DJ AM's Estate Sues Jet Charter Company for Wrongful Death
DJ AM's mother is picking up where her son left off in his legal fight against Learjet, TMZ reports. Andrea Gross has amended his $20 million lawsuit against the plane manufacturer, the pilots' estates and others by adding a wrongful death claim, Los Angeles court papers show. "The crash ultimately caused Adam Goldstein's death at a later date," the papers state. In September 2008, Goldstein and musician Travis Barker were the sole two survivors out of six in a horrific private plane crash in South Carolina.
The amended suit in L.A. County Superior Court notes DJ AM was forced to take various drugs as a result of the burns he suffered, along with the emotional distress. In addition to Clay Lacy Aviation, DJ AM's estate is suing the travel service, Goodyear Tire, Learjet and the estates of the two pilots who were killed in the crash.
Prior to this accident, Goldstein had been clean and sober, according to friends. He suffered drug addiction in his early 20s but had kicked the habit for ten years. Then at age 36, Goldstein was found dead in his New York City apartment on Aug. 28 2009; he had overdosed on a toxic combination of prescription drugs and cocaine.
A trial is set for March 2. Learjet has previously denied all responsibility for the crash.

Goldstein paired up with rock drummer Travis Barker to form TRVS-DJAM, where the two played off of each other's improvisations. In September 2008, their plane crashed after a South Carolina show, nearly killing them both.

In the crash that killed four other people, Goldstein and AM narrowly escaped, but suffered bad burns across their bodies. "My eyebrows and layers of skin were burned off my face ... My forehead was gouged and my arm had skin hanging off. I was in shock and didn't feel anything," Goldstein told PEOPLE.

A month later, DJ AM triumphantly returned to the stage, playing the role of DJ for rap superstar Jay-Z.

So why didn't any one in his family speak up BEFORE they started pumping drugs in him? Did his doctors know he was a recovering addict? Why would you give a recovering addict those types of drugs WITHOUT SUPERVISION?? Suing the estates of the pilots is just WRONG. Suing for wrongful death is awful too.

Is his mother serious? First of all he was using drugs before this accident and just because he was so called clean doesn't mean that a person doesn't relapse. This mother says he went 10yrs without drugs. How does she know? He could of slipped up once or twice. And if this accident never happened he may of still been using drugs before this accident and it would of still caused his death. When a family member dies, people always look to someone else to blame. Take the blindfold off and realize that your loved one had a problem. Next people will be blaming the drug dealers on the corners for providing drugs to the drug addicts and suing them. Give me a break! It is wrong to sue for that. I can see for the injuries he sustained in the accident if he had sued but for this mother to take over and blame them for her son is ridiculous. It's sad and untimely that her son passed away but suing is wrong.

Dude you are way off base. Have you ever been almost entirely burned alive in a plane crash? OF COURSE he must have been through something you or i could never imagine. And yeah being a previous drug addict i'm sure only escalated the matter. That being said, i think it is unbelievably insensitive of everyone on this post site to say things like that about a wonderful person. He wasn't perfect, but i do not believe that the drugs are to blame. Yeah they may have literally caused his body to give up, but his heart and soul were long gone even before the day they found his body. For what reasons do people do drugs in the first place? The same reasons a fat person eats or a smoker smokes. We all have our ways for coping, and although i in no way am justifying his choices, i can still understand what would drive him to that point. None of us know if he really was clean for 10 years or if he wasn't, regardless, his mom has every right to sue. That plane crash WAS the ultimate cause of his death, and even if i am the only one who thinks so, i believe that even a broken person deserves justice, if only for his family.

How awful to sue the estate of the pilots that died. Those pilots did not make her son OD on drugs. People just cannot take responsibility for their own actions. The mother is grieving and probably cannot accept what caused her sons death.

He died because he abused his body with drug use any normal judge In his right mind would say no lawsuit youre son was a known drug abuser, The plane crash should have opened up his eyes to a second chance at life and should have made some serious changes from that point forward..Sorry I have to be honest.
