Listen to Vanessa Williams: Lay Off the Fake Botox
Vanessa Williams continues to lend her voice to the Dress For Success organization, benefiting disadvantaged women by donating clothing and giving them the tools to succeed in the competitive workplace. This time, Williams is spearheading the Express Success campaign with Allergan, the Botox makers who have donated $250,000 to the non-profit organization.
The
'Ugly Betty' star who is celebrating her 10th year with Dress For Success is frank about her alignment with Allergan as she doesn't hide the fact that her beauty queen looks have been enhanced by
Botox cosmetics. The former Miss America reveals, "Allergan knew that I used Botox since I was candid about it in interviews and they thought it was a great idea for me not only being a user but also someone that's been involved with Dress For Success for years."
She adds a word of advice: "In my first scene in Ugly Betty four years ago my character was injected with fake Botox by her assistant in her office which is something I do not recommend. I recommend everyone go to a doctor."
Living in Los Angeles, Williams has been to her fair share of Botox parties. However for those wishing to lend their support to Express Success, she says education is the priority. "There are no free Botox parties for people who get involved but the seminars we've had have answered and addressed their concerns that women might have."
Over the years Williams has donated clothing from her own fabulous wardrobe and helped to raise money by competing in rack relay races dressing mannequins against her own mother! Unfortunately she can't donate her designer duds from the popular show. She explains, "Most of the wardrobe I wear for 'Ugly Betty' is owned by ABC studios so I can't give any of that away. I can't even borrow that stuff so it's all from my personal collection but there's certainly plenty to give every year."
"I pretty much do it on a yearly basis," Williams says of donating clothes that she's outgrown or have worn for an appearance. "I keep the ones that I don't want to part with and get rid of the ones that don't work anymore.
"I'm not really a clothes horse," she admits, "So I don't have tons and tons of items that I'm holding onto. I borrow a lot of things from designers because once you wear something that's been photographed you don't really want to be seen it again."
