Jodie Sweetin is finally coming clean -- about not really coming clean. Despite her claims that she had kicked her drug habit, the 'Full House' star admits she's was just lying to everyone. In her new tell-all book 'unSweetined,' Sweetin says she relapsed but kept booking gigs to make quick money to pay for her drug addiction.
"I was back to partying like I was at my worst, spending seven hundred dollars a week on meth [and] coke." she wrote. She even reveals downing a bag of coke right before one of her interviews. After the jump, read the juicy excerpts >>
In an excerpts (via Huffington Post), Sweetin writes that during her sobriety college tour at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, "I thought for sure that one of the professors would take one look at me and kick me out. But none did. They wanted to hear about the trials and tribulations of Jodie Sweetin, or at least the Jodie Sweetin I had created by appearing on Good Morning America and talking to People magazine," she continued.
"The relapse started one day, just a few months after my GMA spot, when I got a random phone call from a friend who I used with and who occasionally sold me drugs. I invited her to my place. I was in an apartment at the time. I knew it was a really bad idea to invite her over but I wanted to test myself, I guess. We hung out, played cards. I told her I hadn't done meth in a while. One thing led to another and just like that, I was back," she writes.
"I was living a complete lie. But unfortunately, guilt doesn't make you stop. I talked about growing up on television and about how great my life was now that I was sober... The little bit of coke that I had done before the speech wasn't enough to make me forget how bad I felt for doing what I was doing. The guilt was eating away at me. I was struggling to keep it together, but no one realized that. I finished. They applauded. Standing ovation. Just how I liked it. And it was over."
Sweetin admits she returned to her room tired but made time for one more hit. "I was just so tired. Tired of lying. Tired of pretending to be someone that I wasn't. I took a deep breath and walked out of the lecture hall. I went back to my hotel room and buried my face in my hands. I couldn't keep doing this. It had to end.But not today. I wiped away the tears and finished the baggie of coke."
Drug addicts doen't get sober, alcoholics get sober, Addicts get clean. Don't confuse the two. Alocholism and drug addiction have two completly different dependence patterns, two different withdrawl patterns and two different recovery programs.
To Joe Heany....The 12 Steps are the same 12 steps for any addiction. Recovery is recovery...doesn't matter what word you use..."sober", "clean"...it's all the same. Please don't confuse the issue with semantics. It is hard enough for someone with a substance abuse or behaviorial problem to seek help and is more important to recognize similarities than differences. If you can't say something encouraging, please don't say anything at all. Thank you.
I work with addicts in my work in community corrections. An addict, especially I've found meth addicts, will lie in the face of irrefutible evidence. Addiction is a brain disorder; it's like they can't even help themselves. And that's why we can't take what they say at face value. It's not maliciousness that makes them lie. The addicted brain will do anything it can to keep the person using.
I agree, an active addict will continue to do what it takes for one more regardless of the consequence. In response to "MsMike" alcoholism and addiction do not follow 2 different sets of steps or recovery programs. The 12 steps are the same in each fellowship but with addiction their identification as addicts is all enclusive in regards to any chemical or mood altering substance. And your right, shes not "sober" she is supposedly clean. Addicts use the term clean over sober because the dictionary defines sober as anything below the legal drinking limit and the saying goes "one of anything is too many and a 1000 is never enough"
Drug addicts do lie. I hope she can get straight. It is a very sad thing to have to deal with. I'm not an addict, but my son is, and yes, that's when you educate yourself on addiction, when it's in your face.
Drug addiction is a disease. No one can understand it unless you are an addict or a loved one is. But if you go through it you get a deeper understanding of what a horrible disease/problem this is. I'm not surprised or shocked at Jodi's relapse or lies - it is part of the road to recovery. Hopefully, she will beat the beast and then be able to help others. God Bless her.
Unfortunately, people like her give a bad name to the Recovery process! I know people that have been clean for 25+ years. It works, if you work it! She invited her dealer over "To play cards"? Do the right thing and the right things happen...DUH!! Stop writing books, making TV apperances & Get your S%#t together. To the producers and others that make $$ on this chick, they sell a cheap over the counter Piss test. Maybe they should use one of those in the future on so called "Stars" who claim to have found the Recovery path to enlightenment!
Alot of you people are missing the point of the story. She's an addict. Of course she's a liar. Maybe by coming clean about her lying she is taking a step in the right direction to straightening out her life. The book is a cathartic process that SHE needs to face her problems.
I agree Bree... by telling everyone what she was doing again, now she can't hide behind it. It's easy to keep doing it when no one knows, you're not letting them down. When everyone knows you can't hide in the lies & you have to start facing the REAL problems.
You're missing the point... if people like you were working it like you should, there wouldn't be people in her age bracket struggling with what you went through. Stop being so selfish with the experiences that God gave you as in using it to separate yourself as better... you could be the difference in someone's life, a mentor, and inspiration, not someone using this page to put yourself on a pedestal!
DLN: Anger issues, perhaps? Maybe now that you're sober, you can get help with judging people who are addicts. You're a fraud! I love how people who are obviously not well-known use terms like "so-called star", and "has been" as if they understand or will ever come close to having the notoriety they clearly want. Also, what's up with capitalizing certain, choice words? Does it make you feel intelligent? Maybe you think it's demonstrative and therefore proves your point!
In the recovery process people relapse all the time. It happens. No one is perfect. When things like this happen, its helpful to remember the sober days that you really have had and just know that there can be more. I wish her the best of luck!!!
A lot of people who attend AA meetings lie about not using, so they can be bigshots, and tell everyone else what to do. You should never believe anyone who's been in 'treatment' when they say they haven't had a drink or used a drug for years - some admit they cheated, and start counting days again, but many others just pretend they're not doing it, and talk the 'recovery' bs.
I was talked into believeing that my depression was caused by going out on weekends with friends for a few drinks, dancing, and socializing. I was an out patient, and young, thus trusted people who had Masters degrees and Ph.D's. After cross tracking to Chemical Dependancy and attending AA, I found that most people who attend are liars and professionals will label you with any problem they can to make money. The real addicts rarely seek help.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

So is she "supposed" to be clean now? I don't think I will buy a book to support her habit. Not an enabler.........

You realize alcoholism IS a drug addiction... right? Just because society has labeled it differently does not make it different.
Coke, Meth, Alcohol. All are different addictions, but they are all DRUG addictions.
Poor Kid ,I hope she gets it together!!!!
