An old home video has surfaced of Marilyn Monroe, in which the legendary actress appears to be smoking marijuana.According to the Huffington Post, the video is 50 years old. The home movie shows another person pass what looks like a joint to the Monroe, who is giggling, and she smokes it. Watch

Who cares if it a joint or not? Maybe if she had done that more she would still be alive. Who knows. But why should ANYONE call her a whore? No one deserves that--maybe she did sleep her way to the top--maybe she didnt. Hell who knows for sure--and who should judge her if she did?

I disagree. I am 61. Marilyn died when I was 12. My folks were big fans of hers. I recall her life and her death. Folks just did NOT smoke joints back then. Not in the 50's and 60's. Pot appeared on the scene in 1970 during the Vietnam War. GI's got it in Vietnam, brought it back, then grew it, sold it, smoked it. It was not something that was done in the 50's when Marilyn was an actress. The woman died in 1960. Men and women did pass around cigs back then. Everyone smokes cigarettes and it was nothing to share a smoke with someone. If you would just get an older person to analyze your footage, someone in touch with history, you could get your facts straight. And Marilyn was in love with the camera. She wooed the camera...that is nothing new. The woman turned it on, center stage when the film started to roll.
I watched this video not to see if she was smoking cuz it doesn't really matter. I watched it cuz she is a gorgeous icon and she is missed. Give me a break this does not look like a joint but a regular cigarette. Please leave poor Marilyn alone.

People certainly did smoke marijuana in the 50's and 60's, even back in the 30's. Musicians, actors a lot of people in the entertainment industry did. The actor Robert Mitchum got busted for it in 1948. And he smoked it as far back as the 30's. Other people smoked it too. True it wasn't as popular or mainstream as it became in the 1960's and on up until today but people have smoked it for a long time! Don't you remember the hippy movement in the 1960's? the summer of love? Woodstock? Pot was everywhere! Yes, marijuana was smoked heavily by American soldiers in Vietnam, but it didn't originate from in 1970!! One of the places it came from was Mexico, hence the spanish sounding name! Oh and by the way, Marilyn Monroe actually died in 1962, not 1960. Maybe YOU should get YOUR facts straight.
That is a cigarette. I have smoked enoough weed to know that is a cigarette. The way she hits it and doesnt hold in the smoke, the way she is holding it, most joints are not the strong in structure to be held like that.

Pot has always been around the movie/stage scene. So what? 35 years ago I knew around 70 people who smoked pot. Every profession from A to Z.
The reason it's so.."bad." Their is no state or federal tax on pot.
Today about 10 of my friends smoke pot. No big deal.

Friend , you never heard of the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 which was the work of Harry J. Anslinger? This is the one that worked up the legislaters with his lies to create job security and for some sad personal agenda , while also pandering to Pharma, Alcohol and Tobacco interests.

It appears to be an ordinary tobacco cigarette to me but even if it were pot it really doesn't matter. She was an adult and could make her own choices. I really wanted to remark on just how beautiful that woman was. Even though she wasn't dolled up in that clip it's plain to see how extraordinary she was.
