'Risky Business' Star Calls Tom Cruise 'Biggest Bore on the Face of the Earth'
Bronson Pinchot is most famous for his portrayal of goofy foreigner Balki Bartokomous on '
Perfect Strangers,' but the actor made his film debut in 'Risky Business.' In a candid interview with
The A.V. Club, Pinchot admits the experience gave him a less-than-favorable impression of co-star
Tom Cruise. In fact, Pinchot says, the superstar was "was the biggest bore on the face of the Earth" at the age of 20.
He explains: "Tom had picked up this knack of calling everyone by their character names ... I think that acting is acting, and the rest of the time, you should be you, but he called us all by our character names."
"He made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, 'You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?' ... There was no basis for it. It was like, "It's a nice day, I'm glad there are no gay people standing here." Very, very strange. Years and years later when people started to torment him with that, I used to think 'God, that's really fitting, because he tormented a lot of people as a 20-year-old.'"
Pinchot adds, "If someone's 20 years old and every third line out of their mouth is anti-something specific, then draw your own conclusion."
The actor has a similarly damning opinion of
Denzel Washington, calling him "one of the most unpleasant human beings I've ever met in my life," but he calls one actor "the antidote": Tom Hanks. The two met when Pinchot performed in a play with Hanks' wife Rita Wilson, and he still considers Hanks "a wonderful and genuine and lovely and down-to-earth person ... so it's not really true that big stars need to be driven and repulsive, because he's anything but."
Cruise's publicist, Cheryl Maisel, responds to Pinchot's accusations in a statement printed by
TV Guide. "Obviously this is so far removed from who Tom Cruise is as a person, this must have been said in jest," Maisel writes.

There is only one Tom Cruise film where Tom doesn't portray Tom Cruise, and that's Interview with the Vampire. That is the only film where he went the extra mile to prove himself (because bats*it crazy Anne didn't want him in it in the first place). Most of his films suck *ss.

Well, I think I'd like to express my opnion by quoting one of my favorite TV programs: "Mom!, Tom Cruise is in the closet and won't come out!" LOL

Sounds like Carl wishes he could crawl up Tom's ass - that is, if he's not already there.

Ever noticed that if a guy is succesful and good looking other men always say their gay. Sounds like this guy had a crush on Tom and was upset that Tom didn't swing that way. Real men don't gossip about other men.

Tom was, at that time, trying to figure out his own sexuality, and probably a lot of people thought he was gay. To counteract this, he just made stupid, ignorant jokes and comments....smacks of immaturity. I am convinced he had gay relations, period. But said in jest, that's no excuse, even if you're 20.

Tom Cruise is ugly! He's always been boring, I can't stand to watch him, and choose regularly not to.

Even though this is the sort of stuff I HATE to see as "news", I pretty much believe every single word this man says. Let's face it, Tom Cruise has NEVER gone out of his way to be kind, generous, caring or considerate of people. As far as the world can see he does everything within his power to bring attention to himself and what HE thinks is important. I think his character in Top Gun is probably pretty darn close to the real thing, Tom Cruise loves himself far more than anybody else does. And this stupid Scientology thing, all he does is make a fool out of himself with that. I wonder if his daughter had a life-threatening illness if he would still believe in all that phooey? From what I've heard before there are people in Hollywood very few like and I think he's one of them, oh they'll suck up to him, he's pretty powerful now, but as a person, they can't stand him. He and Paris Hilton both win for the obnoxious award.

Bronson please 20 years ago, you wait 20 years to bring up some old lame ass conversations. Please just shut the hell up. What do You need that you would slam him for something he said in his youth, grant it 20 years old is very young. Honestly I saw you on that reality show I dont think you know what honest is. Please why don't you and everyone else just do you and not worry about someone else's bedroom antics. We only have to answer for ourselves when that judgement day coes.

Rain Man was an awesome movie.

Tom Cruise is a latent homosexual who hides behind religion and women to cover it up. He also is the worlds worst actor behind Keanu Reeves.

I like Tom Cruise, regardless what anyone including this interview with a person who is much less than an "A" Lister, has to say. Sorry, but we all change alot over 20 years and we ALL do silly things. No one has the right to throw stones and I thing Tom has done well in life and is a good actor. That's the key word here, actor. I think he's like everyone else - just wants a family to love him and work to do and be happy. People are so cruel. Someday, you'll eat your words.

Tom who? And as far as Denzel, that man has a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas. I don't find it hard to believe he is "unpleasant" when he comes off on talk shows as having zero personality! The only time he shows any personality is when he is discussing racial issues and then I see a man with hate in his soul! I think he is a danger to society! Just my opinion!

Sorry,Sandy, but you are the one with a chip on her shoulder. Years ago, my husband worked with Mr. Washington on a film. He was a pleasure to work with and courteous to both cast and crew. I'll take my husband's word over that of some bitter, has been any day!
So Tom cruise hides the fact that he's gay himself by making comments about gay people? This is very old and tired and has been done by people for years. Most people in the know, know that Cruise is gay and his Scientology cult keeps him in tow, just like they do with Travolta or they'll out him. He's a mediocre actor and a huge closet case. As with gay politicians who vote against gays are outed, this guy needs to be outed in a big way.
