Sir Ian McKellen stopped by 'The View' on Thursday for a friendly chat about his latest project, but ended up schooling Whoopi Goldberg on the difference between Dumbledore and Gandalf. After discussions about his TV series 'The Prisoner' and a semi-testy exchange with Elisabeth Hasselbeck about flu shots and government health care, McKellen got asked: "Are you coming back in 'Harry Potter'?" The question, from the show's moderator, silenced the audience and confused the rest of the panel.
"Well, if I were Michael Gambon, I might. But I don't play Dumbledore," he explained. "I play in 'Lord of the Rings.'" [crickets]

They need to do some homework before a guest is on the show.

Not when you think you know everything like Those Ladies.

Yeah, then she asked him if we will ever see "little black hobbits." Give it up, Whoopi! He should have answered, "perhaps when we see little gay hobbits." Tolkien must be shaking his head somewhere.

Well put, fellow scholar. Do you think anyone in this discussion knows the background of Tolkien or C.S.Lewis??
Hyper-super Christian? Or are you referring to something else?
(Hyper-super Christian, meaning likely very homophobic, and also racist due to the times they lived in)
So what!! Whoopi is almost always on point. Everyone is entitled to a miss.(right church, wrong pew). Elisabeth was the one, as usual, she was rude, over-talking the guest in order to make HER point.

I agree with you. I don't watch this show, it just happened to be on my aol that I clicked on it. It was really irritating and annoying of that woman hasselback to distastefully interrupt a guest so she could bring up her unsolicited political nonsense. If she wants to talk about politics, why can't she just make her own political show for all of her political crap?! Can't stand her!
Gahhh I totally agree. Elisabeth was so rude! As soon as Ian sat down she started spewing false information. It was so annoying. I mean seriously. I'm tired of her saying crap. That's all it is, is crap. She needs to get her facts straight before she starts forcing her opinions on people.
Wrong again. Whoopie (cushion) is the one that is usually rude. Elizabeth is the only sensible one on the show.
That twit Elizabeth is the reason I can't watch the show any longer. He voice sounds like fingernails on a chalk board and she constantly has to interject her nasal comments when she should have kept quiet and let someone else speak. I can not STAND that woman. If they'd get rid of her, I'd be a viewer again....
Elizabeth needs to get a life. She is so rude and never, never, never shuts-up......How does she stand herself?????????!!!!!!! Please zip it!!!!!!

Elizabeth is the only one on this show with any sense or intelligence.
Sometimes I wonder what drugs Whoopi's on.

Whoopi likes the ganga.
She was probably on something for her miserable cold - you people who don't like her because of her looks - her hair, how she dresses - whatever - need to notice how good she listens and how level headed she is - a stark contrast to the loud, annoying ego of Elisabeth who just wants to rant her Limbaugh parroting.
Good ole LIB DEM whooooooopie!!! What a FOOL! LOL!! Of course since she is a LIB DEM OBAMABOT Idiot she gets a pass!!! DUH!!!
I don;t know how Elizabeth puts up with all of the LIB DEM CRAP spewed by all of those LIB DEM OBAMABOT MORONS, day after day!!

Jim! You poor fool.
I like Whoopie but I think people getting paid a lot of money for one hour of air time should do the work that is required behind the scenes or pay an assistant-it is very disrespectful to the people who come on the show, granted they are "only entertainers" but they are in the "entertainment" business and make lots of money from these actors/celebrities/stars/musicians who come on their show-people don't watch only for "hot topics" how long can you listen to opinionated women talk over each other before your head explodes we watch for the guests, would she like it if someone mistook her for the predator?

I'm sure you're right about doing research. But, she said she was sorry. She was feeling under the weather. He said many people confuse the characters in "Harry Potter" with the ones in "Lord of the Rings" and he touched her on the knee to indicate it was no big deal. So, why is AOL reporting this like it's an important story, or she REALLY messed up?
