'Glee' Actor Hopes Cast Didn't 'Crap On' Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin''
By Bryan Alexander Posted Nov 13th 2009 05:50PM
It might have been the pilot episode of the smash series but performing 'Don't Stop Believin'' is still the high point and a "dream come true" for 'Glee' actor Cory Monteith. "It's just such an iconic song," Monteith tells PopEater. "It's such an anthem. Everyone knows it. Everyone has heard it. It's much more than a nice tune. The song speaks a lot to everyone kind of finding their own place, and searching for somewhere in the night. Just like the lyrics."

Monteith took time off from video game worship at the Maxim and Ubisoft Launch of 'Assassin's Creed 2' in Los Angeles to pay tribute to the kings of anthem rock who originally performed the song: Journey.
He said the song was perfect for 'Glee,' which is filled with "underdogs and people finding their niche." On the downside, the rights to use the song did not come with any instructions or advice. "We received nothing in terms of that," laughs Monteith. "Just don't crap on it. I think was the general plan."
Clearly the general public loved it as the song hit gold certification for digital sales in excess of 500,000 downloads, and to date, over two million 'Glee' songs have been purchased online.
But what did the Journey think? Monteith believes even they can respect that "it's a different animal. It's a rock song, and we kind of made it into a pop song. I think it was respectful."
Nonetheless he's kind of dying to know. "Steve Perry, if you're reading this, and you want to drop me a line on Twitter, feel free to let me know if I crapped on it, or not. I am more than open to your critique," Monteith said.

They have destroyed that song, it is a classic and should not be tampered with. I couldn't watch the entire video due to the fact that it was destroying a classic Journey song. "Please stop the believing".

I could not possibly agree more. If you are not Steve Perry, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS OR ANY OTHER JOURNEY SONG! You cannot do it justice.
If your child were in a glee club, and they did the same song, would you tell them that they were destroying the song? Probably not. If you don't like the show, then you should probably get over it.
I disagree. I liked the song before but I loved their version of it. If you can do a better job I am dying to hear it!
I have loved that song so much I have it as my ring tone. Well actually I loved just about every Journey song for as long as I can remember. I've heard other singers try to cover it before and all they end up doing is killing it.
I'll never forget hearing Don't Stop at the end of the last episode of the Sopranos, and it was aung the ONLY way it was should be.

Better done by the acapella group Penn Masala. This version on Glee ....not so good.

REALLY....that journey piece of crap ?? Who cares ? That band is to music what MacDonalds is to fine dining... Journey has the integrity of a mcnugget.

Please don't do a disservice to McDonalds. McNuggets are cheap but tasty and filling. Journey is just cheap.
LET'S GET IT STRAIGHT
PERRY HAS A GREAT VOICE
NO ONE HAS THAT SAME SCHNAZOLLA TO HIT THOSE NOTES.
AND THAT'S WHAT YOU WOULD NEED TO SING THAT WELL.
STREISAND HAS A GIGANTIC GERONIMO LOOKING WHOMP.,
TONY BENNET HAS A HOOKED BANANNA
& SO IT GOES > ALL FUGLY. BUT > ALL GOOD SINGERS

Props to Bennett and Streisand but Steve Perry sounds like his vocal cords are being forced through a pencil sharpener while somebody is stepping on his balls.
You were fired from Mickey D's weren't you?

That is just horrid! Does anyone over 10 really watch this show?

yes im 13 almost 14 and i watch the show. Its probably the best show on tv. they've won awards two years in a row. if you dont have something nice to say dont say it at all!
Oh please, Journey are the biggest purveyors of disposable forgettable tripe ever in the history of rock and roll. I never intended to watch the show anyway but now I have a good reason.

LOL oh you precious snowflakes that are so threatened by a show! 500,000 down loads of songs sung by members of this cast. Yeah the stuffed shirts in that wastedland called Hollywood aren't going to let this cash cow disappear anytime soon.
....and you may even see a copycat version showing up on the tube soon! Oh I can hear you twits now, screaming...writhing in pain.
The show is fluff, air and at least the Simpson girls aren't in this thing!

writing in pain? I think that's a little over the top
you did a great job with this song. i would have never thought it would be this good as a pop version. the show is great too!

It's a classic because it has a hook that should be on the controlled substance list. You can hate, but you have to respect these kids and what they bring to the show.

First of all the song is absolutly amazing!!!! I think that Glee did an awesome job and i give them two thumbs up! Usually i would say remixes suck dont mess with the original song but Glee did not ruin it they just made it their own!!!!
