Nic Cage Talks to Pirates at Kenyan Jail
Nicolas Cage has visited a Kenyan prison holding suspected Somali
pirates awaiting trial to highlight the problem of piracy in the Indian Ocean. Inmates danced for the movie star and shook his hand as he toured the Shimo La Tewa prison in the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa. The prison has become a model for other jails in the country because of the reform work of its chief warden, Wanini Kireri.
Cage, a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador on Drugs and Crime, told The Associated Press Television News on Tuesday that he wanted to meet with some of the suspected Somali pirates, hear their stories and understand what is fueling piracy off the Somali coast.
"Then I'm in a position where I can actually make some sense and talk about it when I go back to the States where I go talk to different U.N. councils and discuss the matter," Cage said.

Cage also gave out awards during his Tuesday visit to wardens in recognition of their outstanding work. He left Kenya Wednesday.
Somali pirates are currently holding around a dozen ships and more than 200 crew, and attacks have increased in recent weeks as seasonal rains subsided.
On Wednesday, pirates attacked the Maersk Alabama for the second time in seven months, though private guards on board the U.S.-flagged ship repelled the attack with gunfire and a high-decibel noise device.
An international flotilla of warships now patrols the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden, but pirates continue to carry out attacks because of the millions of dollars that can be made from a successful hijacking.

Wow, Nic Cage looks like he has aged 30 years in the last decade.

He looks sooooo much better without the hairpiece.

Nic Cage wants to know why? It's easy: M O N E Y I know, it is a proverty striken area and that makes it alright to hi-jack ships and hold innocent people hostage. I say, if they want to be pirates, treat them like pirate of old, keel haul them and deny medical attention for a week. Bet that will put a real quick end to it. Either that or shoot them.

Wow, that man is beyond unattractive. I think he is trying to get the pirates to hook him up with some booty to pay off his tax bill! LMAO. I wish he would just go away.

What an idiot. Why would Cage be the one speaking to UN Councils? He's an ACTOR for Gods sake not a anti-terrorism expert!. Stick to movies Cage, leave the real world to others. On another note: A second shining example of the superiority of firepower in thwarting the second hijacking of the US flagged ship. You'd think everybody would see the wisdom of arming ships. Apparently it works. Hopefully they thinned the pirates out a little

Good email on Cage. Exactly what I wanted to say.
Another Terrorist bullS??t story,.... there are no Pirates,.... Johnny Depp is not playing this part anymore, but the US government loves to entertain you with fairytales.... this fake news articles purpose is to cover up the fact that corporations are Dumping, polluting and poisoning the the ocean and cosatal beaches in Somali and the People of Somali are sick and tired of it.

I'm glad Mr. Cage chose to discourse w/the suspects instead of shooting them. In spite of his many violent movies, Mr. Cage seems by this to be a kind and gentle Progressive, and we need more of this type on the big screen to help alert people to the fact that this "piracy problem" much like the terrorism issue is overblown by FOX News and Talk Radio. People like that create problems where there are none. I sure do hope Mr.Cage will do a movie, soon, about how these "pirates" have been wrongly prtrayed as lawbreaking individuals and also That Pres. Obama will go there and apologize for FOX News' wrong opnion of them.

Why do actors think so highly of themselves that they get involved in issues they have no business sticking their nose in? They are criminals and should be treated as such. They know what they did was wrong and should be punished like any other criminal regardless of their economic situation. Nick should act and pay his taxes. If he doesn't pay his taxes, let him visit with the pirates all he wants and share a jail cell with them.

Is the UN desperate for ambassadors? On crime and Drugs no less! Is this some kind of bad sick joke? Nic Gage owes millions to Taxes and doesn't have the brains nor the personality certainly not the education for the job. Wait! He has the experience with drugs. Sorry. No wonder the UN is a do nothing useless organization.

oh goody nic cage is going to fix the somali pirate problem - thank goodness he was available. just like when sean penn went to new orleans to save all the people in katrina because the government wasnt doing anything - took his little boat to new orleans, found a little film crew, sunk his little boat - did all sorts of good didnt you, sean? brad and angelina buying babies from all over the world? great trying to save the world one baby at at time. these hollywood idiots make me sick. they have a soap box every day of their lives and they do they waste it - absolutley waste it. tell me to drive a hybrid car while flying all over the world in their private planes (travolta). most of this idiots never even gradutated from high school let alone college and have the iq of congealed oatmeal, but because they make movies and are famous and on tv they are smarter than "regular" people? hey nic cage the somali pirates arent the ones in the movies and what the hll are you doing talking to anyone at the un? here's an idea - shut the hell up stop buying property you cant afford and pay your freaking taxes (like regualr folks) hollywood bunch of losers.

This just seems so odd. I do hope that celebrities that 'work' for the UN don't get paid. It should be like volunteer work.
Of course the UN loves to waste money, so...

That was pure sarcasm when I did that. I was trying to capture the weepiness of your average Dem. Sheesh.
