Why They're About to Pop: Since breaking into the Los Angeles music scene in 2004, After Midnight Project have toured relentlessly, signed with Universal Motown and recorded their major label debut album, 'Let's Build Something to Break' with producer John Feldmann (Atreyu, the Used). The band -- vocalist Jason Evigan, guitarist Spencer Bastian, drummer Danny Morris, bassist TJ Armstrong and guitarist Christian Meadows -- have worked hard to build and stay close to their fan base, even encouraging them to be a part of the filming of their first music video. Still, some devotees can't help but pull crazy stunts to get closer to them on the road. "How about the time a fan hid out in our shower on the bus for hours just to meet us? A little creepy!" Six Questions With After Midnight Project's Jason Evigan:
How did the band get together, and how did you decide on the band's name?
Well, After Midnight Project started in my home studio with just me, a few guitars, a piano and my Pro Tools rig. I titled my hard drive 'The After Midnight Project' because I would start recording at midnight every night. When I wanted to find band members, I put an add on Craigslist and found Danny. What bands have influenced your sound, and who are some current artists you're into?
What is your favorite song off of 'Let's Build Something to Break,' and why?
It changes every week, but right now it's 'The Criminal.' I'm loving it because when I listen with headphones, I still find new things that I forgot I recorded. We recorded [with a] female choir, bazooki, strings, accordions -- all sorts of percussion on that one. That song really embodies what AMP is about. You just shot your first music video. What was the experience like?
It was kind of surreal for me, especially, 'cause I came up with the concept. So seeing it come to life was kinda crazy and really cool. It was a really fun day. Got to hang with fans and friends all day and just make art. Since you have a phone number that you encourage fans to call, what's been the funniest fan call you've gotten?
Well, somebody gave our number after a car accident, so we got these angry calls for weeks straight from a pissed off lady going into detail about this accident. Maybe it wasn't funny, but it sure was entertaining. After being on tour for a while, what's the craziest thing that's happened on the road?
