Robert Downey Jr. Likes View From the A-List
Robert Downey Jr. is the current comeback king. After a long, notorious battle with drug addiction, Hollywood has happily welcomed him back with leading roles in big-budget films like 'Iron Man' and 'Sherlock Holmes.' In the
December issue of Esquire, Downey opens up about his lucrative rise to the A-List, as well as his plans to have children.
On making money: "I love being a part of something that makes other people a bunch of dough. And I don't need to make nothing but big movies. In fact, if anything I'm probably in danger of wearing out my welcome."
On being A-List: "Suffice to say, dude, I'm not paranoid anymore. I'm not fearful. It's interesting to be surfing this tremendous crisis of capitalism - and I know there's a coral reef under me and I don't want to hang ten, but I do think that when you're in the pole position, that's when you try to beat your best personal time."
On starting fresh: "I hit my stride later than most folks. A couple years ago, it really was a big old hip-hip-hooray and let's get somethin' shakin' here. Then pfffffff - it reorganized at this higher level, and now there's more to manage, and more opportunity. And then there's nothing except the question of pacing - because I can go fast like this for a little while or I can start pacing it down and get where I'm actually supposed to be heading - and it's really, really elusive."
On having children: "The big unspoken thing here is that we intend to have a family... Hell, yeah. Speaking of artifacts. The ultimate artifact of our love. In a onesie.

Robert Downey Jr. should be in jail. He is not an icon nor is he a big celebrity. He is a drug addict and should not be publicized. He is not what I want my kids to be and I do not want them thinking he is a big deal. Go back to rehab - go to prison, I don't want to hear about him anymore.

Boy Marty are you unforgiving or what???? Robert has paid for his past, and I am thrilled he's on the scene, and hot again. The guy is an amazing actor, and I am looking forward to the rest of his career.
ICON and will be a legend. Obviously you don't know hollywood.
I hope you never fall from grace! People in glass houses should not throw stones. Are there no skeletons in your closet? Almighty Marty, is that your name?
He is a wonderful actor and singer! He has brought himself back completely and then some!!!! I personally love him and his music!
So once an addict ALWAYS an addict? He's put that behind him now, why can't you?
Wow. How judging are we??? I guess only because you are perfect can you be so unforgiving of one's journey then and now.
Way to go, Robert! If anyone deserves this kind of success, it's YOU! Quite possibly one of the best of this generation!

I think it is great! I am glad for him and for all of us that his drug problems seem to be in the past. This is the Robert Downey Jr. that we knew was there and glad to see for a bunch more years.

"Proud of him" doesn't begin to describe it!! I waited a long time for the best actor of my generation to clean up and get back out there. Thank God he made it!! Now it's just "time" until he gets the Academy Award he should have gotten for Chaplin!!!

I've never personally liked Mr. Downing. But I can certinally relate to his life's experiances. Quite frankly I applaud his success in recovery. You can't stay sober or clean with out rededicating your life. My sponsor told me once if you don't like where your headed change directions, this is overly simplified, but thats what it takes to become productive in our society. He has changed directions he is rehabilitated and is this not what we want for all people who are addicted, for them to change and to be productive. You'd want the same for you loved ones. Again I applaud my recovering brother and sisters, although we have a past are future is much brighter today than it once was. Our pain has subsided and were into healing and discovering the extent of the damages left in our wake and then setting out to make ammends to thoes we have harmed. So you see I will not throw stones at someone who is trying to succeed I will reach out a hand and give encouragement. God speed Robert and most of all never forget the pain and the harm you endured and caused. This will enable you to stay on the recovery path.
