Billy Joel's Daughter Hospitalized for Alleged Overdose

Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of singer Billy Joel and model Christie Brinkley, was rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon in New York. According to one media outlet, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter suffered from a pill overdose.

TMZ reports that 911 was called to Alexa's Manhattan apartment on Saturday afternoon, and that she had trouble breathing. RadarOnline.com is reporting that Alexa had "taken pills," which led to the 911 call.

She was then taken to St. Vincent's hospital in Manhattan. "She is stable and her doctors are assessing her needs," a rep for the singer confirmed to PEOPLE.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Fire Department said Joel had taken eight pills, though the type of pill is not known.

According to a Radar source, Alexa had been having a rough time with her personal life lately, thanks in part to both of her parents' recent public divorces. Brinkley's nasty divorce from Peter Cook made headlines around the world due to his infidelity, and Joel's divorce from Katie Lee Joel this year also allegedly rattled Alexa. A report in PEOPLE suggests that Alexa's actions followed a breakup with her boyfriend.

Alexa, obviously influenced by her father's talents and success, has gone into the music business as well, releasing her first album, 'Sketches,' in 2006.

You can't pick your parents and you can't control their behavior. Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley will never win awards for emotional stability and their marrying-divorcing-marrying-divorcing lifestyles are obviously influencing their daughter. I hope and pray that Alexa gets some counseling and that her parents finally grow up.

Alexa, what a beautiful young woman you are...for whatever reason the press has picked up on your personal life and taken the opportunity to run with a story. You could have taken six Tylenol and it wouldn't have stopped them. Keep your head held high and keep your mom and dad close to you they love you. Believe me when I say you are a gift to them that can never be replaced. Lean on them if you can. If they are too fragile I'm sure you have great friends and find a great psychologist. They are great at helping without being a parent. My best wishes to you!

Just because she took 8 pills does not mean she tried to kill herself. Maybe she was having serious pain and didn't realize she had taken to many until she had problems breathing. I hope Alexa recovers soon. I'm a bit nervous about her being at St.
Vincent's hospital which I refer to as the hospital from hell. I had
two surgeries there and both times there was an accident during
surgery. My two days at the hospital after what was supposed to be
ambulatory surgery were horrendous. Billy and Christie get her out of there
ASAP!
