Mary Stuart Masterson Has First Child

Actress Mary Stuart Masterson and her husband Jeremy Davidson have welcomed a baby to the family. The 'Fried Green Tomatoes' star, 43, gave birth to a son on October 11, her rep told PEOPLE. The couple have been married since 2006, and this is their first child.

Masterson and Davidson, also an actor, met during a 2004 production of 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.' Masterson gained fame in the late '80s as the tomboy lead in 'Some Kind of Wonderful.' Most recently, she appeared in an episode of 'Cupid,' and a five-episode arc of 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.' Davidson has had recurring roles in 'Army Wives' and 'The Kill Point.'

The couple announced the pregnancy in May. At the time, Masterson's rep told PEOPLE, "They are really thrilled about the news."

"I'm very happily married now," Masterson said then, "and life is great."

I think it is awesome if they are in a place in time when they are ready to have a child. I am 42 and finally in love with the man I want to have a family with...and unfortunately/fortunately I'm 42. Neither one of us have children or been married previously. You people making snide comments about age and her/their decision~ should walk in her shoes and then maybe you would think twice before you jot down nasty criticisms...

Holly - My point is, the media often and deliberately neglects to mention fertility treatment where celebs are concerned; and this gives false hope to most (normal working) women in their 40s who are wanting a child. I won't even begin to go into the costs of FT - this too is often not mentioned.

I was told by three FT doctors, that without fairly aggresive fertility treatment, the chances of getting pregnant in your 40s without any help is almost zero.
