Taylor Swift Grabs AMA Artist of the Year from Michael Jackson

Taylor Swift tied Michael Jackson with the most wins at the 2009 American Music Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night, capping off a total of four wins with the biggest honor of the night, Artist of the Year.

Michael Jackson, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon were also nominated for the award.

In her acceptance speech, transmitted live from London where she was rehearsing for a performance Monday night, Swift paid tribute to Michael Jackson and thanked his family, particularly sister Janet Jackson, for their support.

As with all her wins of the night -- she also picked up Favorite Artist awards in both the Adult Contemporary and Country categories -- Swift was visibly shocked, and began her final acceptance speech by saying that music is "never about competition."

Swift's fourth award was in the Favorite Country Album category. Nominated for her second album, 2008's 'Fearless,' Swift beat out Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood.

Swift was nominated for six awards, but lost Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist to Lady Gaga, whose window-shattering, bottle-breaking, pyrotechnic performance of new single 'Bad Romance' was easily one of the standout performances of the night.

Michael Jackson also won four AMAs, setting a record for the most wins by any single artist and nabbing Favorite Pop/Rock Album from Swift. The late singer won Favorite Male Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories, as well as Favorite Album in the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories for 'Number Ones.' Jackson's brother Jermaine accepted the awards on his behalf.

Get ur crap straight... just because he's dead doesn't mean he doesn't deserve these awards. Michael jackson shouldn't even be in the same category as Taylor Swift or any other artist. All those artists are inspired by him.

Taylor Swift is a JOKE! For them to give her the AMA Artist of the year to her and not Michael Jackson is very low and disrepectful. If Taylor Swift was a young black singer. You really think she would have received an award so big over Michael Jackson. Hell No! We live in a very racist world. God don't like ungly. That's why the US is suffering like it is now. Because, the country had so much trust in george bush. LOL! Where are the Nuclear Weapons? LOL! What a JOKE! The US don't even deserve Barack Obama. May God be with this wicked WORLD.

I'm Jewish, and I want to know why Taylor Swift didn't ever apologize for posing with the guy wearing the Swastika on his shirt. I guess WASPs can get a way with anything. She's a terrible singer, and she didn't deserve half those awards she got tonight. Her little girl fans are going to grow up and find somebody with some real talent soon enough.

What am I missing here? The headline reads Michael Jackson wins 4 out of 5 categories he was nominated for.

Then I seem to read Taylor Swift got 5 out of 6 she was nominated for.

When is the necessity to carry on the homage to MJ gonna end?

What a bunch of hypocrites! Nobody in the entertainment industry had anything good to say about Michael Jackson while he was alive. Now that he's dead they want to honor him with all these awards. All awards shows are BS.

They might as well just call it the sympathy awards. Who do we feel the most sorry for right now? MJ? give him a bunch of awards. Swift got embarassed in front of millions of people by a rapper? give her a bunch of awards.

Give me a break. No one even knew who she was before people started feeling bad about her due to the kanya thing, and MJ never won crap in past years I'm sure.

If Michael Jackson hadn't passed away, would this even be a story? Taylor would have won regardless. I was a huge MJ fan back in the day but that was back in the day - Taylor deserves it and should be proud of her success.
