'Guido'-Touting MTV Show Has Italian Group Molto Mad

With muscle-shirts, fist-pumping and drunken spray-tanned buffoonery aplenty, MTV's 'Jersey Shore' reality show has one Italian-American group up in arms over the way the show is being promoted. Calling the show "trash television," the group UNICO is taking offense to MTV's tout of the show featuring the "hottest, tannest, craziest Guidos" and wants the show canceled. The show, which documents the hard-partying lifestyle of the shore towns along the New Jersey Coast, features young revelers -- many of them Italian-American -- doing what many do down the Jersey Shore: Drink, party, hook up and act in a way that would make their grandmother's blush. Or, as MTV puts it, people who "keep their hair high, their muscles juiced and their fists pumping all summer long."

Unico president Andre DiMino told the Associated Press that 'Jersey Shore' is nothing shy of "trash television."

'Shore' is scheduled to debut on December 3, and MTV has yet to respond to the claims or make any changes to the schedule.

On its Web site, MTV describes the show as uncovering the "sometimes surprising, often hilarious and usually over-the-top personalities as they juggle work, love, nightlife, friendship and the drama that ensues. In the end, viewers see that there is more to these tan and buff individuals than hair gel..."

This wouldn't be the first time that MTV has cashed in on the shenanigans that happen in South Jersey. Years ago, their 'True Life' documentary series took to the beach to show the stories of several shore-goers in 'True Life: I Have a Summer Share,' referring to those who rent out New Jersey beach houses for the summer. Growing up and living here in NYC, Italians are the very first people to shoot off the word
"N-gg-r" and "Jew" at the drop of a hat. So if they find it offensive to be called "Guido", they should learn not to be hypocrites and use them sort of references toward other people.

I don't watch any trash on MTV. Why do they even call it MTV? They don't show music videos anymore. It's all crap. Who cares? The Guidos like the way they look...ridiculous!! Guys that wax their brows and put so much tanner on that they look like oompa loompas with their douce capes muscle shirts. And don't get me started on the whores that hang on their arms.

What's the big deal? If you can't make fun of your own, then you are hiding your head in the sand. It's okay if Sharpton, Jackson and their black racist friends jump at any occasion to yell racist, and they cause problems. Look what they did to Imus, who is an entertainer and is known to do annoying things, but he is educated and an entertainer, so GET OVER IT. Snooki is not even a real guidette. She is not even close to 100% Italian, if she even is at all. She is not from Jersey Shore either. This is someone my friend knows personally, so i can only imagine that the others are fakers also. The fact that MTV is making a show making fun of Italians with people who are not even Italian is absolutely ridiculous. They should be called clubheads,or better yet idiots because thats what these people are.

THANKK YOU me=)!! I am 10000% ITALIAN and I couldn't agree w/ you more! If "Snookie" is not truly Italian it makes her appearence on the show all that more disgraceful because she is acting like a total ruthless empty headied idiot all the while claiming to be a total "Guidette". Well I AM 10000% ITALIAN (and so are my kids) SOOOO no I am not offended by the shows use of the terms "guido or guidette" as a matter of fact my husband is a "guido". However they act foolishly, making the "guido/guidette" sterotype more predominite. And when Nicole was quoted on TMZ saying "F*&K UNICO" that was BAD, VERY VERY BAD.
UNICO was created to uphold the traditions and customs and culture of Italy in America for the Italians residing in NJ and for Nicole to say that only makes me question how much of a "true" Italian is she? (just bc your last name ends in a vowel and you have a accent and talk w/ your hands and poof your hair...know what I mean?) Nicole, if your heritage means anything to you, I think you should seriously apologize to UNICO.
