Eric Bana was uncomfortable while filming 'The Time Traveller's Wife,' but it wasn't an issue with the cast - it was a product of nude scenes on the chilly Toronto set. Bana's character jumps through time, landing at every destination completely naked. Bana tells the Sydney Morning Herald, "The nude scenes never felt magical. They felt like a pain in the arse.""I think I should have just had one big nude day," Bana adds. "Wouldn't that have been a good idea? Then I could have got it all over and done with, which would have been good. Those scenes were an unnecessary evil. I did exactly as I was told so we could get them done as quickly as possible and get on with the rest of the day."
Director Robert Schwentke acknowledges the difficulty of filming nude scenes, explaining that he took measures to make Bana more relaxed. Schwentke kept a closed set during those scenes, with only necessary cast and crew allowed.
"When you're dealing with nude scenes like that, I knew I had to provide a very safe environment for Eric," Schwentke says. "He had to know I was going to take care of him and that he could trust me. We live in a day and age where everyone has iPhones and camera phones so we'd have a tent set up when we were shooting outside and it was me and very few other people. The same held true for the indoor scenes."
Bana has two young children with his wife Rebecca Gleeson, and the actor says the kids are unlikely to see the scenes - or any of his other movies for grownups - any time soon. "Rebecca and I are very strict when it comes to the ratings of films," he says, "so they won't be seeing just about all of Dad's work for many, many years."
