Chris Brown's 'Graffiti' Album Cover: Five Awesomely Ridiculous Things About It

Chris Brown is slowly making his musical comeback following his assault on Rihanna and subsequent guilty plea, and he's made a big step by unveiling the cover art to his upcoming album, 'Graffiti.' Generally, we let album covers speak for themselves, but this one is just so awesomely bad (and similar to Adam Lambert's masterpiece) that we had to dive deeper and break it down. After the Jump, Our Analysis!

1. The Guitar: Unless we missed something, Chris Brown has never played the guitar in a song or on stage, so unless he's taken up a new hobby while laying low post-assault, what's with the axe here? Will the new Chris Brown shred the fretboard a la Lil Wayne? One can only hope.

2. The Bionic Hand: We'll excuse the token literal "graffiti" spraypaint can, but why the bionic hand? Brown's time travel into the future seems to have caused him to lose his painting hand at some point, which begs even more: How will he play the guitar with one hand?! Seriously, people.

3. The 'Graffiti' Font: This is where things start to look a whole lot like Adam Lambert's recent album cover, which also caused many music fans to scratch their heads and think: "Joke? Right? Really? Wow." The glam-and-outer-space similarities are uncanny, but Lambert's was intentionally cheesy, so Adam 1, Chris 0. Also, if things are going to be as cut-and-dry as "Hey, the album is called 'Graffiti' so I'm going to have a spraypaint can," why isn't the title -- which is the direct result of the spraypaint -- done in graffiti style? Keep it real, Mr. Brown.

4. The Boots and Pants: Ladies and gentleman, Chris Brown is now part Ziggy Stardust, part goth. That seamline is far too tight for Brown's signature dancing brilliance, so maybe he'll be a bit more stationary ... and that would explain the guitar. Actually, it wouldn't. Nevermind on that.

5. The Cartoon Animals: We'll openly admit that there's likely a Brown-influenced reason these are there, and we simply don't know about it because we're not cool enough. However, with that said ... um, can someone explain?

i like his album cover; adam lambert, however, i think his album should be re-titled "miss thing". or "out of the closet and into the streets", or something like that.

The cover is just what the article said. Ridiculous and makes no sense. Of course folks who like him and his music fanatically will not dare to disagree with his choice of cover. Neither should dislike of the man influence the critique of it. Somewhere in the realm of reality though, one must stand back and ask, "What is he trying to say with this abstract and odd portrayal of himself? Why the guitar he doesn't play and how WILL he play it with that arm? Why is he spraying cartoon figures and why are they even there? Spraying cartoon figures isn't graffiti. Where's the wall of graffiti? Why are the boots open on the sides like they don't fit? Why make his legs look like they are broken?" Yes there are many things ridiculous about this cover. I just hope the message inside the cover is not as ridiculous.

exactly, this cover is atrocious. None of the elements have anything to do with each other. That moon? It's like this was made with google images and photoshop.

The comparison is irrelevant. Chris Brown's just looks ridiculous. That's because he's ridiculous. ADAM LAMBERT, on the other hand, is the total opposite. ADAM is beautiful, talented, classy, sexy...you name it. ADAM can pull off his cover bc his music definitely fits the Glam genre. It's awesome. Mr. Brown, on the other hand, caused me to lose all respect for him. It wouldn't matter to me if his album cover just said the words "I'm truly sorry" on it. I still wouldn't buy it. With all the glitz and glitter, it's still stupid, as is the artist selling it.

It's the cover being critiqued, not him, and the cover has nothing to do with the rating of his music. So stick with the subject.

I want to say I like it. But I can't. Not with those animals in the corner. It throws off the WHOLE dynamic. I'm a design major and those animals have NOTHING to do with the design, period. They do not fit the motif in any way, shape, or form, not even for the 'Grafitti' title. They stand out like a sore thumb that got smashed to pieces with a hammer. If he removed those I would like it. For now I have to say it's a no go. Sorry Chris.

Chris Brown has not proven himself to be worthy of my support again. For me and the standard of living that I'm trying to set forth for my kids, domestic violence isn't something that can easily be brushed off as just a mistake. Many people have gone on to early graves and legnthy prison scentences because of one bad mistake. I wish Chris the best of luck with his personal growth but I WILL NOT be buying any of his music or endorsed products.
