Susan Boyle Talks of Bullies and Beatings
Susan Boyle's unlikely success story just got even more amazing, with the revelation that she was beaten and bullied as a child.
"You're looking at someone who would get the belt every day," the 'Britain's Got Talent' star told the
Daily Mirror.
Boyle said she was tormented by classmates and beaten by teachers because of her learning disabilities. "I'm just a wee bit slower at picking things up than other people," she said. "So you get left behind in a system that just wants to rush on, you know? That was what I felt was happening to me."
"There was discipline for the sake of discipline back then," Boyle continued. "But it's all very different now. I think teachers are taught to understand children with learning disabilities a lot better."
She admitted that being bullied by her classmates was just as hurtful. "There's nothing worse than another person having power over you by bullying you and you not knowing how to get rid of that thing."
But for Boyle, music is "a complete emotional release" from thoughts of her troubled past. "I had a slight disability, but rather than let that rule my life I had to find my abilities and make the most of them instead," she said. "This feels like a good way of making up for that – a very, very enjoyable way of making up for it as well."
It's also turned out to be a very sucessful way of making up for it. Boyle's debut CD 'I Dreamed a Dream,' which releases on Monday, is already the most pre-ordered of all time.

i read the article on Susan Boyle. and i never knew she had a disability. i too had a disability, mine was hand eye co-ordination. as she said back then kids and teachers didn't know much about it. teachers especially. but as i grew older i was able to "get a handle on it. so hats off to Ms.Boyle for turnning to music as a realease. much success to her. in my opinion, (which doesn't matter these days) she should have won the contest but she will always be a treasure in my eyes.god blessd Susan Boyle now and un the future

I agree that Susan Boyle is a treasure! I was shocked and saddened when I heard Sharon Osbourne make fun of Susan's looks on a radio show just a week or so ago. I've always liked Sharon O and she had said that she herself was overweight and felt "not so attractive". Why then would she publicly say mean things about Ms. Boyle? I won't repeat the things she said, but, they were all mean and very hurtful. I felt like cringing. Sharon should be ashamed. On the other hand, Susan Boyle is making it despite the 'haters' and I am proud of her.
Sharon O is like the bullies she talked about. Insecure losers who try to build their self worth by attempting to crash someone else's. Sadly bullies to really have an age limit.
They say that the way to get revenge for abuse is to live a good life. Susan Boyle can feel confident that she has left the bullies, including teachers and Sharon Osborn, in her dust. You go girl!

It's very sad for me whenever I think about all
the hurtful things kids would say and do to me!

Those bullies are small themselves, and whatever they did to you is a reflection on them and how small they are feelingthe inside.
who really shives a git???

I do, for one. Unlike you I respect talent no matter from whom it spouts. As for you, take a look in a mirror and tell yourself what you have done to make this world a better place. My bet is that it would be zero. But that lady has talent that is heartfelt and wonderful. What is yours?
Apparently a lot of folks "shive a git", and that's why Susan Boyle will be laughing her arse all the way to the bank. You go girl!
I really like Susan Boyle on the show. She should have won. And Sharon Osbourne should be ashamed of herself for making such mean remarks about SB. She actually said that she was probably beaten with an ugly stick. What, did she ever take a good look at her kids. Osbourne sounds like she was a bully when she was a kid.

From everything I've heard and read the British educational system routinely uses corporal punishment and the parents expect it?

Susan:
You can't change the past, but you can change the future. Use your abilities and popularity from singing to help children TODAY cope with bullies. Ask around and find out ways to do this. You are such a beautiful person, I can't wait to purchase your CD; I didn't know it was realeased this week. Everyone has negative experiences in their past; the trick is to take a negative and use it for good in the future!!
