'Jon and Kate' Say Goodbye in TLC Finale

Although 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' aired its final episode on Monday, Kate Gosselin admits it could have been avoided. "I feel like it's been taken from us, from me and the kids," she said about the TV series that ended this week after five seasons due to the disagreements between she and estranged husband Jon Gosselin. The hour mixed direct-to-camera, separate interviews with both parents. Kate called the series' end "needless. It's useless, it's totally avoidable. ... This is a very bittersweet goodbye for me because the kids are already missing it."

In a separate response, Jon told the camera, "Our marriage fell apart and I felt like I was free. And I kinda took advantage of it for a while and didn't really think about my actions, obviously, until I started getting paparazzi and written about. But that's maturing. That's growing up."

The show came to a somewhat abrupt close in the wake of squabbling and scandals that not only tainted the show's previously wholesome atmosphere, but also halted any filming of the children several weeks ago.

During the series' final hour, the young twins and sextuplets toured a fire station with their dad near the family home in Wernersville, Pa. Then, with Kate, they visited a local dairy farm, for what she emotionally noted was the series' last shoot.

Those were the sort of heartwarming activities that had won 'Jon & Kate' a devoted following when it premiered two years ago. But the show fell apart after the Gosselins announced their split in June and became battling tabloid fixtures.

A plan announced by TLC early this fall called for 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' to segue into 'Kate Plus Eight,' a series that would have concentrated on the kids and their newly single mom, with Jon Gosselin taking a much-reduced role. But that plan was apparently torpedoed by his objections to having the children displayed on TV any longer. They have not been filmed since.

According to Jon's his attorney Mark Heller, "Jon impressively put the best interests of his children above all and was extremely appropriate in his approach to the mediation. As a result of that, it came to a successful resolution."

On Saturday, the couple met for more than six hours at a law office in the Philadelphia suburbs to discuss unresolved marital issues, including custody of their eight children and the distribution of marital property. Heller said an arbitrator will rule by Christmas and that the divorce could be finalized by the close of 2009.

Heller declined to comment on the terms of the divorce. As for the roses Jon allegedly offered Kate? Heller said his client brought them "as a peace offering to try to melt down the freeze that he perceives to be coming from the other side."

There was no comment Monday from the attorney for Kate Gosselin.

And as for her television future in lieu of 'Kate Plus Eight,' TLC has said it is now focusing on the launch of a series in which she would star, scheduled to premiere next spring. The network has offered no details on what kind of show it might be.

Hurray! Caput, fini, all over with, done, stuck a fork in it. Please, please tell me this is true and that we never have to hear about Jon and Kate plus 8 again...I couldn't be happier. Now that they are off TV would it be possible to not see their names or faces in People, Us, ET, or any other form of media? Realistically, probably not.

Bob How can you take on such a superior air for critisizing a show that you never "lowered your bar" to watch even one episode? If it is that unimportant to you, why would you waste your time reading these posts and even making one of your own about something you have never even seen.

Finally, a happy ending for viewers!! Now if the magazines would quit fixating on them, they might just go away once and for all. I feel sorry for the kids. Now without cameras to film Kate, they'll be stuck in the house all the time because she'll never do anything with them.

I never knew the show existed until Jon & Kate started falling apart. Now, I could almost puke every time I hear their names. Just go away! Raise your own kids on your own dime - like most of us have had to do.

When speaking about ones children parents frequently refer to them as “my kids”.
In most families one parent is usually the disciplinarian.
Although Kate was a bit much, Jon was a bit weak. Jon was treated like a child because he acted like one. Parents together need to keep control. They both needed to change their ways and still do. They’ve both made mistakes. Hope one of them stays home to be with the children and one gets a real job to support them. Wishing those beautiful children a good life.

Please..Give me a breat.."The kids already miss it". The only thing that couple is going to miss is the money they made off thier kids by doing the show. Now mabe the kids can take a break. Can we all say "Dont let the door hit you in the Ass Jon and Kate"

THANK GOD!! They're both idiots and don't deserve their own show! They're both using their kids for fame and Jon is using the kids to get back at Kate by hiding behind the guise of a father concerned about his kids being filmed. BULLSH*T. He just wanted to stop Kate from being filmed! They both make me sick. GOOD RIDDENCE!!! TLC CAN FINALLY CUT THEIR LOSSES AND MOVE ON TO SOME OTHER INNOCENT FAMILY AND EXPLOIT THEM!!!

Great news. Enough is enough! We keep reading about these people for some odd reason and I know I'd rather not see any more pictures or stories about them. Time to move on to something else and let the children grow up without the exploitation and with parents who must learn again to love them more than Jon and Kate have grown to adore their celebrity status with all of the attention, if that's possible.

Kate Gosselin is a BI**H she treated Jon like one of the kids belittling him every chance she could, and that hair of hers it look like it was cut with a weed wacker !!!!!! She is sad because she can't exploit those 8 kids for money anymore I am glad Jon put a stop to that, who I feel sorry the the kids they don't deserve either one for parents !!!!!! People keep saying its all Jon's fault but she is I think more to blame than he is if she would have not acted like she did to him on and off camera maybe they would still be together !!!!!

Jon and Kate plus 8 was one of the best shows. I have watched them since day 1 and to see it end is heart breaking. I despise Jon. He is a horrible dad who deserves to rot. Kate,you and the kids should get your own show, I would watch every episode. GOD BLESS KATE PLUS 8, SCREW JON! AND BY THE WAY THE REST OF YOU ARE ALL HATERS.

It sounds like you really need to invest all that energy in a family that you actually know or belong to. To be so emotionally involved w/ a family that doesn't give a flip about you is really unnatural.

I don't see any intelligence or true concern from Jon "Gross"elin at all. He's made it perfectly clear who's best interest he has at heart....his own. I was disgusted with his behavior on the final show last night. He lashed out at the twins like a child for remarking they liked activities better with their mom. I've said it before, his kids are more mature and intelligent than he is. Kate and the kids are the only things that validate him, otherwise he's nothing. He's trash. Seriously, I used to really like the guy and didn't care for Kate at all... I actually sympathized with Jon when Kate would embarrass him on the show....but I guess she had to keep the "9th" child in line. His segments on the show are boring, he doesn't speak well and truthfully he has nothing interesting or intelligent to share. BYE Jon "Gross"elin. Kate....I really hope to see more of you and the kids if it's possible.

The Kids are what's important and they seemed to love going on all the adventures the show took them on- too bad they couldn't continue because the parents can't grow up. I enjoyed the show. Cute kids!!

There's nothing I love better than series finales of shows I truly hate. It brings me closure to a moment in my life where I really hate the world. I never watched JK8, if barely once, which equaled up to only 10-15 minutes spread out through 3 or 4 shows. If you really want to please haters, and old time TV watchers who hate shows like JK8, end JK8 the way the old soap opera, SEARCH FOR TOMORROW ended. Kate could ask the interviewer, you know what I'm searching for? Interviewer: What? Kate: Tomorrow. And I can't wait. And from there, roll credits and play whatever music SEARCH FOR TOMORROW used when they rolled their final credits.
