Rihanna Tells Diane Sawyer: I'm 'Embarrassed' I Loved Chris Brown
In the first portion of her ABC interview,
Rihanna tells Diane Sawyer that she went back to
Chris Brown "eight or nine" times following domestic violence incidents, and that she was blinded by love and made the wrong choices. "Don't react off of love. F love," Rihanna emotionally pleads to young girls who may be in her situation. Rihanna also says it was "embarrassing that's the type of person that I fell in love with," referring to Brown.

During the portion of the interview, Rihanna says that she had troubles coming out with her side of the story because "there are a lot of women who experienced what I did, but not in public. It made it really difficult. Here it goes, my little bit of privacy was exposed. It's something nobody wants anybody to know. So here I am."
She says she was "embarrassed" by the situation because she "didn't want people to think that's the kind of person... I fell in love with that person," a love "so unconditional that I went back," Rihanna said, adding that it's "humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It's a traumatizing experience." When Sawyer said many women often go back to their abusive boyfriends several times, Rihanna chimes in with her own personal number: "Eight or nine, actually."
There had been reports of previous domestic violence instances between Brown and Rihanna via her police report from that February night, but this is the first time she's acknowledged such a high number.
"I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong ... I'm a human being and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal," Rihanna tells Sawyer. "I'm not perfect. It's pretty natural for that to be the first reaction. It's completely normal to go back and start lying to yourself. The minute the physical wounds go away, you want this thing to go away. This is a memory you don't want to have again."
So what made Rihanna finally see that going back to Brown wasn't the answer? The fact that she has such an influence on the public thanks to her fame.
"When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I couldn't be responsible ... If Chris never hit me again, who's to say that their boyfriend won't ... kill these girls? These are young girls. I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls until that happened. It was a wake-up call for me, big time, especially when I took myself out of the situation," Rihanna says emotionally.
She also offers advice to "any girl who is going through domestic violence: Don't react off of love. F love. To come out of the situation and look at it third-person and for what it really is, you then make your decision. Because love is so blinding."
Brown is currently serving five years probation after pleading guilty to felony assault charges stemming from the February 8 attack on Rihanna.
The full Rihanna interview will air on ABC's '20/20' on Friday night. Brown will also be doing an interview of his own, which will air on MTV on Thursday night.

I was shocked when after this event, women wrote in suggesting this girl did something to DESERVE being beaten.
Bravo Rhianna...you are a class act, and now you're a woman. Thank you for understanding that how you acted will impact on so many young women's minds. Don't listen to the trash talkers...you did the right thing...and bless your future endeavors in life and love!

Being a former case advocate for women who have been victim's of domestic violence it really irks me that people victimize the victim again after they speak out about the abuse. Abuse is abuse, verbal or physical, and a woman can never beat a man so the man (being a gentleman)has an obligation to walk away and cool off. I know many men that would never raise a hand to a lady for any reason. He was wrong, domestic violence has been part of his upbringing and he needs to get the counseling he needed as a child. Bravo Rihanna for speaking out to save the life of another young lady. Women lose their lives every second at the hands of a love one??? People wake up and stop judging others.
Its so funny and ironic how society works! Its OK for a women to work among men at jobs and military, but its OK for a women to a hit man and the man cant do anything about it or else he will be ridiculed! Women species is very very emotional! This a prime example of alot of pressure build up in a relationship and exploded on t.v. All im saying MEN AND WOMAN ARE WE REALLY EQUAL???
Ii is sad for me to read how crazy people are to write those comments. You dont hit people, period. We are human,we get angry. However be strong and walk away.I believe this situation will help the world on domestic violence.Man have to understand some girls can be so bad, just be strong and walk away.Chris learn a lesson to loose a beautiful girl like that.she is unique. He will regret to loose that girl all his life.Woman should walk away as soon as possible when a man hit you.If he do it once,he will do it again and again until he kills you.I grew up to see my father beating my mother. It is the wrost thing a child can experience. She stay w him until he died on her hand.
I just read that comment...and I pity the woman who posted it for her low self esteem. Let's hope she doesn't have daughters, who will grow up thinking its ok for a man to beat you.

I dont think any woman(or man, for that matter) deserves to be hit or beat in a relationship. However, isnt this the 3rd time Rhianna has "broken her silence" about Chris Brown?? Didnt she do it on Oprah and in a magazine too? I think it is horrible that it happened to her and it shouldnt have happened to her...but the timing of the interview is a tad much too coincidental.
so? Chris brown did the interview like a month ago, coincedently before his single. And atleast Rihanna GAVE an interview, unlike Chris, who sat there saying "I can't really say.." like 10000 time.
And I don't care what anyone says...Woman OR man, violence is NEVER okay. Period.

You are so right if there was no album we would not see her. Selling her soul to sell an album.
Not replying to Suri, but to Leslie. Leslie....excuse me, what is this: "Abuse is abuse, verbal or physical, and a woman can never beat a man so the man (being a gentleman)has an obligation to walk away and cool off." Are. You. On. Drugs? Living on another planet? Living in a cave? I'm sorry, but what the hell? A woman can never beat a man? In what universe? I'm a woman, so please explain yourself.
Let me get this right - so if you "snoop in your man's business if you're not married" it's OK for him to hit you - in fact you should expect to get hit??? Wow - obviously a comment from another abuser.

Are you kidding? He apologized and is trying to make it right? How dense are you? She went back to this creep 8 or 9 times after this kind of physical abuse. yea, he's trying to make it right, he's lying and trying to cover his azz so he has a career left. Be real. This girl gave this creep too many chances and should have had him locked up after the first incident. You need help.
