The Real Reason Miley Cyrus Has a Tattoo

The world seemed up in arms after photographers snapped Miley Cyrus in a hot pink bikini that prominently displayed her new tattoo that reads 'Just Breathe.' Well, according to Perez Hilton, the 17-year-old's ink actually honors the memory of one of her close friends that passed away due to Cystic Fibrosis over three years ago. Apparently 'Just Breathe' is the slogan for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Last week, we asked our readers to vote on whether Cyrus should have a tattoo at 17. Over 56 percent of 84,700+ voters said she was too young, and it bothered them.

Cyrus' step into the spotlight has led to much criticism, and she's had enough. During an interview with the AP in September, Cyrus admitted that she's made her fair share of missteps but wishes the public would have a little more respect for her privacy.

"I think everything I do is exaggerated a lot," she said. "I think that no matter what, I think it is all about respect. People forget that when you are in the public eye, people forget you still have to respect people and you still have to (respect) their privacy."

Are you a doctor or a piercer? I doubt you are qualified to state that piercings are unreasonably unsafe when they are done properly and cared for.

I had a lot of piercings when I was younger. When I got sick of them, I took them out. I never had any health problems from piercings. My regular ear piercings got infected much more frequently than any body piercing I ever had.

I don't see her covered. But I sort of like the way you've expressed your opinion. We all have an opinion. Even though I don't agree with you, I do respect your opinion. I'm just happy you're not really judging her character. You're just giving an opinion on how you feel about tatoos (for people under 18.)

Why does it matter what Miley does with her body! its her tattoo and her choice she can do what she wants. We are no better than her. We don't need to judge her! and as for the meaning of her tattoo right on girlie!

She is barely 17. Way too young to have a tattoo. I have nothing against tattoo's but she is too young. Her folks must have signed for it--thereby approving it. That is wrong! And, the place she put it is wrong. I agree with a lot of what has previously been posted. Her father is pimping her out and she is getting wrong advice. She is headed down the Britney path for sure!

Why get up in arms over a tattoo? She's 17. Most 17-year-olds are involved in worse shenanigans than getting ink.

I have three tattoos - each is symbolic to me. I am not "white trash" or "trashy" and there are many, many young men and women who get tattoos at the age of 16. Frankly, I would rather see someone who is that age get a tattoo that means something to them then just to get one. And keep in mind - that the girl put it in a place that was close to her heart - but not one where she would have to expose her breast to have it put on. I think Myley has done a very good job of being a postive roll model -- just because there are people out there who want to make her older that she is - that's there problem - I think more of her for acting her age and trying to learn from her mistakes just like every other 16 year old. If you want your child to look up to someone though -- try you, as their parent, or GOD, not a celebrity -- celebrities fall too easily. They are people after all, not gods.

You may know about tatoo's but you don't know squat about kids. The media makes or breaks clelbrities and therefore guides who the roll models of the young will be. Try keeping a 12 year old girl from wanting to be with her friends , listen to "their music or see movies approved by "society" for children their age. A tatoo on an underage teen idol isn't you getting 3 tatoo's because they mean something to you. As an adolescent make a decision to permanently mark your body? You don't know much about rearring children if you think making permanent decisions as a child is a good idea.

Here's a thought: DON'T STAND IN JUDGMENT OF OTHERS UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO BE JUDGED!! And after reading all of these there are alot of people out there that simply need to deal and get over it!! Clearly some didn't get much education past the third grade and should be spending more time making sure the children they are raising are passing spelling and NOT looking at them to be a positive role-model in EDUCATION OR INTELIGENCE!!

It's not so much that she got a tatoo, most teens are getting them, it's who she is. She is supposed to be a role model for young children and early teens and she needs to understand that. She's made a lot of mistakes and she hasn't taken the time to learn from them. She chose her career and she chose her direction. She needs to take it into account when she makes decisions and chooses her actions.

Yes, she did make her own choices about being in the "Lime Light." I do want to say though, she has a right to her "Private Time" just like anyone else. I feel bad for these celebrities always being followed around and NEVER left alone!!!! Like someone posted earlier we have more important things to worry about in this world!!!! I personally don't have any tats but I know a lot of people who do. Each and every one of the tats stand for something personal in their lives. I want to know why it is ok for a child who is 15yr and a nobody to have one and because she is Miley it's not ok? Role model or not she was on her "OWN TIME" in the bikini not entertaining your children!!! I just wish the paparazzi would leave them alone if they are on their "OWN TIME" and not harming anyone!!! I personally think she did nothing wrong!!! Go Miley!!!
