Is Chris Brown Stealing Rihanna's Thunder?
Posted Thursday 05 November 02:21 PM By: Jo Piazza

Doesn't it feel like the whole world wants to hold
Rihanna's hand today? Well except for
Chris Brown, who is still finding new ways to smack a girl down from afar. After her tearful chat with
Diane Sawyer this morning where Rihanna admitted she went back to Chris again and again and talked about how ashamed she was of herself for not being strong enough to leave an abusive relationship, women (and sensitive men) across the globe just wanted to be on that couch saying, "Girl we understand!"
All of that Rihanna good-will must have been too much for Chris to handle since he will try to strip away some of her sympathy thunder tomorrow night when he vents in his own sit down with
MTV News, a couple of hours before Rihanna's interview with
20/20 is scheduled to air. Is Brown doing damage control or is he just being a jerk? Our experts weigh in after the jump.
Chris already had his time to tell his side of the story. He did a series of interviews over the summer, including his admission of guilt and blanket apology on
Larry King. Rihanna kept quiet then so why can't Chris let her have her moment now?
"Rihanna has a new album coming out and if these interviews go well they could really help put her career back on the right track," says Career Coach
Tracey Steinberg. "If Chris Brown had always acted like a gentleman, he wouldn't be in this situation. If he wanted to do the gentlemanly thing now, he would let her have these moments."
In the pre-taped interview with MTV News'
Sway tomorrow night, Brown says he is just trying to move on. "My thoughts basically now is just, 'Ok, How do we get past it?," Brown says. "How do you, Chris, go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistake, turn it into a positive and help other people with this situation and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?"
Folks in the entertainment industry say they understand what Brown is trying to do and at the end of the day, artists need to do what they have to do to sell records.
"He has an album coming out and is getting ready to go on tour, he wants to make sure his and Rihanna's fans hear what he has to say and plug his agenda at the same time," explains public relations guru
Rebecca Brooks, President of The Brooks Group.
So we can't expect either of these stars to slink out of the spotlight because it would just be bad business. Rihanna's "
Rated R" will be released Nov. 20, while Brown follows with "
Graffiti" on Dec. 8. Business or not, does it make what Chris is doing right?
"To release your album the same time as your ex girl that you beat is releasing hers on top of announcing you tour the day she drops her first single is not fooling anyone," says
Pop Wrap's Ryan Brockington. "And don't even get me started on his dumb ass CD cover, where he is sportin' a pair of black tight pants that were probably left in his car by Rihanna when she ran for her life. On top of which he is holding a guitar ready to beat down a slew of animated goblins. Are you playing a game of 'How much crap can I pull over on the world Chris'?"

I simply don't believe that Chris Brown beat Rihanna for the fun of it or just because he was angry. It doesn't seem to be his nature to beat women senselessly. And if he did, more women would have come out against him and there would be clear indicators that beating woman was a part of his character.
To me, they seemed mutually abusive to one another. And the media coverage is glosses over this. As a result, Rihanna is the poor helpless victim and Brown is the evil woman-beater when neither of them are innocent. In this particular relationship, it took two to tango.
I'm not defending women-beaters, I'm just skeptic of celebrity stories and the reporting of them. I also think that picture of a bruised Rihanna was doctored.

Chris I agree 100% with you. I had been in 1 abusive relationship and though it was never right for him to hit me I sure knew how to push his buttons. Some people are like oil and water and shouldn't be together. Just because he hit her doesn't mean he will another woman. The right woman. I'm sure she played a big role in what happened. If he'd hit other women before we'd be hearing all about it.

110% agree Chris, the media is doing what they do best, pick a side & run the story into the ground. what about Rhianna's agenda?? she has kept quiet(9months) until now that her new CD is coming out and if Ryan Brockington wants to pick apart CD covers, Rhianna looks like she is showing the dark side of herself that she gave us a glimpse of w/ Disturbia. does she think she's being a role model with a title like "Russian Roulette" ?? i think what happened was horrible and that both of them need to heal and get past the damage it's done to both of their careers. they are treating Chris Brown like he's the next Mike Tyson or Ike Turner.

Would this be Chris Brown by any chance? If not, it is sad that some men think that smashing a woman in the fact is --- an accident? unintentional? did'nt mean it? not really violent? justified somehow?
Chris - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NEVER OK!

I watched a portion of the interview and felt it to be insincere and somewhat coaxed. Rhianna was the victim of a brutal attack, but what really preceded the fight? Ask any fan who as ever witnessed Rhianna outside of a staged meet and greet will attest to her snobbery and disdain for her fans...of which I am not one. Also if Chris is the "chronic abuser" he's being portrayed as where are the other smoking guns? The collaborating ex-girls to bolster the allegations leveled at Chris? Something doesn't feel right here...I wonder why? Was Chris a virgin prior to meeting Rhianna? Could that be why no other abused women have come forward to substantiate Rhianna claim. Hmmmmm

Have you listened to both of them speak? Neither one can complete an intelligent sentence. Will these 2 losers go away already?

I watched part of Rihanna's interview with Diane Sawyer and Chris Brown's MTV interview and you are right. Despite being in their early 20s, they sound like children (more so Brown).
They both sound young and dumb with no real life experience. What makes that such a shame is that they live in an industry which eats dumb people alive.

I couldn't agree more. Chris Brown can't even speak without putting the word "like" before every rambling thought in his empty head. What happened to the days when entertainers were "schooled" on how to present themselves as polished, poised, and professional with the social and intellectual skills to match?

Take it easy on Rihanna and her ability to communicate. She is not American and is from Barbados and just like any person where English is not their primary language, it takes time to formulate sentences to communicate it verbally. Sometimes, the thought process takes time in formulating the sentence to meet the American "fast-talking" expectations. The level of intelligence is not what is causing this...it is just communication.

Hey Observer. English is the only language in Barbados. It was an English colony that became independent in 1966. Now, understanding the accent is something else again. I can understand that you might have difficulty interpreting the broad Bajan accent. It took me years to understand my father-in-law but he was indeed speaking English.

Are you Kidding me with that? Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad, Cayman and many other caribbean island, first language is English but they also have a country dialect also called broken English or patwa. Most of the Caribbean island were ruled by the British. Both Rihanna and Chris are young and while they were busy arguing they didn't try to seek help before this erupted and the people around them turn a blind eye to there quarrels.(Ephesian 4:26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath). Now they are both trying to save their careers more so Chris Brown because Rihanna has the whole entertainment media on her side. It is wrong to hit a woman and it is wrong to provoke someone to wrath (2 kings 17:11 They did wicked things that provoked the LORD to anger). Instead to blaming both parties why not help them heal and learn to be good to each other. When people hurt each other we should help them to be good to each other and heal their relationship not separate them and choose sides. That's is why this will never stop. No matter how much they blow this incident up sky high.

I am glad that Chris Brown is doing his interview. The world should here his side althouh unlike Rihanna, he isn't making her look like the villan he is accepting ALL the responsibility although it;s not all his to share...... Rihanna IMO, is just as guilty as Chris is. Why should she get a pass simply because she is a woman? I've said it a thousand times & I will say it again. When you hit someone don't be so shocked that someone hits you back.
Couples fight and that's o.k. to admit but for Rihanna to run around playing little Ms Victim is so shameful & pathetic and those crocodile tears in her interview was from the guilt she felt for lying......
