'Jon and Kate' Say Goodbye in TLC Finale
By PopEater Staff Posted Nov 24th 2009 07:30AM
Although 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' aired its final episode on Monday, Kate Gosselin admits it could have been avoided. "I feel like it's been taken from us, from me and the kids," she said about the TV series that ended this week after five seasons due to the disagreements between she and estranged husband Jon Gosselin. The hour mixed direct-to-camera, separate interviews with both parents. Kate called the series' end "needless. It's useless, it's totally avoidable. ... This is a very bittersweet goodbye for me because the kids are already missing it."
In a separate response, Jon told the camera, "Our marriage fell apart and I felt like I was free. And I kinda took advantage of it for a while and didn't really think about my actions, obviously, until I started getting paparazzi and written about. But that's maturing. That's growing up."
The show came to a somewhat abrupt close in the wake of squabbling and scandals that not only tainted the show's previously wholesome atmosphere, but also halted any filming of the children several weeks ago.
During the series' final hour, the young twins and sextuplets toured a fire station with their dad near the family home in Wernersville, Pa. Then, with Kate, they visited a local dairy farm, for what she emotionally noted was the series' last shoot.
Those were the sort of heartwarming activities that had won 'Jon & Kate' a devoted following when it premiered two years ago. But the show fell apart after the Gosselins announced their split in June and became battling tabloid fixtures.
A plan announced by TLC early this fall called for 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' to segue into 'Kate Plus Eight,' a series that would have concentrated on the kids and their newly single mom, with Jon Gosselin taking a much-reduced role. But that plan was apparently torpedoed by his objections to having the children displayed on TV any longer. They have not been filmed since.
According to Jon's his attorney Mark Heller, "Jon impressively put the best interests of his children above all and was extremely appropriate in his approach to the mediation. As a result of that, it came to a successful resolution."
On Saturday, the couple met for more than six hours at a law office in the Philadelphia suburbs to discuss unresolved marital issues, including custody of their eight children and the distribution of marital property. Heller said an arbitrator will rule by Christmas and that the divorce could be finalized by the close of 2009.
Heller declined to comment on the terms of the divorce. As for the roses Jon allegedly offered Kate? Heller said his client brought them "as a peace offering to try to melt down the freeze that he perceives to be coming from the other side."
There was no comment Monday from the attorney for Kate Gosselin.
And as for her television future in lieu of 'Kate Plus Eight,' TLC has said it is now focusing on the launch of a series in which she would star, scheduled to premiere next spring. The network has offered no details on what kind of show it might be.

Kate could have been classy on this last but again she had to take digs at Jon and his reason for the fire depot. She was just pissed she didn't think of it. And "her" kids were so enthused at the farm. Taking that bunch of kids on an open paved road was a real smart move. They were thrilled about that too... I am going to miss those sweet little ones. I looked forward to their smiles every week they were on. Kate says she will not bash Jon to the kids but this "my" kids goes a long way to suggest it will be dug in there. When have they ever been her kids. I have looked at the past episodes for the differences and it looks like Jon still gets the majority of hugs and kisses. After all, look back and see how she would sit in the garage and give him orders to play with the kids. He seemed to enjoy until it became his major duty while miss queen bee watched from her throne.
I agree about Kate, but I don't feel sorry for Jon at all. They both let the fame get the best of them. And why didn't they try to fix it? 8 kids and they just end it,I don't get it??
I hope he keeps up with his child support for 8 kids or maybe he can do his own series "Jon no Kate just new cellmates"

". . .between she and estranged husband. . ." Your grammar is atrocious.

Idiot ! how is that for grammer ?
The kids only miss it because they have had the camera shoved up their noses since they began crawling. Even children removed from the most abusive families miss the parents, so shall these children miss the cameras. When they are older they will see how that ruined the family. These parents need to focus on getting a real job that does NOT involve sensationalizing their children. It's good that it ended before the pre-teen and teen years so they do not end up with 8 children who end up like Jack and Kelli Osborne. The difference with them is that the parents really CARE about them and love them and could help them through it. I honestly do NOT believe these children matter to Jon OR Kate. They became poker chips and pawns. Unfortunately, now, they are just object to bicker over with their attorneys. Sad

Does this also apply to all of the other families that have their kids on TV? Table for 12, the Duggars etc?
I do not agree with sticking cameras in a home for the purpose of entertainment when it affects children. Children grow up with enough issues like feeling stupid if they fall in the mall and 10 people see them, but when a camera focuses on every little thing, imagine how that must feel? Think about the most embarrassing thing that ever happened?? NOW, imagine that was caught on film and viewed over and over because your PARENTS wanted to make money? Just not right
Thank God for the end of Jon & Kate, I'm sick to death of their crap. good riddens.

Jon needs to get a job and support his kids like real men do....he seems totally unconcerned rather they lose the house or the bills get paid. A GOOD FATHER would secure their future BEFORE he kicked their livlihood in the face. He is just dumb!

IF YOU FOLLOWED THE NEWS, YOU WOULD OF SEEN THE CHILDREN BEING CONTROLLED BY KATE'S MOUTH, SHE'S ONE MEAN MOTHER, SHE NEVER SHOWED RESPECT FOR JON NOR THE CHILDREN, IT WAS ALL AN ACT TO KATE FOR THE MONEY, THAT'S ALL KATE FOCUSED ON, THE MONEY, JON CONCERN FOR THE CHILDREN IS REAL, KATE SAID THIS ON THE SHOW OVER A HUNDRED TIMES, KATE SAID IN HER LAST SHOW, IT'S ALL ABOUT HER BOOK SIGNING. THAT JON TOOK CARE OF THE CHILDREN FOR MONTHS. IT'S A SHAME WHEN PEOPLE WATCH THE SAME PROGRAM, AND CHANGE WHAT KATE SAYS, KATES WORDS, ARE AS SHE SAID, ALL ABOUT MONEY, THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME SHE CRIED, LOOKED FAKE TO MILLIONS,AS SHE TALKED ABOUT THE CHILDREN. YOU CAN SEE SHE GOT PISSED THAT JON WON'T BE HER FULLTIME BABYSITTER.....TLC DID THE RIGHT THING TAKING KATE OFF THE AIR,,,THEY COULD SEE IT WASN'T GOOD FOR THE CHILDREN AND JON...SHE WAS MEAN TO THE CHILDREN,WHICH VIEWERS DON'T NEED TO WITTNESS ON THE TV ANYMORE, NOT GOOD FOR GOOD PARENTS OUT THERE TO SEE..........
Definitely! It's not like that is a small household. 8 kids are involved. That takes a lot of money. No matter what anyone says about the show, I think it was def the best thing they had going as far as being able to give those children a life where they had the opportunity to see all kinds of things in life. Families with even smaller numbers can't even afford to do those things. I just hope that everything works out for the best. I was really looking forward to another series with just Kate and the kids...I guess not.
Why should she get custody of these kids? I am a single male parent and do just fine without a female present. Do not let this money seeking witch have any control over these children.
John - that's great that you are a single male parent; sounds like you grew up when you became a father. All of Jon's actions show that he hasn't and that he resents being held back by being a father to 8 kids.
Way to go Kate plus 8 children! We love you all! I hate that the show ended...that was nice of Kate saying thank you to everyone at the end. We look forward to you all again soon. That's a beautiful picture of the whole family.

Wow, I guess you forgot that Jon would've had to sign the contract for the show in the first place... If he didn't think it was a good idea then, maybe he should've grown some balls and said so.....
Good bye and good riddance. Now how long is it going to take before they ride off into the sunset and out of the public eye?

Good that they are fading away. Now we need to slap TLC for being stupid enough to give these people air time. The FCC is almost non-existent regarding quality of television programming. What are we paying for?
