Taylor Swift Grabs AMA Artist of the Year from Michael Jackson

Taylor Swift tied Michael Jackson with the most wins at the 2009 American Music Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night, capping off a total of four wins with the biggest honor of the night, Artist of the Year.

Michael Jackson, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon were also nominated for the award.

In her acceptance speech, transmitted live from London where she was rehearsing for a performance Monday night, Swift paid tribute to Michael Jackson and thanked his family, particularly sister Janet Jackson, for their support.

As with all her wins of the night -- she also picked up Favorite Artist awards in both the Adult Contemporary and Country categories -- Swift was visibly shocked, and began her final acceptance speech by saying that music is "never about competition."

Swift's fourth award was in the Favorite Country Album category. Nominated for her second album, 2008's 'Fearless,' Swift beat out Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood.

Swift was nominated for six awards, but lost Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist to Lady Gaga, whose window-shattering, bottle-breaking, pyrotechnic performance of new single 'Bad Romance' was easily one of the standout performances of the night.

Michael Jackson also won four AMAs, setting a record for the most wins by any single artist and nabbing Favorite Pop/Rock Album from Swift. The late singer won Favorite Male Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories, as well as Favorite Album in the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories for 'Number Ones.' Jackson's brother Jermaine accepted the awards on his behalf.

There you have it....The AMA totally sums up how this country thinks. Let's give awards away out of pitty....you have a guy who we disowned because of his little boy habbit, but he's dead now, so let's give him what we think he deserves.......and Taylor Swift....ok she is good, but not that good. Way to go America. The MTV awards was a total bait and switch. Her manager sold his soul to the devil the same day we decided to give MJ awards just after he died. Kieth Ledger all over again!

Pffft... I knew weeks ago MJ would sweep these awards, simpathy awards as a contributer put it above,, I tottaly agree.. 6 Months MJ was a PERVERT, lets hope God is as forgettfull as most of "his fans".

I agree, the MJ awards were sympathy and it goes to show the pointlessness of some of these award shows. I mean congrats to taylor swift but i don't listen to her and i don't know any one who does but obviously people do.

the only ama award MJ should have gotten was the Adolescent Molester Award lifetime achievement. after the mid/late 80s he was a big nothing with 1 flop after another. it is really touching that nobody has nothing nice to say about him until after he is dead. and he sure knows a lot about touching.
