Perseverence has paid off for Ellen DeGeneres, as the quirky talk show host shmoozed, begged and charmed her way onto the cover of Oprah Winfrey's O Magazine, marking just the second time that Miss Winfrey has shared a cover with another woman. The first? Just someone you might have heard of -- First Lady Michelle Obama. Winfrey herself recognizes Ellen's dedication, saying that she's "a woman who can make things happen."Over the last month, DeGeneres has pulled out all the stops to get herself on the cover of O. She documented on her daytime talk show how she called to Harpo Studios -- which run the Oprah empire -- which didn't go over so well. She was put on hold for 11 minutes and never got connected to the proper person.
Ellen also created mock covers of O magazine with Ellen photoshopped in.
Winfrey eventually noticed, and obliged Ellen's desire. The two will share separate December covers of O magazine, which Oprah announced during a live chat on 'Ellen.' "I was so upset that you were put on hold for 11 minutes, I still haven't gotten over that ... When I first heard about this ... I thought it was such a fantastic idea. I was only sorry that I did not think of it myself, so I'm calling to officially invite you on the cover of O," Oprah said to much applause.
In a statement on her Web site, Winfrey said that "Ellen DeGeneres is a woman who can make things happen. When she decided she wanted to be on the cover of O, she pulled out all the stops (just look at her creative concepts here). It worked -- for only the second time in O history, this December, I'm sharing the cover with a woman I adore."
On Monday, Nov. 9, Oprah will interview Ellen about the whole process, and likely a good deal more.

send the info to Ellen. She may need it.
Ellen is certainly a funny comedienne, which helps when there are more difficult worldly issues like war, lost jobs, and a poor economy happening. However, I don't find it that impressive that she (Ellen) made getting on the cover of "O" magazine such a personal and public priority in comparison. It just seems a bit selfish and conceited if you ask me. This stunt of hers is getting way too much coverage if you ask me. Maybe she and Oprah will donate magazine sales to charitable causes, wounded vets, etc., which would be even more impressive instead of lining their own pockets out of ego, when both of those ladies are most likely set for life financially.

Jules, HMMM, I love Ellen, always have. Ellen's job is to make us laugh and forget our daily problems for an hour, not change our economy...that's Obama's job. Let Oprah help with that...
It seems to me that Ellen just aims to entertain. If you watch her show, she uses her quirky, live-in-the-moment, lighthearted-with-no-apologies attitude to make people laugh. I doubt this was meant as a serious political stunt to improve her ratings. I just see it just a wacky idea with no particular import, except to seem a little ridiculous and lighten everyone's day.
Way to go, Ellen. It worked on me, and things like this remind me to stop taking everything seriously.
(By the way- she DOES give back to people, and very generously. Do a Google search on the different things she has given away, and you will see what I mean.)
Why does everyone talk so much about celebrities giving their money away to other people who didn't earn it?? This is a ridiculous statement. No one comes to your door looking for a hand out if you are the wealthier of the neighborhood. People do NOT have to give their money to other people just because they make loads. If you don't like that celebrities have more money than you do, go out amd make more. No one is stopping you. As far as the O magazine stunt....anyone watching the Ellen show knows she jokes about everything and this was nothing more than fun. Lining your pockets out of ego or out of any other reason is a great idea and of YOU were able to do it just by being funny or talking on a talk show you would. Get over the jealousy people and get a job that puts you in the same financial category.
I'm glad nobody asked you.
While I find the fact that Oprah sees fit to be on EVERY cover of her magazine extremely egotistical and quite weird in fact I think Ellen is extremely funny and her begging and pleading and making it is great as she is the only other person other than the first lady that Oprah has deemed fit to grace it cover other than herself!! However both ladies spend money on charities and do work for foundations they feel are appropriate,,,,Just because someone is successful does not mean we have to put them down all the time. This is still America!!! And I DO NOT come from money nor will ever have the hope of having any...but just glad to see someone enjoying it!!
Jules, have you ever done anything just because you wanted to do it? I am sure that not every choice you make is targeted towards making wounded vets better, or giving them money,so why are you downing Ellen? Ellen wasn't handed anything in her career, she worked her way to the top,it took her years & years, so if she wants to be on "O" magazine, she DESERVES it! Why exactly did you feel the need to type something like you did? As if it is Ellen's responsibility to "save" the world, like others posted, it is not her job, her job is to make us laugh & forget about our day to day problems!
Yet another loser who turns something that has nothing to do with politics into just that. They dont have to share their money with anyone!
Snarky, snippy, incorrect article.
have you ever watched ellen? she gives away a ton of stuff to deserving people. and even if she didnt, its HER money so it doesnt matter what she does with it. and horay for ellen on getting on the cover of 'O' i wish opera would share the cover with more people, she has got to run out of posses eventually...
this is capitalism, profit boy. Not giving away crap, to the victor goes the spoiles not hand out begging that socialist. the gop has gone from praise the military to hand them your money no no no no no
What I'm most shocked about is that Oprah allowed her to be on the cover! The ever self-absorbed Oprah allowed Ellen to be on the cover, and yes, it will bring more and more revenue to their already filled to capacity pockets.
Both of these ladies donate to alot of causes, I think you need to read some info on them before you judge
Ellen is a real person. For the life of me, I cannot understand why she wanted to be on the cover of O Mag.

Why did she want to be on the cover of O because she wanted to kiss Oprah's butt.
I can't understand why anyone cares to watch either one. Oprah has been on the Air way to long.
Ellen cries on TV because Ca. voted NO on Gay marrage, why ? because its wrong, God says its wrong. If you can't make babies because you both have the same body parts their is a reason. God did not intend it the way...... furthermore for the state have allowed it show they too are now getting Divorce.
Is this the new "OE"? The original will be hard to beat.
Both women are pretty incredible in their own right.

Why is it so hard for Oprah to share her magazine cover with someone else? To me, this makes her come across as a very egotistical person.

I didn't even know Oprah was the only one on the magazine's cover. But, when I saw the headline for this and read the article that was my exact sentiment.
