possibly, and I won't be around, the synthesis will come, maybe the screens will become bigger and it won't be so cold and my eyes won't go crazy," he continued.
"You cannot have your neighbor come over and jump in the pool and have a party and call that a movie. Some kids come over and one of them strangles the other and they call that a f------ movie. It's a joke. It's jerking off in front of the camera and that's what most people are doing and I'm sick of it," Stone eloquently added.
Platoon and Wallstreet were excellent movies. Natural Born Killers was creepy and surreal. Wallstreet 2 is in the making.Stone is unusual and subversive but also a genius when it comes to film-making, As far as people actually enjoying the ridiculous content on the net, ya there are alot of losers and morons and sad, lonely people with nothing better to do, but why encourage or celebrate them? The fact that porn is, was and always will be the #1 most viewed, downloaded and sought after conten speaks volumes about society today.
maybe he should get rid of his computer hs so bothered by the net we all all selling our computers cause he dont like the net bbboooooooooo hhooooooooooooooooooooooooo heres a quater call someone who cares HE WENT TO FILM SCHOOLL NEVER KNOW IT MOVIES ARE QUITE BAD WAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAAA
The digital age has been savaged and is now eating itself. It has ruined music, and film, and given birth to reality show-offs who are now being touted as "stars". OF WHAT? These shows are voyeuristic nonsense, and music is just as bad. Nobody from Madonna on down can do anything without the "controversy" being added simply for the titulation of a mostly male, mostly gay audience. I'm sick of the digital age, and yearn for the days when a buffer like an a&r man-however flawed his judgment was, was the go between. Not everything should be offered up as art to the public, however easy it might be.
Have faith, Mr. Stone. I think the Internet, like all human gizmos, is a self-correcting thing. We're in the very early stages right now, believe it or not. The cream (of talent, of effort, of human endeavor in general) will rise to the top as always, once the novelty has worn off. I think of the Internet as being just another "peasant skirt." Remember those? When peasant skirts -- full, long, granny-type garments that flattered no one -- became popular back in the '70s, at first the few brave women who wore them looked horrendous. They all looked wide and matronly. But as more and more women picked up the fad, the "normal" hierarchy was re-established: skinny women looked skinny, fat women looked fat, etc., even in those dumpy skirts. The bar just gets set in a new place, that's all.
The digital age has been savaged and is now eating itself. I'll opt for no second helping of hack reality nonsense, hack films, hack music etc. It's a boon for those out there who think the world is their oyster, and don't deserve to distract those of us who are still interested in talented people. It disgusts me to see people like Madonna, Lady Ga Ga etc. titulating a mostly vulnerable impressionable young audience with a bombasity of lame image with no substance. Gone are the a&r days, when however flawed they might have been, they were still a buffer between the artist and the audience. Now it's our job to root out the avalanche of cliche, to get to the real artists buried under it.
Stone is absolutely right! The internet is a pile of trash. The so-called news stories are fiction at its political worst. Most of the ISPs serve as propaganda mills for various political fronts. I hope the whole system fails.
Sure there is a lot of bad video thats the bad side the good side is the tools to make and distribute something good are now available to everyone.
The good stuff will rise to the top. What Stone doent like really, is that very soon Spielburg, himself, and the whole dictorial closed shop of Hollywood wont have lock step control of whats being distributed.
Get with it newspapers and 35 mm film are near dead. Movie theater are going to go digital, spending millions of dollars for just prints is finally a huge waste. While you can lament the demise the days of the big budget hey days of the studios you had better embrace the changes of the day, or your going to the Old Directors home saying, "I member the days of the Silents when they knew how to make film." IF he was smart he' shoot his next film on a Red camera and big a big deal of haveing the first big opening and pay per view showing on the net with live feed back and interviews of the stars ,crew and shorts of makeing the film etc. While I love going to a big screen Im not paying 12 dollars a ticket 10 dollars for popcorn and a coke when I can stay at home and watch a 30 plasma screen with my own surround and use up the money Im spending on high speed net.I might go for the next Star Wars, Close Encounters, Lawrence of Arabia but I am sure not going to watch little better than made for TV movies which has been the fare drowning the theaters of late. I really think it might be great if movie theaters turned back to a combination of Film and Vaudville now that would be fun.
Although I do not like Oliver Stone, I do agree with him that the internet is a sesspool of filth. That also goes for most of television. TV executives must believe that the American public is a bunch of idiots. I only watch PBS and that only occasionally. Even PBS has a political agenda that I find annoying.
Thats ok. I hate Oliver Stone 'cause he makes crappy movies. Obviously he was asleep in film school because I sleep thru his movies. They're so boring.

Oh, the guy who invented the 'docu-drama' doesn't like it when people make up things? Come on, Oliver. Why don't you admit that you're really D.B Cooper - we've got the evidence.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

I totally agree with you Scott...I think Ollie should buy himself a one-way ticket to Venezuela..
Yep, pretty clear why he hates it. The internet is the bane of historical revisionists.

You're right.
really domcoff camara stalkers provocate cause problems, don't care if some of these idiots
would have guns i'd be in bad shape.
A gay man tried beat up at a regular party I
wasn't even talking to him.
I'm not, what would I have to say to him. I think they filmed it. I just stood there.
I Said "What are you doing" he just kept hitting me. I walked away.
you think what they call movies is bad. you should see what they do when they do when not tring to make themselfs look good.
Using childern to harrass adults is stupid.
I don't even see them with there childern unless
there tring to harrass me knowing I won't respond because the childern are around.
I don't want to recomend wasting you time but I've heard and seen chat stalkers there the worst.
