It's still not clear if the world will ever let Zac Efron move on from his 'High School Musical' days. While we ponder this question, Efron found some serious kindred spirits working on his latest movie 'Me & Orson Welles.' His co-star Claire Danes and director Richard Linklater are still breaking away from their teen-favorite cult hits as well. "We all were involved in these teen cult phenomenons," Danes said at a press event for 'Welles,' speaking next to her-heart-throb co-star Efron. "It's a surprising thing to have in common."So while the three are promoting a movie about Orson Welles' 'Julius Ceasar' triumph on the Broadway stage, they are well aware that every journalist wants to talk about dancing with basketballs or awkward teen moments. "People invariably ask me about 'My So Called Life,'" says Danes. "That's where people learned about me. (Linklater) was like, 'Don't worry, it's the same for me and 'Dazed and Confused.'' And Zac, I am sure, will be followed for 'High School Musical' for the rest of his life."
Efron says he was loving seeing established pros like Linklater being asked about his groundbreaking first project, no matter how dated.
"It's been great to see Rick (Linklater) have to handle every single person coming into the room saying 'I loved Dazed and Confused.' " Efron laughs. "I'm just like, alright!"
Now he can focus on other things, like getting schooled in Shakespeare as he did on the set of 'Orson.' The 'HSM' star says he went into the project with classically-trained actors thinking he could hold his own. "I studied it in school and of course I dabbled in it in theater. I thought I was coming to the table with a decent amount of knowledge. Perhaps someone would ask me a question or two," says Efron. "But I was quickly taught that was not the case and I had a lot to learn."
