Wondering why 'Gina Gershon,' 'Tony Alamo,' and 'Friday the 13th' are surging in Google Trends? We can shed some light on the mystery. Google Trends provides the hottest keywords of the hour. Though the results change frequently, at any given time the list offers a snapshot of what's hot in the world of entertainment news. Here's what's steamin' today...Tony Alamo – "I'm glad I'm me and not the deceived people in the world," pedophile evangelist Tony Alamo told the court Friday after being sentenced to 175 years behind bars. The 75-year-old preacher was found guilty of taking several underage girls across state lines for sex. Alamo's lawyer argued the evangelist is physically unfit to spend time in prison. But a doctor called to the stand admitted he saw Alamo only once 5 years ago for a cosmetic procedure to make him look younger. "Maybe the real God, not the God you made up, will have mercy on your soul," one of his victims said in court.
Sammy Sosa Face Before and After – Speaking of cosmetic procedures, what the heck is up with Sammy Sosa's face. You've seen the pics by now. On Tuesday the slugger explained everything. "I use a cream to keep my skin smooth and soft. I apply it before I go to bed. When I was playing for Chicago all those years, I was in the sun for a lot of 1 o'clock games," he told Univision. As for the colored contacts? He wears them because he wants to "try something different. I'm not trying to be superficial." It all makes sense now.
Friday the 13th Superstitions – Triskaidekaphobia: fear of the number 13. But why? No one knows the origin of 13's malevolence for sure. One guess has to do with the Last Supper being attended by 13 guests. Another is that it's simply the number that follows the benevolent number 12 – 12 months in a year, 12 zodiac signs, 12 tribes of Israel, etc. Henry Ford, Napolean and FDR are just a few famous dudes who were famously afraid of 13. FDR wouldn't ride on a train on the 13th of the month.
Wipeout Contestant Dies – 'Wipeout' didn't kill Tom Sparks. The Idaho disc jockey died of a preexisting condition called APS which caused him to suffer a stroke after participating briefly on the physical game show. Sparks reportedly complained of knee pain after taking part in the first section of an obstacle course. Medics noticed he was short of breath and he was taken to a hospital shortly thereafter. 'Wipeout' participants undergo medical check-ups before going on the show, but diagnosing APS demands a specialized blood test that is not part of the standard procedure.
Gina Gershon – The two-part Lifetime movie 'Everything She Ever Wanted' hits the tube this weekend. Gershon plays Pat Allanson, the real-life devious Southern belle who snuck her way into marriage and killed off the extended family to procure its inheritance. Gershon tells Movieline of the the role: "She's clearly a sociopath, and she's operating by different emotional rules as a lot of sociopaths do. I found her whole way of reasoning – how she would feel or not feel – really fascinating." 'Everything She Ever Wanted' will air at 8 PM this Saturday and Sunday.
Chimp Lady Face – What is it about the grotesque that captivates us? Do we put ourselves in her place when we look at pics of Charla Nash? Do we want to know what it's like to live like her for a day? Does looking at her face make us realize the fragility of life? Or are our intentions of a more tawdry nature. Maybe Charla Nash makes us feel better about ourselves. Maybe we're just nosey.
