Adam Lambert's crazy pants American Music Awards appearance all makes a little more sense to us after hearing his interview with the Morning Jolt's Larry Flick on Sirius radio, where Lambert admits he suffered from an ugly duckling complex because he used to be quite the fatty.
"I suffered from a little bit of an ugly duckling complex in my early twenties. When I was in high school I was 250 pounds and that creates some stuff...some body image stuff, some confidence issues and I got a lot of my confidence from the validation I got as a performer," Lambert said. "It's common for kids who were made fun of for their weight to act out in that way. When you are developing your identity during those important years your self image and physical appearance are who you are," explains psychologist Cooper Lawrence, author of "The Cult of Celebrity." "Until you develop a life, a resume and a sense of who you are inside and you are criticized for weight it can have a long lasting impact. The AMAs were the perfect 'look at me now' moment. He not only looks amazing but he is so comfortable with who he is and it shows."
It is all coming together. Lambert used to be a chubby and now that he is much more svelte and sexy he wants to flaunt it as best he can, even if flaunting it means smooching his male guitarist and simulating oral sex onstage. We just bought some new skinny jeans when we managed to shed those hard to lose pounds, but hey, to each his own.

I agree with you!! I also have always had a weight issue. At my largest I weighed 380 lbs & I lost 240lbs. I have kept it off for 9 yrs. He is so full of it to use this as an excuse. He should just admit he made a terrible mistake and stop thinking he can shock America and vault himself to stardom. I'll never watch him again. So Gross!!!

Sorry, but Adam never said his AMA performance was because he was fat. Watch the interview. His performing style has evolved with his self esteem, etc. but he did not use being fat as an excuse for his performance. I also thought the performance went too far, but frankly I am "not entertained" by Janet "wardrobe malfunction" Jackson grabbing men's crotches, Eminem singing about rape and Lady Gaga smashing whiskey bottles everywhere. Adam went too far. But I agree that he is getting much more flak for it because he is gay. Now I hope he concentrates on his music. But in any case, saying Adam used his weight as an excuse for the AMA's has only made people who have struggled with weight issues mad when reading this. But after the performance on the AMA's I lost total respect for him. What I got from that performance is being GAY is all about SEX. It is so sad. I am sure there are many people that feel the same way. As far as him saying that he isn't a babysitter...who does he think is buying his music, did he forget that kids were the ones voting for him on AI. When he came to SD and was greeted by fans at the AT&T store, a majority of the people there were young girls. He needs to quit making excuses and accept the fact that he made a real bad decision. I will not be purchasing his music and definately not watching any performance by him again.

When Adam was on American Idol I was rooting for him because he is a good performer, yes eccentric, but fun to watch and listen too. His being GAY had nothing to do with it.
