Taylor Swift Caught in Swastika Scandal

Taylor Swift has found herself in the middle of a photo scandal, as pictures of her standing with a male wearing a painted-on swastika at Katy Perry's birthday party are creating a whirlwind on the Web. In the photo, Swift is seen embracing a fellow partygoer, and both are painted on and splattered with paint -- which was the theme of Perry's party. The male Swift is with, however, has a neck-to-waist giant red swastika painted on his white shirt. Swift's camp has issued a statement regarding the photo, telling TMZ "Taylor took pictures with about 100 people that night ... she doesn't know who this guy is and she didn't realize what was on his shirt."

Blogs like WWTDD have begun noticing, and comment boards are also on fire. A photo of the two, purportedly posted by the male in the photo, accompanied a thread titled "Taylor Swift and I Are Officially Dating." While there's no name given of the male, many commenters took to Taylor's defense, with one saying: "Or maybe you're just a needy loser who harassed her for celeb pics so you could seem cool to a bunch of strangers."

WWTDD asks in its headline about the post: 'Taylor, What Are You Doing?.' Blackbook, reacting to early-on photos of Swift simply in proximity of the swastika shirt, wrote: "Sure, Swift isn't swastika-clad herself. But as a celebrity whose star is sparkling especially brightly following some incident that we've long forgotten that left her looking a lot like those wounded kittens on those Sarah McLachlan-ASPCA commercials, any measure of swastika-proximity is not advisable."

Swift's image as the good, clean country pop star has been blemishless throughout her career, while fellow young stars like
Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan have often found themselves at the center of controversy.

Cyrus caused some racial uproar when she was photographed pulling her eyes in a gesture that many thought was mocking Asians. She was also the center of a major scandal when she posed topless -- albeit covered in a sheet -- for an Annie Liebovitz Vanity Fair shoot that caused an uproar.

Britain's Prince Harry also found himself in hot water when he went to a costume party in a Nazi uniform, complete with swastika armband. Photos of the costume made front-page newspaper headlines, and Harry later apologized "for any offense or embarrassment he has caused."

I'm not sure why you would have to be polite to such an idiot who clearly got EXACTLY what he came for, which is recognition. What a useless piece of crap that dude is. So desparate. He's freakin' lucky someone didn't grab him outside and beat the he11 out of him. Someone should have. And as for Taylor, i don't know what whould be worse- if she doesn't know what that symbol is, or if she does.

Just search on what the swastika means in Hindu culture. It has been a symbol of good for hundreds perhaps thousands of years. It wasn't invented by the Nazi's. Check it out.

Actually, it's a buddist symbol - inverted. The Nazis coopted the symbol and used a mirror image of it.

That was exactly my first thought when I saw the headline and to be honest, I wouldn't put it past a black person, such as, West to set this up!!!

To those who are putting the blame on her, my question to you is..... how many times have you taken a picture with someone at a PARTY that your happy, drunk ass didn't notice as to WHAT they were wearing???? Let me make it CLEAR. I'm not suggesting in any way that Taylor was drunk. I'm just trying to make a point!!

I can so see how this could have happened. I think most people can, besides of course, those who DEFENDED WEST'S actions towards Taylor!!!

Yes its just a picture of her standing next to a guy with terrible taste and we should not make a big deal about it??? Hmmmm, but then again if these celebrities want to keep sticking their noses into the political causes or the special interest causes, then maybe we should hold them more accountable for their actions. If they just stuck to doing their jobs of entertaining us rather then using their popularity to preach to us, this holding them to a higher standard would never happen.

Taylor hasn't ever talked about politics she never said who she voted last year which I don't care. As for celebs I just laugh if they say something off the wall on politics and I don't get vent out of shape either and don't lose sleep.

Unless Taylor is as dumb as she is blonde - then there is NO WAY she did not see the swastika! Again, you can defer to her idiocy and claim "well, she didn't know what it meant". Whatever the case, if she expects to be respected, then try showing a little more discretion and suggest "sorry, I cant take a photo standing next to you with that GIANT RED SWASTIKA painted on your shirt".

Taylor could tell people she thought the guy was a Buddhist. The swastika, in slightly different form, is a positive Buddhist symbol over 2,000 years old, standing for the wheel of time. Since Buddhists are compassionate and kind, that should overcome the Nazi connotation of the genius she is standing next to.

It's also a Native American symbol of good luck. They are all over states like Minnesota, and I have even seen them in brick buildings in Wyoming. I also believe the World War One UK war bonds had the swastika symbol on them as well. This is POPEATER making something out of nothing. taylor swift doesn't seem to be the sharpest knife in the drawer to me. she may not even know what a swastika is.

No big deal I believe Taylor that she didn't know the guy was wearing swastika. Personally I would never wear the swastika because of the hate that it sends.
