Tom Cruise Has Worst Week Ever
By Jo Piazza Posted Oct 23rd 2009 02:41PM
Tom Cruise probably didn't get a memo warning him this week was going to suck. So we imagine his head is probably still spinning from all the abuse being heaped on him from every angle. First we find out that Cruise inspired Christian Bale's sociopath killer in 'American Psycho.' Then blast from the past Bronson Pinchot, who starred with Cruise in the eighties classic 'Risky Business', spilled the fact that two decades ago Tom was "the biggest bore on the face of the planet" who made "constant homophobic comments" on set. And then Alec Baldwin had to go calling Tom out at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, telling him to take a $29 million pay cut in order to even up the pay-scale between men and women in Hollywood.
"Beating up on Tom Cruise has been one of Hollywood's favorite pastimes for a while - it stems from the combination of his incredibly high profile, random dating history and religious beliefs. When Alec Baldwin cracked a few jokes at Tom's expense recently at the Elle event, even Katie Holmes laughed," says PopWrap's Jarett Wieselman.
Now we do have to say that Cruise didn't do his public image any favors when he called a group of protesters outside a big Scientology gala in London a bunch of "squirrels...trapped in an electronic incident," but most of what went down over the past several days was largely outside of Cruise's control and now his camp has to scramble to make him likable again.
Of course, the Cruise public relations machine must have this process down pat by now.
Back in 2008 Cruise was able to overcome America's image of him as a couch-hopping past-his prime religious nut who hates on depressed pregnant women with his cameo as the ballsy, portly, sweaty studio exec Les Grossman in 'Tropic Thunder.'
Just by donning a fat suit and doing some bad white man dancing Cruise was able to make everyone forget all those times he lost it on 'Oprah'...and the 'Today' show...and 'Access Hollywood.'
Radio Host and author of 'The Cult of Celebrity' Cooper Lawrence thinks this time around Cruise needs to just shut his mouth and make movies.
"No one wants to hear what you have to say about any of this. Talk about your movies and that is all," Lawrence says. "Being a celebrity does not give you the right or the education to comment on every aspect of society. It is irresponsible when you know people around the world are listening to you and broadcasting your every single word."
Yes, Cruise could just lay low for awhile. But there is another strategy that just might give him the PR boost he needs.
Even though America thought Cruise was full-on bonkers when he almost broke Oprah's couch to declare his love for Katie Holmes, his marriage has given him the get out of jail free card that just keeps on giving...Suri Cruise.
"The smartest thing Tom Cruise has ever done is conceive Suri with his wife Katie Holmes. Sure her paternity/existence was in doubt for the first 4 months of her life, but all anyone can think of now when they see the two of them together is, 'awwww.'" Wieselman says.
"Seeing Tom play the doting dad really humanizes him in a way we've never witnessed before. So while he might still draw fire on his own, when Suri's sitting in Tom's arms, she becomes his scandal shield."
So at the end of the day, daddy may seem crazy but everyone loves them some Suri. So the quick fix for Cruise: Get working on Suri Part Deux.

Have not seen cynicism toward Tom Cruise since Roger Friedman. Tom has some major accomplishments in his life that few can compare. A wise man once said those that only speak of the negative...
Yes. Same nut job.
He's a dork. No this isn't about jealousy. I would not want to be Tom Cruise. He is a dork and not very likable. Yes , I do know that for a fact. I don't know how he made it this far.
TOM CRUISE IS JUST HUMAN LIKE US ALL AND NOT PERFECT!!HIS WIFE THOUGH NEEDS TO STOP PUTTING HIGH HEELS ON THEIR BABY..PLEASE!
yes it is
Tom Cruise is great! Too back we can't get more men with such personality and sexuality...and creativity. Bet he's better than most men in the kitchen and the rest of the house...and he can dance! Who cares what his religion is. This country is so screwed up because people are always being judged by others not fit to judge who don't realize that their freedom ends where someone else's begins. Hurray for Tom Cruise!!
I agree that given a celebrity status does not give them the education or right to comment and /or advise on issues. However, non educated people "listen" to these people just because they are a celebrity..hence Arnold, governor of the bankrupt state of California. After 911. I saw Madonna in concert. She went into her views on "One World" unity, etc...We do NOT pay to hear their opinions...we pay to get entertained!
If Tom Cruise thinks he's having a bad week, he should come and walk a mile in my shoes!
yeah, that's the Assh**e. And america still loves him.
Frank you jump on a person for misspelling Oprah, and in that same reply calling them ignorant about their spelling, you spelled ignorance wrong, you spelled it ignorence. Talk about ignorant, at least if you are going to be mean to someone about their spelling make sure you are able to spell properly yourself........
Patrick..
WHAT accomplishments? Except for making a total ass of himself in the media, he's done nothing exceptional. There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, remarkable about Cruise. You pretty much forget his movies as soon as the ending credits roll, and everyone on his planet knows his marriage is a scam and Suri is NOT his child. Sheesh!
YES, THAT'S HIM AND WHO CARES...BAD KARMA, WITH HOW HE TREATED NICOLE KIDMAN AND OTHERS. HE NEEDS TO FIND GOD!
Why can't everyone leave this guy along, so he crazy at times, big deal, who isn't.
Just because he has been married several times in the past, has adopted children and a child with his current wife, Katie, does not make him a animal. Many of us out there have been married several times in the past. Listen, Alex B, you should make remarks about Tom, you too had been paid a large salary as a actor at one time and you made nasty remarks to your daughter and it was taped and played on National TV, so who are you to talk. The other actor's that has played in past movies to Tom C, bit deal they didn't go as far as Tom did with his career. Tom's faith, well I may not agree with his faith, but if he faith agrees with it, then who are you, me or anyone else for that matter have a right to put this man down.
The Tom Cruise article was well written and says it all in terms of what TC needs to do in order to stay on top of his game. I agree with Cooper Lawrence in his saying,"Being a celebrity does not give you the right or the education to comment on every aspect of society. Cruise needs to just shut his mouth and make movies."
I can only hope and pray that what ever TC says or does from here on out does not have a negative impact on precious little Suri.
TOM CRUISE IS DEFINIITLY GAY like hes defintily married to katie homles to hid it.. its a fact hes hes a totall insecure homo

WOW you mean Cruise is after all just a person and has his own bad times and opinion. gosh guess that makes him human like the rest of us. DUH
How ironic, seem to me that everyone trashing Tom Cruise is not even his equal; therefore that trashing sounds like jealousy. They never made it big.
Tom as big as he became he also gives back to his Church 10% of his income. God bless men and women that take time to bless Him (God). He doesn't need defending. I don't believe he pays any attention to it.

I agree with you 100%. How you feel about yourself is what is most important. I don't care how people feel about me. I can't control that.
