Adam Lambert Mixes Humility and Brashness
Adam Lambert knows how to make a splash. With his debut album, 'For Your Entertainment,' out on Tuesday, "Glambert" has already got everybody talking over
his sexually-charged 'American Music Awards' performance from Sunday. But for all his poise and obvious confidence, Lambert can still be blown away by the places his career takes him.
Take tomorrow for instance, when Lambert will be in New York to celebrate the album's release with a special appearance. "I'll be preparing for a talk show experience on '
David Letterman,' which is like totally surreal and amazing," he tells PopEater. "I'm going to be nervous as hell. Hopefully I'll get through it."
As far as amazing moments go, few can surpass the time Lambert performed with members of
Queen on '
American Idol.' "When I was on stage with them at the 'Idol' finale with
Kris [Allen] and we sang 'We Are the Champions' I was like, 'This is not really happening right now. I think I'm dreaming,'" he recalls. "It was so surreal."
Lambert, who seems totally nonplussed by all the insanity surrounding him, brings just the right mix of humility and brashness to everything he does. Confident and poised, he remains enough of a fan to be suitably modest at the thought of Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen wanting to collaborate with him again. "To get their approval and praise feels really good," Lambert says.
He brought that same sensibility to 'For Your Entertainment.' Working with a who's who of music producers and songwriters like
Lady Gaga,
Weezer's
Rivers Cuomo and producer
Max Martin, Lambert still infused the album with his own persona. "I think the great thing is I was able to give my two cents and give my opinions," he says. "Both in the vocal performance and even in some of the production, I got to sit down and say, 'Hey, can we try this?' Everybody was completely facilitating and really willing to experiment. They truly are examples of teamwork and collaboration."

Adam was and still is a greatly talented guy. I loved him on American Idol and still do, however...his Performace was disapppointing and sadly to say, IN YOUR FACE disgusting to me. He is a musical and theatric genious whom does not need to take the low road like so many others have. He is a proud gay man, that does not to need to resort to this type of show that young children were exposed to. Please Adam, just sing and be wonderful.

Ohhhhhh, ADAM! How COULD you? We rallied the troops for you with American Idol. We speed dialed your number infinite times to get you votes. We even pre-ordered your album from Amazon. And you do THIS? All your God-given talent, smoldering good looks and bright future are dust. Whoever wrote and choreographed that routine is NOT your friend. Fire them and get back on track. Apologize to America and move on.
He showed NO CLASS AFTER THAT I DONT CARE IF HE MAKES IT OR NOT. If he thought that was GOOD, The die must be sinking to his brain. I think that was the worst video i ever saw. ABC should be ashamed of that kind of stuff the world has enough problems u CANT solve, but the COULD of solved that one. Adam get a NEW manager dude yours SUCKS.

So what did you say about the female performer who pulled this same sort of thing. You said nothing because your tongue was hanging too far out your mouth.
As a gay male Adam really crossed line (sexuality aside). There were young kids up to see his performance, and I can see why the parents would be disgusted. As I'm sitting here watching "good monring america" it was just announced that ABC has cancelled his GMA concert this morning due to his AMA performance on Monday! Clean it up Adam! America is not sitting back anymore!! You have a great voice and awsome talent use it wisely.

I believe in second chances. That said, I gave it to him by watching his interview and performance on The Early Show. When he said, "I'm not a babysitter," I knew then that I had wasted my time. There was absolutely no contrition or remorse. He believes what he did was right and there's nothing that's going to change his mind -- unless a lack of record sales would get to him. Unfortunately, there are those perverts out there that would buy it no matter what.
It's too bad he didn't have more respect for the fans that put him where he is. Surely, he had to have known there would be young people watching his debut performance. The same young people that voted week after week for him to win American Idol, and then begged their parents to let them stay up late to see him perform.
What I found to be even more disgusting is that his own mother condoned it. GAG!!

How do you call someone who purchases a CD a pervert! First off, You could have changed the channel if you didn't like what you were watching, there are at least 299 others to chose from im sure, second off, if you have a child under the age of oh let's say 18 he / she should not have been watching "adult" television or television for that matter at 11pm at night, needless to say on a Sunday / school night! and third off maybe if you listened to the song or read the lyrics before watching the performance, you might have known what to expect the song was about or what to expect from the performance . . .
I'm loving his CD, his music is not all about just a song with sexual lyrics. Too bad that one performance has caused such a shock that people are writing him off. Your loss. I prefer to remain open to possibilities of what else he displays with his songs.
Having heard the lyrics, the behavior went right along with the song, and if you think it was all his idea on AMA, think again After hearing his FYE album, I realize that his talent surpasses anyone heard in recent years. I think he realizes the performance was a mistake, but after seeing all the performers, was his showing so much more outrageous? Moving on, his album will be a icon for what he is about. OK, he was definitely outrageous, but moving on, it was just a showing. Not a deal breaker. I'm enjoying the journey of Adam Lambert for bringing in spectacular vocals and wondering what's next.

It will take at least 20 performances like the one on David Letterman's and Ellen 's show before mainstream people and big event organizers can trust Adam again... No matter what Adam says about artistic integrity, he breached the trust of ABC by giving a show that was different from the final approved rehearsals...
Saying that he was "in the moment" on stage sounds too weak, he seemed too grounded, calculated and humble "off-stage" ...
At least at Ellen's show he admitted that he "maybe" went too far during the AMA's and in another interview he admitted that he should be more consistent between the final rehearsed version and the actual performance.
I am not really mainstream, I will still buy his CD (if I can) but I am not sure anymore whether I would attend any of his live performances... Maybe after 20 performances a la Ellen's...
