Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty to Gun Charges, Will Serve 1-Year Jail Sentence

Massively popular rapper Lil' Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession on Thursday, a surprise move that will land the Grammy-winning star in jail for a year, the AP reports. He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3½ years in prison. But with the plea, he agreed to a reduced sentence.

He will officially be sentenced in February.

Police pulled over Wayne's tour bus in Columbus Circle (near NYC's Central Park) on July 22, 2007. They said they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke wafting out the door before the bus left a concert venue minutes earlier. Police said that as an officer approached, the rapper (real name Wayne Carter) tossed away a Louis Vuitton bag containing a gun.

Prosecutors said trace amounts of DNA found on the loaded gun connected it to Wayne. His defense lawyer said the gun wasn't his, and that there were flaws in the way the evidence was tested.

The defense also disputed the whole premise used by officers to search the bus (pot smoke).

According to the AP, Wayne acted politely in court when acknowledging that he had a .40 caliber semi-automatic gun on the bus.

Lil' Wayne's troubles with the law don't end in NYC, though. He is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case, but in an interview with MTV last year the rapper took responsibility for the arrest, which was also on a tour bus.

"I was irresponsible at that time. F--- up on my part. No ifs, ands, buts about it. I don't blame nobody but myself. I can't blame nobody for not taking my charge. ... This is my bus."

So you must take rape and killing indivdiuals as a joke. Brainstorm white people came from Africa as well as Blacks, you are obviously a very ignorant indiviudal, your simple mindiness is the reason why society is so jacked up. Maybe YOU AND ALL OF THE IGNORANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WHO PERCEIVE LIFE AS YOU DO, a place need to be created for all of you to live on and we shall call it brainlessville, you may have money and that's more than likely the reason why you think and act in the manner that you do beside the other reason you mother and father didnt have the sense to teach you any better. Since you act like you dont know how society is set up because it work towards your good but it works to keep Black people down plan and simple, it doesnt matter if you have money the same rules don't apply if you are white, this is the reason so many blacks are locked up celebrity or not, white people doing the same things or worse than what a black person has done or is doing are walking around foot loose and fancy free just like they have done nothing, because that is how society have always been set up. The truth of the matter is if your white you can get away with murder because that is the way it goes.

Well we really know what era your brain is stuck in still referring to people as spooks. Doesnt appear that you have more money than brains, because it sounds as if eventhough you appear to have a brain, it's not working off of anything but air, maybe if you have money you might need to consider going out and purchase you a brain, and just maybe it will register more than just stupidity. And you should feel good that one of your own haven't flip the script over your money if you have some, or over you not saying the right thing to them and someone finding you like so many of your own people cut up, shot up,and still residing in a house with corpses like so many of you whites do. And I really doubt if he will be rotting in jail.

#1. If it's in a bag, how long does it take to get it out of that bag? 3 seconds? So if he really wanted to, he could carry the bag into a store and three seconds later, he's shooting people.

I could not agree with you more. New York has some funny pointy headed liberal laws. Although I will give them this: they do allow phone calls to be recorded with the consent of one party to the conversation. Don't get me wrong I am not a right wing nutjob. I am progressive. I believe in protecting the environment,worker's rights and the public option. I also believe in the right of a law abiding citizen to carry a firearm. The world today is a violent place and the police cannot protect you.
