Taylor Swift Grabs AMA Artist of the Year from Michael Jackson

Taylor Swift tied Michael Jackson with the most wins at the 2009 American Music Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night, capping off a total of four wins with the biggest honor of the night, Artist of the Year.

Michael Jackson, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon were also nominated for the award.

In her acceptance speech, transmitted live from London where she was rehearsing for a performance Monday night, Swift paid tribute to Michael Jackson and thanked his family, particularly sister Janet Jackson, for their support.

As with all her wins of the night -- she also picked up Favorite Artist awards in both the Adult Contemporary and Country categories -- Swift was visibly shocked, and began her final acceptance speech by saying that music is "never about competition."

Swift's fourth award was in the Favorite Country Album category. Nominated for her second album, 2008's 'Fearless,' Swift beat out Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood.

Swift was nominated for six awards, but lost Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist to Lady Gaga, whose window-shattering, bottle-breaking, pyrotechnic performance of new single 'Bad Romance' was easily one of the standout performances of the night.

Michael Jackson also won four AMAs, setting a record for the most wins by any single artist and nabbing Favorite Pop/Rock Album from Swift. The late singer won Favorite Male Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories, as well as Favorite Album in the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories for 'Number Ones.' Jackson's brother Jermaine accepted the awards on his behalf.

As a devout Adam fan, it was heartwrenching when he fell, but he did recover, but I felt that he was nervous and being last probably didn't help his nerves. I felt terrible afterwards for him but he has so much talent, it was not showcased tonight. Saw him perform live on tour and he was AMAZING. Shame that his charisma and stage presence didn't show well tonight. Love you Adam.

OMG............Did Adam Lambert forget there were minors watching his performance! Hope his career isn't tarnished over it.

I think Adam's performance was so distasteful, clumbsy, and pathetic... and I liked Adam on American Idol. I was looking forward to hearing his song from 2012. OMG! Who planned the finale of the show? I think that Adam allowed someone to tell him how to market himself and Adam shouldn't have listened. Talent going to waste.

I totally agree. I have loved him since he first came on AI but after last nights performance......I was blown away. Not sure if I still want to be a fan or not. Some things just shouldn't be done on tv!! Very disturbing performance!! Almost made me sick...........so sorry for adam. I see a short career ahead for him.

I agree with you, what the heck was he thinking or was he thinking. I voted for him on AMI, he's so talented, there was no need for what he did. TV is not the place, maybe some little dark out of the way shack would be more to his liken. That was total out of line!

I have been a huge fan of MJ my entire life, but these were almost just like sympathy awards. If he was still alive he would clearly not be up for these awards. I mean no doubt he deserved to be nominated and win, but I don't know. Whatever.

I'm sorry Donna Taylor is a sweet young lady, but when is she going to grow up? All of theses fairy tale songs is just about to make people sick, and i have seen Taylor in concert, I felt sorry for her she was so flat she is better of keeping herself in the studio to record a song, thats the only way it sounds good is because studio recording always sounds better, Ansd there is no way possible that she could have beat out everyone like that? Go Figure, Her name is just being used and she is being pushed out there on people to sing about how her boyfriend done her wrong, being a band nerd, and being a fairy princes, Taylor please sweetie its time to grow up, put your cinderella story book away and sing about something that counts, Your not a child anymore, and all of this "oh look at me stuff is getting old.... Taylors mom Please let your child grow up and sing something other than what should be sung on the Disney Channel, she would make a good Disey singer, And dont get me wrong taylor is just ok she isn't good enough yet to be tied to the big name as MJ. but she will get there.
