Brooke Shields Admits She Thought of Suicide During Post-Partum Depression
Brooke Shields has always been open about her struggle with post-partum depression, but the actress recently reveled more of her pain while receiving an honor at the Hope for Depression Research foundation.
Shields spoke of how, after giving birth to daughter Rowan in 2003, her battle lead her to suicidal thoughts,
PEOPLE reports.
"I should not exist. The baby would be better off without me. Life was never going to get better -- so I better just go," she remembers thinking.
Shields also emphasized the importance of getting help.
"We think and we feel that we should just be able to handle it on our own," she explains.
"I've always been strong enough to get through every single difficult situation in my life. I grew up in an addictive household. My mother [Teri] had acute alcoholism. It's in my blood. I was never going to be the one to succumb to it," she adds.
Shields eventually sought help from her doctor.
"I learned what was going on inside my body and what was going on inside my brain. I learned I wasn't doing anything wrong to feel that way. That it was actually out of my control."

HATS OFF TO YOUR BROOKE! Your open and honest and sought help! If only more people would be honest with themselves and seek help before it's too late!
True inspiration to us all! :-)

I didn't read this article but, this isn't news. She confessed to this i believe on the Oprah show a few years ago. She even admitted to one day slamming her car into a brick wall with her baby in the car. Good for her though that she's talking about it, keeping things bottled up inside will only make things worse.

This is old news about Brook. I am glad she's okay now, but why is it being repeated.

I am so glad that she got help. I have always liked Brooke.

I do not know who I am more sick of, Andre or Brooke. I do not feel sorry for them and they both are disgusting human beings.

So who hasnt thought about taking a dive once or twice... its life, most have the thoughts. My only regret is more people like Brook didnt actually do it and help rid the world of a little waste.

Hey Mike, If you think more people like Brooke should have followed through with their suicidal thoughts why don't you get the ball rolling? Obviously we don't need jerks like you around. Brooke, I'm glad you didn't pay any attention to the rants of Tom Cruise. Stay well girl!
Brooke- You Go Girl!

I had an ectopic pregnancy in 1990 and went through a deep and severe depression in the year that followed. Yes, suicide crossed my mind - this was a wanted child after years of an infetility work-up. Ms. Shields has always impressed me with her candor - until you experience psot-partum depression, you have no idea of the hurt and pain

She told this story a few years back and that is when Tom Cruise started on her about taking pills. But I am glad she got help.

I have been there with depression. Avoid the Long Island Jewish Adult Ambulatory clinic, they will make it worse than where you started out also avoid the doctors (neurology) one doctor botched my surgery, no one will touch me, they protect each other. There you are just a customer not a patient. While many hospitals are hurting for money, this conglomerate just keeps getting bigger!

Didn't your mothers ever tell you if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing. I can't believe how many hate mongers there are on these blogs. You probably are friendless and very unhappy - and full of hate. I'm so tired of people like you all.

wow again i am not surpirsed! people on here are just hurtful for no reason other than to lift themselves up. didnt any of you learn any manners or is this world so screwed up that it is okay to tell someone they should have killed themselves. would you say the same thing to your wife or sister?

I, too, have suffered from debilitating depression. If you haven't experienced it you have no idea how difficult and painful it can be. I applaud Brooke for being open and honest about her struggles. It helps the rest of us to know we aren't alone. also, for those who say that it's all in our heads and that we should just get over it--you need to learn more about the disease before you make a statement like that. Medication helped me immensely.

thats the way l feel about her, ... stars are often on a pedistal from their fans who they make movies for but they keep it very closed minded only to take the money & be mrs. private. (thats her depression, no magic pill cure, it's her lifesyle.)
