'Jon and Kate' Say Goodbye in TLC Finale

Although 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' aired its final episode on Monday, Kate Gosselin admits it could have been avoided. "I feel like it's been taken from us, from me and the kids," she said about the TV series that ended this week after five seasons due to the disagreements between she and estranged husband Jon Gosselin. The hour mixed direct-to-camera, separate interviews with both parents. Kate called the series' end "needless. It's useless, it's totally avoidable. ... This is a very bittersweet goodbye for me because the kids are already missing it."

In a separate response, Jon told the camera, "Our marriage fell apart and I felt like I was free. And I kinda took advantage of it for a while and didn't really think about my actions, obviously, until I started getting paparazzi and written about. But that's maturing. That's growing up."

The show came to a somewhat abrupt close in the wake of squabbling and scandals that not only tainted the show's previously wholesome atmosphere, but also halted any filming of the children several weeks ago.

During the series' final hour, the young twins and sextuplets toured a fire station with their dad near the family home in Wernersville, Pa. Then, with Kate, they visited a local dairy farm, for what she emotionally noted was the series' last shoot.

Those were the sort of heartwarming activities that had won 'Jon & Kate' a devoted following when it premiered two years ago. But the show fell apart after the Gosselins announced their split in June and became battling tabloid fixtures.

A plan announced by TLC early this fall called for 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' to segue into 'Kate Plus Eight,' a series that would have concentrated on the kids and their newly single mom, with Jon Gosselin taking a much-reduced role. But that plan was apparently torpedoed by his objections to having the children displayed on TV any longer. They have not been filmed since.

According to Jon's his attorney Mark Heller, "Jon impressively put the best interests of his children above all and was extremely appropriate in his approach to the mediation. As a result of that, it came to a successful resolution."

On Saturday, the couple met for more than six hours at a law office in the Philadelphia suburbs to discuss unresolved marital issues, including custody of their eight children and the distribution of marital property. Heller said an arbitrator will rule by Christmas and that the divorce could be finalized by the close of 2009.

Heller declined to comment on the terms of the divorce. As for the roses Jon allegedly offered Kate? Heller said his client brought them "as a peace offering to try to melt down the freeze that he perceives to be coming from the other side."

There was no comment Monday from the attorney for Kate Gosselin.

And as for her television future in lieu of 'Kate Plus Eight,' TLC has said it is now focusing on the launch of a series in which she would star, scheduled to premiere next spring. The network has offered no details on what kind of show it might be.

If you watch the episode you can see how affected the kids are already its pretty sad they need to stop for the sake of those children

Sorry - Jon was nauseating! He talked about growing up and Hailey, etc... What a jerk! I hope Kate gets her own show. Those kids will miss the show and the opportunities they had to do things that they normally wouldn't on a nurses and IT person's salary. Contrary to popular belief, I think they will eventually resent their father for doing this to them.

Jon came off looking exactly what he is ..a selfish jerk! His T- shirt was disgusting...his attitude was selfish as usual and his phony publicity stunt about raising money was so phony a kid could see through it! I thought he was drunk and ill mannered with his kids..Kate on the other hand was a lady who was hurting, handled herself with class and I wish her and the kids the best.

The scene where Jon threw his little hissy fit and sent the twins to their room showed his true character. He didn't discipline them when they were throwing markers and whining. Only when they said they liked to do things with Kate did he act like a 6 year old himself. He isn't fit to be a "person", much less a responsible parent. While Kate didn't behave very well on numerous occasions during the series, I am astounded that people coouldn't see how immature Jon was and how difficult it had to be to deal with a "big" kid when she already had to parent the other 8.

I wish Kate the best. She may have angered some, but I feel now the pressure she has endured justifies her actions. I just wonder how Jon will be able to support the home and child support for Kate and the children, he surely can't cramp his style at this point, Oh yeh, Jon doesn't have a job! For someone who didn't want media attention, he has shined for every camara there is. As for his roses, he knows where they belong.

I'm kind of interested to see how both of them are going to handle NO PAPPARAZZI, NO CAMERAS, NO FAME, NO NOTHING !!! Who do you think is going to make the biggest fool of themselves trying to grab back some of that 15 minutes of "fame" ? My vote is Jon. He really and truly thinks he is some kind of stud muffin celebrity...if it was not so funny, I might even feel a little sorry for the guy...

To the children...I think you are absolutely adorable and I hope you have wonderful, productive, NORMAL lives from now on.

Jon is immature and not husband material and barely father material. A wife should not have to tell a husband what needs to be done. A man would know what to do and do it. Bravo to Kate for a new show for her. Jon needs to get a job. He is the one who has spend all of their money on tramps and will have no money to pay child support, unless his rich teenage girlfriends pay it for him. He robbed their bank account dry. Spending money like crazy on trips and gifts. He is a poor excuse for a father and I pity any woman/girl that is stupid enough to follow him around.

I watched the show until I fell asleep. What I noticed was how mature Kate seemed while Jon seemed sweaty and manic. I didn't know if he was high or in the middle of a manic episode. Something is wrong with him. She and the kids are better off without him. They will survive.

Shame on Jon is all I can say! He looks like a fool! I enjoyed every single episode with those darling kids. How can people be so harsh on these blogs, they are a beautiful family. As for Kate, I think she did a great job of following through on everything she set our to do. She kept their home clean and organized. The children were fed well. Unforttunately most average size families don't do these tasks well. God Bless her and the children

John is a baby and needs to grow up! So how is he going to support himself? Is he paying child support? It will be up to Kate to work, write books, etc. to support herself and the children. Kate should have talked nicer to John at times but with all those children someone had to be organized to avoid chaos and it certainly was not John. It was almost like he didn't know what to do at times had it not been for Kate. I wish Kate and the children all the best! I hope something happens to John in the future to make him wonder what he did and to realize what he has lost!!!!!!!

Jon to me was borderline retarded. He was such a friggin mope, I couldn't see how Kate would even be interested in him. Then, she opened her mouth. She belittled him as often as possible, biched at him and made him look like a fool. I think they should really stay together, because no self-respecting human being would want either one! God bless the kids. I hope they will be ok, despite all this nonsense. That's what it is...NONSENSE!

I watched the show last night. And can't believe how rude Jon was with the children. He got made when they was making the posters and Mady said " i like what we do with mom better " and he told her to get up from the table and go inside...and at the firehouse the lil ones was just standing by the wall drinkin their lemonaid while their dad did everything...he is such an ass....

I love how people keep twisting why Jon sent the twins away. They were arguing over markers. One of them stated she thought the mother had more. Not that she liked Mommy's activities better. They wanted to finish the posters. Their behavior over the markers I would have sent them to the corner as well.

I may have cancelled the whole shebang had there not been a babysitter available to watch.

You are a bunch of Jon haters. You know he's been saying since the first season ended he wanted the show to end before it effected the kids negatively.

I think when the kids look back at everything they will be spitting fire at their mom for treating their dad like a toe rag.

They will decide for themselves. It's just funny to me, that Jon did something nice with the kids and Kate always thinks there is alternative motives.

Really, and there was no alternative motive to the farm? I think there was publicity for that farm.

I think all of you people are just very jealous, Why would any of you wish harm on either parent. Those children enjoyed playing with the crew. The cameras werent push uder there noses.Shame on some of you.I guuess some of you thought Adam Lambert performance was good. Good Luck to Kate and the children. Jon take the kids to the fire station to sell lemondae and raise money for the vol. fire dept...Kate drags 6 5 years olds down the road for a mile walk to a farm being followed by cameras..but she questions Jon's motives...LOL she's so pathetic its laughable.. Jon treats the kids like kids and pretty much reacts the way most parents do. He's not perfect but the kids do love him and they interact with him naturally, and affectionatelly. You never see tht with Kate. That kind of bond just isn't there. With Kate there just isnt anything spontaneous and thats very telling. Jon as the single parent raising the kids would be interesting because he was the one doing it anyway by Kates on admission.She was gone most of the time leaving the kids with Jon and the nannies.
