Jon Gosselin Says He's 'Misunderstood,' Apologizes to Women in His Life

In an open discussion with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Jon Gosselin -- who is not Jewish -- opens up about his celebrity and his relationships with estranged wife Kate and girlfriend Hailey Glassman, PEOPLE reports.

"I think I'm just misunderstood. I'm not a fame seeker. Everyday I look in the mirror and I wonder [why I'm famous]. I don't sing. I don't dance. I'm not a Nobel Peace Prizewinner. I just had eight kids and I had a show on TLC," the father-of-eight explained.

"Half the stuff I've done, if I look at my moral compass, I shouldn't have done. I know that but I did it anyway. It's like fame canceled out conviction," he added.

Gosselin is also upset over the way he handled the dissolution of his marriage to Kate Gosselin. "I want to apologize to Kate in private," he said.

"I'll apologize to her for openly having relationships in the public eye. That was a huge mistake, because if she would've done that to me, I would have been extremely pissed off. Not because our relationship is over, it's almost like a stab in the back. And now that I think about it, it was a very wrong thing to do. I definitely regret it."

He also admitted that he and Hailey "should never have gone to France," so publicly.

"To ask for forgiveness from someone who may never forgive me is tough for me. I do apologize to Kate. I'm sorry for doing the things I did. I do ask for her forgiveness," Gosselin continued.

The 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' star does clarify the status of his relationship with Glassman. They pair had reportedly broken up.

"We decided not to take a break, just slow things down, until I get through my divorce and I know everything is settled and okay. I don't want another failure in my relationships. I don't want to make the same mistakes I made with Kate, with Hailey. I would just be repeating the pattern over again."

As for an interview that Glassman gave where she called him "emotionally abusive" and told everyone he had "mantrums?" "I was standing right there [at 'The Insider']. Mike [Gosselin's manager] was standing right there. He was looking at me like, 'Oh my god, what is she saying?' He's looking at my career going down the tubes and I'm thinking, 'Good for her, she got all of this out.'"

In another statement, Gosselin expanded on Glassman. "I will forever love Hailey. I see how all this has truly hurt her. She has not been happy and hates the media light that she has been put in. She is in no way a homewrecker.

How stupid can one persn be? Jon had problems taking care of kids, feeding, diapers ...., ? what about Kate? she's taking care of all of them by her self. move on kate, you are a beautiful lady, don't fall quickly into another relationship, you might wound up with another "donkey butt"

I can not stand either one of them. Both of them are Liars and the kids are in the Middle. I wish them both to go away and never have to see them again. When will it end!!

First of all, we the public, and the entertainment shows, are the reason that they are in the news all the time. I am an educated senior citizen, and once in awhile, I would watch Jon & Kate plus eight. I stopped watching the show, because I couldn't stand the way Kate would belittle Jon in the publics eye.I had my ownopion of this man, for allowing it to happen. Jon has a very feminine side of him, and I feel that this is the main readon for all of his trying to show everyone, by dating the woman he has. He is suffering inside, because he really has a secret, that only Kate knows, and that was the beginning of the breakdown.

Look--Kate is a little overbearing and she did chide Jon alot on the show. That said, He married her knowing full well what she was like. 1 kid changes things in a marriage, let alone 8. He should have tried to work it out. The things he is doing to affect Kate are childish. If he's going to get divorced and see other people, then go ahead and do it and let Kate move on with the kids. He's acting like a teenager. Grow up, Jon.

I think he is a huge jerk, and if you dont want the fame then why chose to have an intimate talk w/ your rabbi in front of the media..why not a heartfelt talk in private. He is a child in a mans clothes and anyone who refers to a divorce as an exciting adventure is a moron.

kate and the kids are the real victims here Jon wanted more fame and more money so what he's done is pull the plug on the very show that got him to where he's is right now

This guy is such a tool. He has not once thought of his kids not once. Jon has acted like a spoiled child who isn't getting his way. He is not misunderstood, he is just a lying piece of garbage too selfish too into himself to think of anyone else. He trashed the mother of his children while his wife was the only one thinking of the kids future and how best to support them all, while Jon acted like a complete ass and trashed her while sleeping with every trashy tramp that would let him. He stopped the show simply because he was fired not for the welfare of his children. Kate is the only thinking adult in this, and the public see's that now, and as for me I hope she soaks you good in court and you HAVE TO GET OFF THAT FAT LAZY ASS AND WORK FOR LIVING LIKE EVERY ADULT OUT HERE.

I've been thinking...instead of telling Jon and Kate to "just go away" WE should just go away! Every time you see another article about Jon and Kate, pass over it and don't write a comment. If we stop showing our interest/disinterest, then there won't be a reason for the media to think it will sell. This comment I just wrote is my absolute last one concerning these 2. Done!

John may look at himself in the mirror and wonder why he is famous. He is a loon and out of control as a husband and dad. Apparently he is not even a good boyfriend. They both have had more than their 15 minutes if fame and it is like watching a train wreck. I cannot stop watching the antics no matter how out of control they are and think we are getting addicted to this dysfunctional couple.
In a few years people will say Joh and Kate who?

Haileys not a homewrecker??? When you start to date someone who is still married and living with his family and you know it (especially when "daddy" did your boyfriends wifes tummy tuck) YOU ARE A HOMEWRECKER.... I was never a Kate supporter before but as we see what has been happening within the last year I have come to realize the reason she acted that way was because Jon is a child and needs to be treated like one.... For the people who rag on Kate for being out there, well at least she knew that eventually the Jon & Kate train would finally come to a stop and she was taking advantage of every opportunity to ensure that her family would be financially secure once that happened. What has Jon done "quit his job"??? There really was no need to quit his job they already had nannys and they made enough for daycare Jons just lazy and used Kates traveling as an excuse to sit on his butt.
