Susan Boyle Destroys U.S. Chart Records

You've had a good week,
Susan Boyle. The
'Britain's Got Talent' star sold an astounding 701,000 copies of her debut album,
'I Dreamed a Dream,' in the U.S., giving her the best first week sales of 2009 and the best-selling debut album by any woman since SoundScan began tracking in 1991.
It's also the biggest debut album by any artist since Snoop Dogg's 'Doggystyle' in 1993.
Her record label, Columbia, said Wednesday that 'Dream' has moved a whopping 3 million copies around the world in its opening week.
Also amazing is the way people purchased the album. Although digital sales have grown for years -- with iTunes being the main beneficiary -- consumers headed back to the record store for Boyle's debut.
Columbia chairman Steve Barnett told the
New York Times that only about 39,000 of Ms. Boyle's total in the United States were sold through iTunes. Consumers could also purchase the album on shopping network QVC.
"The reason that this record really did what it did," Mr. Barnett told the Times, "was that people wanted to get it and own it, to feel like they're a part of it."
Before Boyle, the biggest seller of the year was Eminem's 'Relapse.'
It was not, however, a record-breaking week for a decidedly different reality star: Adam Lambert. The 'American Idol' runner-up opened at No. 3 with 198,000 copies sold.

I don't get it! I'm an old broad, who prefers Adam's album HANDS DOWN. His ballads are amazing. Adam's sales of just under 200,000 ain't bad folks. As he'd say himself, he's not for everyone.

Every time I hear Susan Boyle's singing voice, I get goose bumps and am thrilled. I've bought the CD and downloaded Wild Horses & I dreamed a Dream on my I-Pod. Boyle is a delightful and super talented artist. Love her! You go girl! Love and enjoy your dream and thanks for the joy you've given me with the music!

This "old" person knows how to download music, but I prefer to own the CD, thank you very much. I also have records (gasp!) and tapes that are treasures I will never give away.
CONGRATULATIONS, SUSAN! Thank you for bringing some actual talent back to the music industry.

I would be willing to accept Tiger's apology IF he had actually ever said he was wrong in what he did. So far, he hasn't, so I'm thinking the apology is probably an attempt to save his sponsor base and a reaction to getting caught. How sad that someone so gifted and blessed didn't have the character to handle the fame, fortune and talent.

wrong post shell and unless ur his wife he doesn't owe you an apology... that's kinda weird

Congrats to Susan, she has a gorgeous voice. Susan gave up her dream when she was young and spent her life taking care of her sick and elderly parents.
Now she has been rewarded. I'm sure her Parents are looking down on her, and are extremely proud.
It's never to late, to do things in your life that you've put on the back burner for others that were of importance in your life.
Never say Never !! Again, Susan CONGRATS!!!! you deserved the recognition, fame, and now live your Life, and enjoy it to the Hilt!!
we knew you could do it !!!

Tiger, owe's NO one an apology except his wife, and the neighbor, who's tree he hit and yard he damaged.
Why does the public believe we have a right to be involved in people's private business?
So what, he had a accident. His insurance will pay the damages. His injuries will heal.
Leave him and his family alone. How would you like it, if all your families skeletons, and private affairs were Public info?
WE HAVE NO RIGHT!! SHAME SHAME ON GOSSIPERS~~!!

I remember the night she walked out on stage. I also remember the tears I shed within seconds of hearing her voice. I've followed Ms. Boyle from day one, and I was also among the thousands of her admires, that bought 4 of her CD's as soon as they hit the stores.
We had a house full of people for Thanksgiving, and when I put on Ms. Boyle's CD, our 30 family members and guests were absolutely aw struck, listening in almost silence, to Ms. Boyle's angelic voice.
Bravo, and thank you Ms. Boyle.

I'm sure the vast majority of the people buying the CD do not own I-pods..

Being a fan of every type of music I heard of Susan Boyle, but never heard her sing. I finally went to YouTube and found her Britain's Got Talent audition. By the way things started with her interacting with the judges, everyone, audience and judges a like, thought she was going to be a total train wreck... but then she started singing. My God, what a voice. Lesson learned: Never judge a book by its cover.

Maybe the reason people wanted a CD and not just an electronic transfer is that Susan is loved as much for what she has achieved as she is for her astonishing voice. She's a history-making person, and I think people want a tangible piece of that history, a souvenir of this woman's extraordinary journey. She's an inspiring antithesis to the predictable plastic cookie cutter stars that the music business cranks out on a daily basis, and the fact that the greatest cookie cutter packager of them all, Simon Cowell, was involved in her success is also inspiring.

How wonderful for her. :)
