I watched the clip of Nash removing her veil and the only criticism I would give Oprah (and I am in no way a fan of Oprah) would be that she should have explained the ramifications of Nash revealing her face before the veil was removed. Perhaps Oprah had discussed that with Nash prior to taping but I believe it should have restated for the audience.

The audience was warned prior to the show.

I think Oprah did a wonderful job in what she does best. That woman has to live with that accident for the rest of her life. You look at burn victims and say oh poor man/woman. But a victim that gets her face ribed by an animal, you wanna say, "hey we should have been warned so that we could have turned our heads." that woman wanted to warn people about the conciquences of taking in a wild animal like a chimp and never expecting for nature to call upon it to act like the animal it is, "WILD". So shame on you for not letting Oprah help that woman in showing the world that they need to be careful about having "Wild" animals as pets in-stead of domesticated animals like cats, dogs, birds, and fish.

You think the audience should have been warned?!! This lady is going to be out in public, should people be warned before this lady goes out in public? The problem isn't Oprah or this woman's face, the problem is people. This lady went through a horrific ordeal and it is not her fault. This is the face she has now and if you don't like it that is your problem.

She did discuss the ramifications and Charla wasn't bothered by it.

I have always respected Oprah's integrity, but showing this young womans face went to far, there is such a thing as decency, and this over stepped the bounds.
As a nurse who has seen everything in my career, this was even to much for me.

If the guest on the show wanted to be shown, what's the problem? If it bothers you don't watch. At least people are aware of what can happen with wild animals, even though they think they're tamed.
It is what it is, and I think Oprah made a very good decision.

This is the face this woman is living with now.
Would you rather her curl up and die, or get out and live?
I think she's been thru enough, and I think she deserves to live her life.
She lived thru it, if it's too hard for me to look at, Well, I guess I'll just have to look the other way. Trust me, I can deal with it. Can You??? Nurse?

you are a nurse and you dare say it was to much for you to handle. Thats pathetic and mean. Bless this woman for the message she was sending regarding wild animals as pets and by showing her face on national tv, and Oprah for putting this message out.

Why? I don't understand why you feel this oversteps the bounds of decency. Could you please elaborate your view to me? And also, I'd like to ask if you think that if this lady had her own television show and chose to show her face without a veil, if she would be overstepping the bounds of decency by showing her face to the world...

You say "do you want her to curl up and die or just get on with life?" I want her to get on with life. It will be a difficult struggle for her. But she is so courageous, most of us would curl up and die. With the new healthcare bill people like this will be forced to curl up and die. And soon, when you reach the age of 65 or 70 (it seems far away when you are 26 or 30, but the years pass in the blink of an eye) you will have to curl up and die so the healthcare system won't have to bother with your aging problems.

so it's wrong?.....this woman has to go out in public everyday for the rest of her life. Are you suggesting that there is something wrong with the woman and she should recluse herself and not go into public because of a horrific accident. You need to re-evaluate your decency. This is a human being like you and I not a monster. Her face is her face. Just like people see your face they will see Ms. Nash's

Oprah did explain that Charla wanted to make sure the tabloids wouldn't make any money off of her injuries--thus, by showing herself first on public
television, there is no profit for ragsheets.
I work with disabled adults, and I did not find her "offensive" to look at at all. She has a sense of humor, and she has an important message to share.

If it were me, i would rather reveal my face on a show like oprah than to be stalked by the paparazzi trying to get that elusive shot! It seems many have forgotten that she is a human being and has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness or does that only apply to the pretty people(or rather what society deems as pretty)? She definitely has more courage and strength than any of us hiding behind our keyboards have!

If you are a nurse and this is too much for you, what kind of nurse are you? I am a nurse too, and have seen much worse than that. I feel that if this woman can live with it and her family can see her every day, we should shut up and accept her. She did not choose to have her face torn off. I am an animal lover, but agree that wild animals belong in the wild, not in homes or cages. God bless Charla for what she has done and what she goes through every day.

I think Oprah exploits and uses people. She is insensitive to the effects on the poor people who
are or were going thrue hell. Oprah runs her own freak show. It morally wrong to use other people to
serve your self.

Barbara, you must be a vary shallow nurse. I pity your patients. I cannot believe you did not see the incredible spirit within both women on that program. There was a warning at the start of the program, and you have the ability to turn off the TV, which is more than she could do. I don't appreciate your censoring something I found to be a victory of the "Spirit".

What a horrible excuse for a human being you are. I hope/pray neither myself nor any of my friends or relatives are ever entrusted to your 'care'. This woman, who against horrible odds, chooses to live her live and go on with what God has 'given' her. May God bless her. Would you be strong enough to do the same? Do all your 'patients' a favor...RETIRE!!

Charla WANTED her face to be seen so that people could see how dangerous exotic animals could be. It was done at her request. it was also done so that tabloids would stop trying to sneak in to the hospital and get the first picture. There was a bounty out on that first picture. Charla lived under police guard.

I don't get it! Nursing isn't about pretty. A basic fundamental aspect of being a nurse is cultural sensitivity and being non-judgemental. Psychosocial is a huge aspect of nursing care once you get the emergency care and the patient is stabilized. Show some sensitivity to this woman. Good for her that she wants to be seen and not hide. Shame on you for being a nurse. It is one thing if someone is not in the medical field and cannot handle this, but you Barbara say that you are a nurse. Are you a practicing nurse or do you just have a license?
