Last November, Suzanne Somers faced an emotional roller coaster when six different doctors confirmed she had "full-body cancer." Somers was filled with fear thinking she only had days to live. "For six days, six doctors confirmed I had inoperable cancer. I went into that valley of fear. I saw my death, it was horrible," Somers said. Somers later learned she had been misdiagnosed.During the time Somers thought she had cancer, she spoke with several doctors and patients about their various treatments and decided to write her latest book, 'Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who are Curing Cancer and How to Prevent Getting It.' She shares what she describes as "groundbreaking and successful cancer prevention and care protocols incorporating chemo-free options that are available now."
The book has been highly controversial, and Somers said she's been attacked by doctors for promoting treatments that avoid chemotherapy. Somers argues that alternative methods are just another solution for patients who don't respond well to chemotherapy.
In 2001, Somers decided to forgo chemotherapy when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Instead she had a lumpectomy to remove the cancer followed by radiation therapy and used alternative treatments.
In her book, Somers writes, "Cancer death rates dropped only 5 percent from 1950 to 2005. What other technology has performed so miserably over this fifty-five year period? In contrast, the death rate from heart disease dropped 64 percent in that time, and for flu and pneumonia it fell 58 percent."
She continues, "It is a very brave choice to go against traditional medicine and embrace the alternative route. It's easier to try the traditional route and then, if it fails, go to the alternatives, but often it can be too late. My friend Farrah Fawcett - would she have made it if she had gone alternative first? There is no way of knowing."

Welcome to the world of medicine.
As a RN I daily see the powerful grip of fear that Western medical practice has on the population.
There are so many alternative treatments available for preventive and acute illness'.
Pharmaceuticals, insurance, lobby-ists and our elected leaders and the AMA hold a tight grip on the path of 'creating and treating America's illness' and they are all extremely profitable to those organizations...How can this be so? Because WE BUY INTO IT AND ALLOW IT!
Wake up! Suzzanne has a lot to share! She is showing each of us how to be responsible for our own health.
You go girl!
There's no way 6 different doctors all said the same thing about ANYTHING. Let's just say this sounds fishy.
This is a load of crap. She probably needed an excuse for more cosmetic surgery. She is a moron.
But can you really believe everything this woman says? Some people will do or say anything to stay in the spotlight!
I think she if absolutely full of it. I think she concocted this story because of the things she had to say about Patrick Swayze being "poisoned by his doctors", as she had a better way of going about it. BALONEY. I'd like to see the reports of the "6 doctors that told her she had "full body" cancer. " What in God's name is "full body cancer"? Cancers are pretty specific. You can have breast cancer that spreads throughout the body, but it would be called "breast cancer with metastasis", not "full body cancer". She is a liar.

So, YOU'VE had cancer, and YOU have all the answers, which she does not; is that it??? How so, then??
You sound like you have a monetary stake in calling her a liar. Alternative cancer treatments are the norm all over the world except in the United States. Treating cancer is a huge money making business. Curing it would put alot of companies out of business. That's why we have idiotic laws that forbid doctors from prescribing alternative methods. It is the law in this country, that only a drug can cure a disease. These drugs have been around about five to fifty years. Alternative methods for curing and treating disease have been around since cavemen
Horribly misleading. Firstly, as stated elsewhere, no idea what "body cancer" is. Secondly, there is a lot to take into account when considering cancer deaths. For instance, Somers neglects the most obvious triumph of chemotherapy: reducing the mortality from leukemia by 70% since 1960--children who otherwise would have died now have an 85% or better survival, all thanks to chemotherapy.
Want to talk about breast cancer? Let's consider a few things. One, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed. It's more prevalent now, but that's also because we are living longer lives so our chance to be diagnosed in our lifetime goes up. 50 years ago, people died of heart attacks in their 60's and 70's; now they're living to be 80 and 90 and are developing cancers--no big surprise. So, despite more people being diagnosed, more people are being cured--that sounds like progress, and it's not because of alternative therapy. Finally, with regards to chemotherapy and breast cancer, you might find a lot of disagreement between oncologists about when to offer chemotherapy, and that's because our information about recurrence and survival is evolving and our chemotherapy is changing, and we are developing new tests to determine how aggressive a cancer is. There are breast cancers that are cured completely with lumpectomy and radiation alone (typically, less than 2 centimeters or 1 inch and without spread to the lymph nodes) and don't need chemotherapy.
So, while it's nice that Somers wants to share her experience, take it with a grain of salt. It doesn't sound all that informed.
Maybe no doctor would say "full body cancer," but I can see where a layperson would call it that. When a doctor says "metastatic [organ] cancer, anyone could call it "cancer throughout my whole body," or even "full body cancer."
Too True!
She's so against doctors for cancer treatment, but she's clearly not afraid to go see her plastic surgeon!

lolololol so right
I think Suzanne Sommers is telling the truth about her experience. I believe change is hard for people. To learn to look at things in a different way means letting go of what we have been told is the only right way. The first doctor all those years ago to say that doctors should wash their hands before delivering a baby because of germs invisible to the naked eye was met with anger and ridicule. Western medicine has been a wonderful thing but its by far not the only thing. Great doctors realize this and have begun to embrace both for the sake of the patient.

Somehow there has to be a better way to treat cancer than the conventional chemo and radiation. Many people die from the treatment before the disease kills them. If Suzanne is out there looking for alternative methods, I'll listen to whatever she has to say.
Very convenient this so called scare was revealed as her book came out. NO DOCTOR says you have full body cancer..the above poster was right. And you go to oncologist, not just any old DR. You are given a full body scan to see where the cancer has metastised. So she is saying 6 different oncologist, doing all the correct and proper scans and screening, were ALL WRONG? I was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago and had chemo and a double mastectomy. I will tell you she is a LIAR!! Pure and simple, what she is saying is FILLED with holes and misinformation. SHAME ON HER!!

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. She had a lumpectomy and decided against chemo and radiation. The oncologist harrassed her for about one year, going so far as to call her two to three times per month to inform her she "would die within a year or two" without traditional therapy. It's been five years, she's cancer free and still alive. Alternative methods can sometimes work - and sometimes the treatment is worse than the illness!
So I guess since you had your experience, You must know everything there is to know about cancer. I guess all situations are exact and never vary. Who are you to decide that just because you do not like what she is saying, she must be lying. Glad you are so informed.
This an example of the medicine we see today, is all about money, big bugs are between a person
and a doctor, we need to get several opinions before we get under the knife or under chemotherapy, it is scary.

What a load of crap. All made up to promote a book, A diet, and personal appearances.
If she had "full body cancer" she'd be dead by now.
How dare she trump up these bogus cancer claims when people out there are really suffering and dying.
Shame on Suzanne Somers.
